" Banks stand to lose millions of dollars in debt repayments if the biggest municipal bankruptcy in American history is allowed to proceed.

But the real victims of the financial collapse in the US state of Alabama's most populous county are its poorest residents - forced to bathe in bottled water and use portable toilets after being cut off from the mains supply."

The simple truth is that there is nothing these corporations won't stop at to enrich themselves and empoverish everyone else. They call that "outsourcing."

So sad, as US is becoming a third world country. People with nothing to lose will push back. The rich have a "tiger by the tail" and just do not see it.

yes as Gerald Celente says " when people have lost everything and have nothing else to lose....they lose it "

Hi Scout, Wondering what it will be like. May be a time when every Escalade will be rolled over and burned. Exclusive neighborhoods targeted. "Reign of Terror" again? And on the subject of water, there was an article about corporations buying up water rights worldwide (will search for article). Best Regards, Nevada

Amazing that news shows up in the UK and not here. If anyone is interested in wall streets scummy bond deals a good book is F.I.A.S.C.O The Inside Story of a Wall Street Trader by Frank Partnoy (Author) It was a real eye opener for me.

"The facility, which has been under construction since 1996, was meant to cost about $300m. But the bill soared to $3.1bn after construction problems and a series of bond and derivatives deals that went sour in the financial meltdown of 2008. Investment bank JP Morgan Securities and two of its former directors have been fined for offering bribes to Jefferson County workers and politicians to win business financing the sewer upgrade."

They should have already BURNED TOWN HALL to the ground and re(claimed) their water works department property of the residents, posted no Trespass signs and empowered the local LEO's to shoot bankers on site. -- AND this shite had to be reported by the freaking BBC !!

This is disgusting. Every elected official in the US should be wary of the positions they currently hold. They will be ousted.

Wow. Can you imagine renting a port a potty as the man in the article does? That community will see mass rioting soon as Ms. Tyson says.

PS If you have 'portable income' such as a pension, Social Security, SSDI if you are willing to be flexible you can find housing with utilities included scattered throughout the USA. When we began looking simply keying in rent $400 utilities included we saw available rentals in NV,TX,OK,ID,MO,OR,UT and Nebraska (since Reno,NV was closest we chose it, saved our perfect 10 yr. + rental history and escaped rising costs.)
