Forum Post: Why would we need Social Security if we brought down the system?

SS is part of the system so if you bring everything down then you would not need SS. You do want to bring everything down, or do you? Who is deciding what does or does not come down? Who is in charge of that if it happens? Please dont says SS would not go away because if the system is destroyed, it would have to go too.

The question is not whether OWS will bring the system down, it is whether or not politicians will reform and correct the system before it collapses under the ever increasing weight of greed and corruption.

The $700 billion TARP was really $16 trillion. Two days ago S&P downgraded the 6 biggest US banks, and yesterday the Fed executed yet another global bailout in a desperate attempt to prop up the rapidly collapsing house of cards, and of course BoA.

Its still pretty messed up that they would steal senior's hard earned money.

[-] 4 points by FrogWithWings (1367) 12 years ago

That money has long since been gone. Anyone is a fool that pays in to something as horrifically mismanaged and blatantly stolen before it even arrives.

[-] 1 points by classicliberal (312) 12 years ago

Once they have received everything they paid into the system plus marginal interest, it is not theirs.

I would prefer to keep 15% of my pay instead of letting the gov molest it for an entire career.

[-] 0 points by DunkiDonut2 (-108) 12 years ago

You are correct. I can rob my own locked box.

[-] 1 points by ProAntiState (43) 12 years ago

without the government poor people will be taken care of by the people who support government programs.

[-] 0 points by SGSling (104) 12 years ago

The people who support government programs tend to be the poor themselves. So poor people will be supporting each other?

[-] 1 points by Spankysmojo (849) 12 years ago

First bring everything down. Then we'll talk SS. Old folks don't like you already.

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

you flagrant repelican - intent on destruction of even that which is in service to the people and a proper function of government.

the repelican party is done

done I say

Because they have lied

and they have lied

and they have lied

about so much

to so many

to the benefit

of so few

Global warming is here

right outside the door

of every American Window

and so I say

the day of the REPELICAN PARTY is done.

[-] 1 points by SGSling (104) 12 years ago

I agree. We need to elect Harrison Ford to help us deal with the Replicant threat!

[-] 1 points by DunkinDonut (11) 12 years ago

What the hell is a Re-Pelican? and why is the pelican done?

[-] 1 points by bettydonnelly (115) 12 years ago

Why do you want to Dis Pelicans by comparing them to Republicans?

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

Repelican -

is a term of approbation,

a proof,

derogatory in nature,

intended to shame

and to ridicule

those who run for high office

upon a platform of lies before the whole world

and have not the decency to blush bright crimson.

they are reprehensible.

they are repulsive.

they are repellent.

they are repelicans . . . .

[-] 0 points by DunkiDonut2 (-108) 12 years ago

So you hate Obama that much that you call him that?

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

you have not the decency to blush bright crimson.

you are reprehensible.

you are repulsive.

you are repellent.

[-] 0 points by DunkiDonut2 (-108) 12 years ago

You said "high office", you said a "platform of lies", I would guess your talking about Obama? I would guess?

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

When I think of lies the lies I refer to are those that can most readily be identified by every single American - all they have to do is look out the window in the morning when they get up, and they can see -

Global Warming is real.

It is here.

It is now.

It will get worse.

Repelicans have lied.

[-] 0 points by DunkiDonut2 (-108) 12 years ago

The "high office" of Obama said there is not global warming? Your kidding?

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

No, I don't believe he has said that.

I do believe it is a chief talking point of the repelican party.

See Boner.

Social Security is a fund that is paid by everyone that has worked their entire lives taken out of their paychecks. This money should have never been touched other then those eligible for social security.

Fact: the number of people that actually live to retirement age is approx 8% of the total population so their should be a surplus of funds in our social security fund.

Since our goverment took upon themselves to borrow this money and have the audacity to enforce the tax payors to pay for borrowed money that they should never have touched in the first place.

I do not understand why the masses put up with this behavior for an entity that the masses believe is suppose to work for us.

[-] 0 points by DunkinDonut (11) 12 years ago

You need to investigate the comment you posted. Your EMPLOYER contributed to YOUR fund as a percentage. So if you worked for a corporation then that corporation owns a percentage of your SS, if you use your logic. Go to IRS and see how much your employer contributed to YOUR retirement while paying YOUR salary too.

[-] 1 points by barb (835) 12 years ago

I am fully aware that what I pay in, my employer meets that same amount.

[-] 0 points by Perspective (-243) 12 years ago

Actually the employer pays half and the employee pays half. According to my last statement I have paid over $70,000 into SS and my employers have matched that. Therefore I have $140,000 invested in SS and I doubt I'll see any of it.

[-] 1 points by DunkinDonut (11) 12 years ago

Isnt that what i told you?

[-] 0 points by Perspective (-243) 12 years ago

Kind of, I was just clarifying the actual numbers. :-)

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

OWS is not advocating to bring down the system. We want the system fixed, not destroyed.

[-] 2 points by DunkinDonut (11) 12 years ago

But your statement does not match what is being posted a huge number of times. OWS wants to "close" ports. OWS wants to "stop" shopping. OWS wants to "halt" traffic. OWS wants to "kill" the stock market. If those are not examples of bringing down a system, what would be your examples to counter those statements? If the system goes down, SS does too.

[-] 0 points by Perspective (-243) 12 years ago

OWS wants to inconvenience the 99% in hopes we will join them. the problem is we won't. OWS hasn't done the first thing to hurt the so called 1% while they do all kinds of things to make the 99%'s lives harder. In reality they could care less about the 99%,all they want is their agenda pushed.

[-] 1 points by DunkinDonut (11) 12 years ago

What you said, is absolutely correct. I agree 100% with you.

[-] 0 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

Closing ports or stopping traffic, while I don't necessarily condone either one, would be a transitory act, hardly something that would 'bring down the system.' No one can 'stop shopping,' one can only stop shopping at a particular store or business or for a certain time period. And as far as 'bringing down the system,' you have two kinds of people saying that. One group means bringing down the corrupt system presently in place, not the whole system. And the other group, the ones that may actually mean the 'whole system,' well, they're just dumb asses and you should ignore them. I think you may be taking most the comments too literally.

[-] 0 points by DunkinDonut (11) 12 years ago

I'm just going by what I read posted on this site. I'm not making this stuff up.

[-] 1 points by DunkinDonut (11) 12 years ago

It is about disruption, not creation.

[-] 1 points by jaimes (86) 12 years ago

You're NOT going to bring down the "system".

[-] 0 points by DunkinDonut (11) 12 years ago

Then what is the point?

[-] 1 points by jaimes (86) 12 years ago

Ask ows.

[-] 0 points by DunkinDonut (11) 12 years ago

I thought OWS isnt trying to bring down the system. I wish you guys would make up your mind if you are or you are not trying to bring down the system.
