#NoNosVamos: The Indignad@s Return Across Spain

Posted 11 years ago on May 13, 2012, 7:02 a.m. EST by OccupyWallSt

Yesterday, hundreds of thousands of people in Spain took the streets and camped in public squares in defiance of a curfew on protesters. The government swept in late at night as riot police evicted the peaceful protesters. Across the world, people in over 50 countries demonstrated in solidarity. (See here for more on what happened.) Now, the indignad@s in Spain are returning to the plazas for assemblies, discussions, and festivities. Follow live: #AlasPlazas13M, @takethesquare, @acampadabcn_int, or @democraciareal.

Outside Spain, indignad@s and Occupiers are also still holding encampments in London, Rome, Frankfurt, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and many other cities. Get ready to JOIN US on Tuesday May 15th for the next Global Day of Action. In New York, we will be gathering at Times Square at 6pm for a mass assembly. See here for more.

Join Occupy Wall St & a broad affiliation of local Economic & Social Justice Organizations as we answer the call sent out from the Indignados for a Global Spring. This will be a Mass Rally in Solidarity with the Global Movement Against Austerity & for Economic Justice World Wide.

This action will focus on the Banks and their role in the Global Economic Crisis.

This will be the culmination of a week of action encompassing many issues facing people in the world, from Health Care, Environment, Food Justice, Education, War, Police Brutality, Immigration Rights, Mass Incarceration, Debt, Jobs & Housing, it's time to stand up and show our solidarity with people across the Globe, the country and our own City.

Come to Bryant Park at 4pm where we will be leading Financial Crimes Walking Tours, where groups of people will be brought to some of the worst offenders doorsteps for teach-ins about their misdeeds & how they have contributed to the current global crisis.

We will then converge at 6pm at Times Square, the capital of capitalism and consumerism for a sit down strike & People's Assembly.

Here is some of the ignorance and bigotry going on in Australia at present. This post starts with a comment from me and develops as can be seen.Bighead1883 : 14 May 2012 11:46:15am This so-called neoliberalism pushed free markets and the dismantling of the 'welfare state', privatisation of public assets, deregulation, user pays, lower direct taxation and higher indirect taxation. And therein lies the problem,Merrelyn. We somehow worshipped the Fortune Fivehundred dreaming it could be us without realising the destruction to society and the planet caused by the greed is good mentality. Now it`s up to the worlds Occupy Movements to scale back the injustices, promote sustain ability and most importantly buy back the essential services and infrastructure sold out from under the people of the world to the ever greedy corporations.Western Democracies are run by the investment banks and corporations,unelected.http://alecexposed.org/wiki/ALEC_Exp

reaver : 14 May 2012 1:08:54pm It's up to the world's Occupy Movements? If the solution to the problem (any problem) is to sit around in parks whining about how hard it is to be white and middle class we truly are doomed.

Gravitas Dignitas : 14 May 2012 3:21:35pm Check out the OWS site and get educated reaver. You don`t know what you are talking about.

Shebs : 14 May 2012 4:25:06pm I cannot speak to whether Reaver has become educated/indoctrinated as regards OWS, but I have, and his points stand uncontested.

Occupy did not work several months back and won't do more than irritate people now. I am not a banker/wealthy/connected, worshipping the F-500 and don't believe nor practice the view than greed is good, and nor do my Conservative friends. I do not work for a corporation, have not practised unjust behaviours such as discrimination, misogyny/misandry, racism, profiteering, Barrantry, sheep-rustling or cattle-tipping! Sacrificing virgins is a waste of good potential, and burning witches is also disallowed unless I have Carbon Offsets.

OWS is not a solution, and fails to properly express problems.

Gravitas Dignitas : 14 May 2012 6:08:26pm Well Shebs just have a look at what`s happening in the PIIGS with the demonstrations against the Kleptocrats and the protests in America against BOM etc.The Occupy will grow and grow.!!! reaver : 14 May 2012 5:03:16pm I have been to OSW's website as well as the websites of the other various Occupys and have also been to check out Occupy Melbourne back when there were more than half a dozen people there and when they didn't try things like wearing tiny tents in a sad attempt to get some attention. The Occupy movement around the world is nothing more than a combination of the kind of second hand communism lite that has died a well deserved death outside of universities, rehashed 60s student activism and hypocritical anti-capitalism (There's something about a bunch of people protesting capitalism by sitting around tweeting on their new Idevices while wearing the latest Nikes that I find both pathetic and ironic. I should be astonished with the way that these people are so lacking in self awareness, but I'm honestly not.) watered down by an over arching sense welfare entitlement. Occupy will never be a serious political force in Australia for the same reason that they failed to get any public support. They bring nothing new to the table and the public want nothing to do with what they do bring. The public don't want to live in a socialist "paradise" in which they have most of what they earn taken away from them to pay for the social policies that Occupy demands and they most certainly have no intention of paying for every need, want and whim of the Occupy "protesters". The rapes, assaults, thefts, violent "protests" and all of the other crimes at Occupy sites will not get the support of the public anymore than the repeated claim by Occupy spokespeople that these crimes are not done by Occupyers, but are organised by the government to discredit the Occupy movement will. By the time that Australia gets to the point that Europe is in (Continent wide economic trouble with France voting in Socialists and Greece electing the first Nazi representatives into a national Parliament since WW2) and the extremes of politics begins to look attractive Occupy will have splintered, disappeared and been replaced by some other political action group. "Now this is the mindset of the ignorant who do not see the forest for the trees.Cheers Bighead1883".

In conjunction with these temporary protests we need to develop local Power Based of Operations ~ Community Infrastructure ~ Places where people can connect up in between rallies, marches and demonstrations. ~ @Peta_de_Aztlan
