What are they so worried about? That all the grandmas and grandpas are gonna rise up to protect their social security and medicare? Hmmm. Maybe they should worry.

When I was a younger man - Miami used to have a national - police recruiting program. Due to the drug traffic pipeline through Florida they were recruiting with incentives of a free house - but you had to agree to boot-camp training for urban warfare.

Here's some info on housing in Florida:

Percent of homes underwater: 44.2 percent

Median home value drop from peak: 44.8 percent (fourth-biggest decline)

Homes in foreclosure or 90-plus days delinquent: 17.4 percent (the largest percentage)

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Sounds fairly similar to much of the country. One difference many of the homes are retirement homes paid for by retirement benefits. So wtf?

[-] 3 points by beautifulworld (23769) 11 years ago

Florida was one of the hardest hit states in terms of the housing crisis. The drop in value is the biggest problem.

Truly it is not - the real estate market has been artificially inflated for decades. The thing that is wrong is the people who bought at the inflated no reflection to reality priced property. This is where debt forgiveness needs to happen - drop off the false value and renegotiate on actual value.

From AZ I can say that retirees bring in money but still are only a percentage of the money, our economy has been selling the "you can be rich too" schemes instead of products to people, because the markup is better, try to find a job with a vested retirement today, good luck, we are moving toward a crisis if poor people don't start dying younger.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

The CorpoRATs are working on that - only it will be everyone dying.

Old people can be greedy too. Age didn't stop them from wanting to "get in". Many too borrowed just to go and spend it. All those years and still lack basic sense about debt. Maybe they know now, but I doubt it.

I can say that when I transfered schools from Rust Belt Rochester,NY to Tampa, FL I was SHOCKED at how much people were paying for shitty little 1000sqft ranches. Like 250k!!!

I asked them if they were insane, but no one seemed to think it could possibly be a bubble.

Im still shocked that more people didnt see this coming.

[-] 1 points by beautifulworld (23769) 11 years ago

People were made to believe that home ownership was the American dream, when in reality the American dream is really a sustainable lifestyle where jobs pay enough for people to live decently.

Not just that .,but They want our Taxes

[-] 3 points by beautifulworld (23769) 11 years ago

They want your taxes and to give you nothing in return.

[-] 2 points by zoom6000 (430) from St Petersburg, FL 11 years ago

The new American mafia

[-] 2 points by beautifulworld (23769) 11 years ago

LOL!

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Nothing new there - not really. What has changed is morals - ethics - consideration of others.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Florida homeowners have been hit hard by the 1% economic crash. Maybe thats why they have excessive police state surveillance for the convention. it's expected but still depressing. How are you DK?

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Recovering from a deep depression/fibromyalgia flare-up. Sorry to see you have been taking so much heat in trying to support reality. I am just stopping by. I have a ways to go to get back on my feet - sorry.

[-] 3 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

good luck. feel better. Miss you. And my headaches pale in comparison. Stay strong. You're one of the people who still respond to me in a civil way.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

That is OK - many people do not like my contributions either. Stick with the facts - you are doing OK and that is also why you get attacked.

Take strength from the fact that the shills find you necessary to attack.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

thanks.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Please - one thing only - and I hope it is OK for me to say this.

Take a moment or two before ripping someone a new asshole - people can be for the fight against greed corruption and crime - and not see everything in the same light. This world is not black and white and peoples perspectives will be all shades of gray.

There are real shills/trolls/attackers and then there are the rest that have not gotten to the same page yet.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

You're right. I am guilty of goin too far sometimes. And sometimes my tone is lost in text. I also tend to be unforgiving and unreasonable with disagreements. I even sometimes misinterpret. I am flawed and I know it. Sometimes I am responding to several people at once who I've judged a certain way. I can apply judgements to the wrong commenter, My anger might be towards one commenter by misdirected at another. Certainly I'm not making excuses, just lookin for reasons perhaps. But I will continue workin on my delivery. Thanks

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Been there - Done That - no one is perfect - but we can strive to be better.

I see that effort in you and your contributions. Keep-on Keeping-on.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Thanks BW - I should probably spend some time meditating. I will likely not be contributing much for awhile - keep an eye on things. {:-])

[-] 2 points by beautifulworld (23769) 11 years ago

Meditating is good.Take care of yourself. Perhaps the forum can take your mind off things from time to time.

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

The DNC in Charlotte is just in 100 Days. The city is having a 'Free Speech Lottery' with winners being allowed to speak in designated areas, only 60 per day, far away from the convention area.... thats the starters.
