With winter setting in and the powers-that-be reaching the limits of their tolerance, OWS needs a new strategy. I believe I know how OWS can ride the momentum of its physical occupations to expand its power and scope of influence. What's needed is a way for the average 99 percenter to feel he/she is a supportive participant without having to pitch a tent in a city park. I'm imagining a website where anyone can pledge to join the revolt against capitalist mercenaries by changing their practices in buying stuff. Such as 1) boycott advertisers, 2) favor local businesses over international chains, 3) boycott stores whose prices all end in .99, 4) close bank accounts, switch to credit unions, 5) promise to vote for candidates with no lobbyist connections, etc. There are lots of other things that could be done by a majority of participants in our toxic economy which would put the scoundrels on notice, and millions actively pledging to do so would be even stronger than a few thousands risking arrest.
