OWS Updates for the week of Oct. 24th - Nov. 10

Cardboard signs at Occupy Goldman Sachs

Over the past week a new occupation has begun at a particularly special place: the sidewalk by Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein’s house.

Occupy Goldman Sachs grew organically after a Global Noise march ended at Blankfein’s stoop at 15 Central Park West. And what a natural location to occupy, considering how Goldman Sachs engaged in some of the worst financial fraud the world has ever seen in the lead up to the 2008 financial crisis.

But despite such blatant lawlessness not a single official of Goldman Sachs has been prosecuted. Rather the corporation was rewarded, receiving more taxpayer funded bailouts than any other investment bank.

Indeed this is a reminder that, as we close in to the 2012 elections, All Roads Lead to Wall Street. Heads they win, tails we lose; whoever wins the presidency there will be a victory party at Goldman Sachs.

Fortunately, through supporting efforts like #OccupyGoldmanSachs, we just might make them have to deal with the 99% in the process.

Monday, November 5th, 7pm
Election Victory Celebration at Goldman Sachs

Tuesday, November 6th, 9pm
Occupy Times Square
Times Square

Due to the influence of money in politics, no matter which candidates are victorious on November 6th, Wall Street still wins. Likewise we can all agree: voting by itself will not bring about the changes we need. As soon as the polls close, let's gather in Times Square and show people what REAL democracy looks like - holding a People's Assembly and creating a place where anyone can speak, not just those who raise money to run for office.

Wednesday, November 7th, 5pm
March of the Unemployed
Union Square

One in every seven New York workers is unemployed, underemployed or has given up looking for work. You are not alone and you can join us to show the city, the mayor, the President, that an unemployment crisis is happening.

10/27/2010 ~ It is good to see a major geographical focus of #OWS Movement there in the Local Area in New York, since #OWS did become popular out of New York and all roads do now lead to Wall Street.

The Occupy Wall Street Movement is here to stay, at least on the social-political landscape here in the USA where I am. It has naturally evolved and developed in different forms and manifestations, despite a few major flaws.

I wish #OWS promoted the validity of direct participation in electoral politics, including engaging in Voter Registration and Education. The idea behind this is to have a way of meeting regular people who are not actual activists. Plus, #OWS could of used the Elections of 2012 as a way of mobilizing people and ran a Candidate from #OWS, though it is not a political party. Maybe it should of evolved into one. #OWS definitely woke up the progressive movement in the USA out of its usual coma, though now it seems many have fallen back into sleep.

I also wish #OWS would of had an actual List of Demands, elucidated a vision in terms of what kind of political economy we should have in the world (democratic socialism, consensus communalism etc.) and understood the essentiality of Vanguard Leadership.

We need to continue to work on building up a Global Liberation Movement in three realms of existence:

1, Working on our own Inner Liberation.

  1. Working on the Local Level with others. and
  2. Working on Global Networking.

Even though I am in India, your comment interested me greatly. It is full of substance. I copied your comment in my computer for visiting in detail.

After all such chaos, I feel amazed to see what 1% GREED can do to mankind. The worldwide hell has the singular origin--GREED. On the plus side, the 99% is interested to break down the GREEDY empire.

I noticed the sidewalk poster that reads, "We just want you to be happy." The average people do not want personal jets, Rolls Royce, palace, king's banquet but happiness. Simple wants that the GREEDY people made impossible. I wish the OWS success--never-ending success that is. We must wipe of the black spots from earth. The Christmas time is in the air--it reverberates the same voice--Happy Lives, man's birthright, as spoken from high above.
