wow - that little blue strip is gonna be on hell of a hard target to hit . . .

better bolt in - I think it'll be a bumpy ride . . . .

[-] 3 points by shooz (18066) 3 months ago

We hit 80 yesterday and today we have 60mph winds.

I know you don't like to, but the 1 hr video is well worth watching.

It's the first installment of a 9 hour series on showtime.

And it's informative and well produced. It hangs human faces onto global warming, from Texas to Indonesia, so far..

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

for some reason it just isn't in me to sit for one hour watching a movie on the computer. It's the lack of interaction. My desk doesn't permit the required posture for television viewing.

and while the cable company can almost certainly access my tv , my tv cannot access the internet . . .

And I think those winds overhead now are the same ones you saw yesterday. We're supposed to hit 76 I think I saw . . .

[-] 3 points by shooz (18066) 3 months ago

One thing I learned in the first one, is that deforestation has surpassed fossil fuel as the main contributor.

The reason? Palm oil production.

[-] 4 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

I sell firewood - not in any large quantity, I sold just under 40 cords since September and now I'm out of wood. My activity doesn't really have any impact on the overall fact of tree harvesting in Vermont - not on if it is done, not on how, nor on whether or not is is done in a sustainable manner.

I've asked around in the past, from the University and others, about the math behind it and how to do it in a way that might increase net storage of carbon and on how to produce legislation that pushes the forestry industry into the kinds of practices that would produce such an increase . . .

All with the idea of making Vermont a model for forestry practices the world over - unless of course somewhere like Norway or Sweden is already engaged in best practices as a basic industry standard . . .

I probably didn't communicate the idea very well, or not to the right people, or not often enough. Nothing happened.

[-] 3 points by shooz (18066) 3 months ago

The cutting and burning in Indonesia is done on a massive scale and making matters worse is the meter or so of peat that those forests have been growing on for decades. When they burn the cut trees the peat burns too and releases massive amounts of carbon, that has been stored for a long period.

Keep in mind too, that the palm oil trees only produce for 25 years and then they cut and burn them all over again, perpetuating the burning of the peat underneath them.

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

I figured that both scale and method were quite a bit different from what happens in Vt. I've heard about some of the Rain Forest burning in S.America for farm land and that is totally different too.

looks like an interesting movie. I don't get showtime - can't wait till it comes out on dvd.

The bonus footage was interesting - Harrison Ford turns to an 8th grade teacher to help understand the basics of Global Warming.

It's kinda shameful when you consider:

  • Global Warming is so simple an 8th grader can understand it

  • yet so politically complicated No Repelican can admit the fact of it.

can ya hear me, ya repelican shills?

[-] 2 points by shooz (18066) 3 months ago

they are far too busy inciting you and bitching about Obama to notice.

I don't watch much TV, but I'll be seeing all of these.

[-] 2 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

I'm sure . . .

seems funny - looks like they've changed their schedule. I wonder what's up with that?

[-] 2 points by shooz (18066) 3 months ago

One thing I've noticed about their behavior, is that every time something like the recent SCOTUS "decision" is made, they drive it down, by not commenting and incessantly, obsessing on Obama, or something else a Democrat did, even if it was decades ago.

You will never hear them seriously critique libe(R)tarianism, or (R)epelican'ts.

EVER

[-] 2 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

Leoyo outed himself the other day with his post on Lamar Alexander.

Repelican Senators are good, democratic Presidents are bad.

oh emm gee

[-] 2 points by shooz (18066) 3 months ago

Are you sure it's the same Lamar?

I can't picture one of those rich fucks living in something the size of a mobile home.

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

and thanks for the heads up.

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

so now of course, I'm wondering if this other lamar actually exists at all, or if in fact he is nothing but an ad agency stand up

say . . . that's not the same guy is it?

hehehee

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

o wow. That's cute. Leoyo left me a pair of links to compare pics - they definitely are not the same person.

The name is strange enough I just assumed there was little chance they were not the same person. I thought sure I had the fukers.

As far as rich and famous repelicans go, I figured the bastards lie so often, it would be nothing to rake in the cash in an ad campaign profiling the preppers lifestyle. I'm sure the physical labor - to include writing the book itself - could easily be delegated to others . . . I never did figure Lamar the Senator actually spent a day in his cabin . . . well . . . maybe a day but not likely an over night . . . .

[-] 3 points by shooz (18066) 3 months ago

this is why they try and get you wound up. Hoping you'll make a mistake.

It's OK though, I do get what they are doing.

Don't worry, most of those people don't live in those tiny houses all that long. An illness, some kids, or any number of other life challenges, changes their thinking.

Oh, and don't mention it when hchc makes one of his MANY knee jerk mistakes.

He hates that sort of thing.

[-] 2 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

I'm actually tempted to put up a post on it, have a great laugh, refuse to apologize for the error, and then tie in that nasty repelican tendency to steal cultural iconography and even copy righted material for campaign advertizing purposes . . ..

As long as pictures of the two are not introduced, one is apt to make the same mistake I did, and such a mistake would play well among repelican grass roots conservatives and preppers, with little possibility of negative backlash upon discovery of the simple error - and possibly even assist in getting him past his status as a rino among elephants . . .

[-] 2 points by shooz (18066) 3 months ago

You can try, but their "support team" usually comes around at least once a day.

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

so? they just try to bury it among the other posts with their libertarian shillery. So what.

I can always type fuk you hit save and then delete / yes.

and smile.

I'm just not certain it's worth the effort. It's beautiful outside - tho a bit windy.

[-] 3 points by shooz (18066) 3 months ago

go enjoy it.....;)

I have to go make my annual trek to the USPS to pay my tax bill.

Unlike that fuck in Nevada. I hope they find another way to nail that asshole, and all those boneheads that supported him.

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

Nevada . . . hmm . . . I think I'll google Nevada bonehead just to see . . . nope that's paintball - hmmm*

hmm sounds about right but nope . . .

ahh

Is that the one? Last two paragraphs sum it up.

[-] 3 points by shooz (18066) 3 months ago

As they did with Capone, there are other ways.

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2014/04/14/3426222/militia-rancher-behind-bars/

None of them should be roaming free.

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 3 months ago

Number 3 is interesting. And I have the perfect method of application. It's the same thing I rail against whenever I think I see it raise it's ugly head.

It requires the sacrifice of a very small number of agents - as with Waco - followed by an appropriate level of propagandizing of the orphaned childrens' suffering, culminating in a swift and violent, bloody day of reckoning . . .

You see? The problem with Waco lay entirely with the stage management of the entire two months between the opening and the closing of the whole affair.

You have no grace. You're switch and bait routine is ubiquitous.

That PM [which I have told you before is not wanted or appreciated and that I'd copy to the forum] would be yet another example of your abrasive, bumptious, cantankerous & dorkish .. gracelessness snooz !!!

Having a foot-stampy temper tantrum that I don't in the main - respond on your threads is actually most unbecoming !! I mean .. look at this very thread for evidence of why I may possibly not wish to do that !

However, here are the salient links (imo) from the interesting New York Times link that you provided :

''A new scientific report * on global warming released this week, the National Climate Assessment, named Miami as one of the cities most vulnerable to severe damage as a result of rising sea levels. Alton Road, a commercial thoroughfare in the heart of stylish South Beach, is getting early ripples of sea level rise caused by global warming — even as Florida’s politicians, including two possible contenders for the presidency in 2016, are starkly at odds over what to do about it and whether the problem is even real.''

I'm still staying my hand re. expanding on your ''baiting and switching'' :

but trust me snooz, I could be successfully provoked into an extended treatise on the matter here on your thread as opposed to ^there^ on frf's.

shadz you and those like you are the reason no one hears about OWS anymore, except here on the forum....that's a real damn shame, we could have changed the world if we would just keep to a simpler message the rich are too damn rich; the GOP makes them richer; throw the GOP from power and fix this thing, simple works, your shit destories

It's self-defeating and revelatory to ban comments we don't like when we wake hungover and so again :

here take look down my posts about wealth inequality and the oncoming Monarchy and tell me where you see this "moderation" you speak of? It is you who focus on attacking the Ds with all your posts where have you ever discussed the core issue of wealth inequality?

I wasn't actually throwing my ''shit against'' yours but simply defending myself against your misplaced & misguided accusations but we can let readers (who outnumber us posters) decide for themselves right ?

You at least can make forum-posts still whereas my last post re. Bill Moyers and Paul Krugman talking about Thomas Piketty's new book (''Capital In The 21st Century'') - was capriciously banned and indeed my first reply to you above was removed too. Does that sound reasonable to you ? Is that fair ? Sheesh.

and here is one to yours

https://occupywallst.org/forum/search/?q=user%3Ashadz66

now just where do you see me being moderate? which post? or should i start where you slam the dems which is pretty much what you do isn't it?

of course you write so little of your work who knows what you think....

[-] 4 points by shadz66 (17620) 2 months ago

So just how much attention do you really want factsy ?!!! You shill for Dems on an OWS Forum !! You eulogise about that Neoliberal, Neocon, 1%er and Wall $treet Darling .... Hitlary Clinton ... ergo .. not only are you a ''moderate'' but I'll call you a 'conservative' too - if you like !

If you want to read some 'writing' - then read this reply to you earlier after yet another 'attention seeking validation squeal' from you recently on your old thread :

temet nosce ...

[-] -2 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

lol !! I'm not 'the enemy'

right right . . . so explain this to me . . .

  • you claim to be British and yet take an exceptional interest in American Politics

  • and despite that keen interest seem to profess complete ignorance regarding the views of one Patrick Puchanan who stands in staunch opposition to democracy in Chile - and therefore use his words in their entirety for three forum posts over the course of a year or so . . .

  • and you never seem to put up a forum post of your very own

  • You've heard of Chomsky's virtual parliament and while you laud Chomsky you refuse to consider what a virtual parliament might mean or what effects it might have on legislation or on Justice within a democratic nation and instead you depend entirely on the fallacy that

which can be conclusively shown not to be true.

I don't believe you. I do not trust you. And I do not like you in the least.

[-] 0 points by shadz66 (17620) 2 months ago

Yawwwn ! You deserve NO explanations whatsoever, lol !! Get over yourself and get yourself out of 'The Hitlary Fan Club / DNC Defence Team', for the good of both your country and your own mental health !!!

Seldom - you arse, was a truer or more insightful word said by you on this forum than the first line here :

It is extremely sad that you regard the choice of 2 Corporate Controlled Parties - ''a democratic nation'' !!

You're the ''fucking idiot'' who can't see the revealing irony of having voted Republican but now engaging in SHillary for that 1%er Hitlary ... on a pro-99% OWS forum, to boot ffs !!

Just WTF do you think OWS is really all about - more of the fkn same ?!!!

This is the kind of language that u understand & here, get a clue will ya ?

now I forget - which of these points did you refute again?

  • you claim to be British and yet take an exceptional interest in American Politics

  • both parties are the same

which can be conclusively shown not to be true.

.

Oh, right - not one

you lyin snake

[-] 3 points by shadz66 (17620) 2 months ago

You're a bore, a boor and a boar !!! However, I have a little time to waste / use today, on this last day of the English football season !! Btw ''lyin snake'' is most ungentlemanly I think, lol !

Though more of a reactionary, conservative & nationalist - you also seem to fancy yourself as inquisitor in chief here on this forum, in your sad quest to deny and leave behind your Republican voting past and your refusal to see the near equivalence of both your current electoral options ... as you now try to push the crazy 'Hitlary Clinton square peg' into the 'OWS round hole' !!

Both your parties may not be exactly ''the same'', as few things in life (even twins) are BUT you seem intentionally blind to their huge similarities - not to mention the issue of who pays them, has co-opted them and seeks to influence and control them !!!

Consider - all the fingers of your hand are different - yet essentially more similar than they are different. Further, they are all attached to the same hand and arm and are mobilised by the same muscles, the same nerves and the same mind.

Now re. your check-list :

a) Brit .. check ! Interested in ''American Politics'' .. check !!

b) I have exhaustively explained the Buchanan matter here :

as you would know - IF you were honest but you continue to try to use this to justify your parDisan paranoia about libertarians and conservatives - despite the fact that both these groups are currently represented in The US 99%. I can use PB's Anti-War and Empire and even pro-99% words, without subscribing to the entire gamut of his views - past or present. Your inability to compute this is silly.

You can continue to get your knickers all in a twist on this matter if you wish. Your life. Your choice.

c) Never say never and tho' the majority of my recent forum-posts (in the last 50 especially) have indeed been 99% relevant articles by writers I like and respect & copied here to try to inform and inspire, I don't set undue store by just my own opinion on matters but I have also composed my own forum-posts, eg. :

Furthermore, my very latest forum-post was capriciously and vindictively banned for no reason, imo :

d) I respect Chomsky on many matters but ''laud'' is your word here because you, yourself do that I suspect. Therefore, I'll simply restrict myself to the following :

e) As above & see : http://www.thepeopleshistory.net/2013/06/an-analysis-of-one-party-state-at-top.html

~

One really has to wonder just how you feel advocating voting for that 1%er, Hitlary (who will be your next POTUS btw) is compatible with core OWS views, objectives and analyses. From the forum front page :

  • ''Occupy Wall Street is a leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximize the safety of all participants. The only solution is ... WorldRevolution.''

The U$A impacts us All on this Good Earth - our fragile, beautiful and only home. It is the cutting edge and coal face of 'Neoliberal Austerity for The 99%, Largesse for The 1% Economics' & Neocon Empire.

My country is increasingly resembling yours. The Global 99% now need to inform, inspire, mobilise and organise ourselves and our resistance .. in USUK and worldwide. That is the only reason why I am here.

Also fyi : http://truth-out.org/opinion/item/23423-the-working-class-mini-revolts-of-the-twenty-first-century

Call me an eccentric, idealist, optimist, utopian or even 'naive' but as for ''lyin snake'' - well, fuck you ! ;-)
