Forum Post: Why Doesn't the Occupy Movement Surround the TV stations?

Egypt protesters surround state TV building

Opposition protest blocks streets around pro-Mubarak symbol of power in bid to stop journalists inside 'spreading more deception

Egypt's anti-government protesters have laid siege to the state television headquarters, surrounding army barricades and blocking access to the building.

"These people are presenting an alternative reality; even as the country is swept by revolution, they remain inside telling lies," http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/feb/11/egypt-protests-state-tv-building

The media is a huge part of the problem in this country, and a huge part of the problem OWS is having getting their message across.

Why not take the message to the stations, with demands made loud and clear on your signs, flyers with facts that real investigative reporters have done, copies of all the stories they have been ignoring etc.

How about a big sign that says Insider Trading is illegal for everyone, including Congress.

We need to stop letting those fascists use our public airwaves to sell more wars and cuts on the people.

If they don't use the public airwaves for the public good, they can have their license revoked.

Anyone know why this hasn't been done? It seems like the natural step to take...

Exactly Occupy - TV - FCC.

Carry placards that clearly spell out the corruption that needs to be addressed.

Thank You.

Always remember. If you like a post vote for it and bump.

If you love a post - vote for it, bump it, then copy and circulate elsewhere like Facebook and Twitter.

Go viral. http://occupywallst.org/forum/occupy-99-make-use-of-twitter/

Why is it other so many posters here only bump post started by obvious trolls? I see good people continually answering them only to ignore real news and helpful discussions.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

It's a distraction used by the supporters of greed/corruption. To bait supporters of Occupy & 99% to waste time venting at the crap peddlers.

It would be better to ignore the obvious shit mongers and let their posts just fade away. But when you feel passionate about fighting greed/corruption, it can be hard to ignore a challenge to do battle.

I am guilty of responding to the challenges as well, but I try to make it brief and leave something behind to dilute the ink of the poison pens.

Still it would be best to let them sink into obscurity by not responding to them. Let the shitheads rally around to support their crap. We should do our best to ignore them and support worthy posts.

I think it has more to do with wanting to take a swing at Corruption/Greed supporters then it has to do with rational consideration. If I take a swing at crap spewers I try to make it brief and leave a link to something good for others to find when they take a poke at the crap spewers.

It is up to us who can think clearly in the midst of anger to try to support the good posts and keep them in view of others.

This is why we are here this is why you are needed.

well I try to get some discussions going here, but they hire so many disinfo people it is hard to compete.

If people would just ignore them, their posts would drop to where no one will see or respond to them again....kinda like my posts keep doing only I actually care about the movement and want to help.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Sometime it takes a little self promotion to keep an important/good post in sight long enough to get noticed. It can also be good to promote someone Else's post while also leaving a link to yours for others to respond to when they see your comment on the other persons post.

It can also be a matter of how a post is introduced. Try a couple of different angels of introduction to catch notice/curiosity/participation.

This is what the corporate criminals are really afraid of.

Attack them at the source of their propaganda!

Taking back our public airwaves is the real way to get money out of politics.

The TV is the greatest tool to control and disinfranchise the people, bar none! The TV will never see it our way or be on our side until its ownership is broken up!

Whose airwaves? OUR PUBLIC AIRWAVES!

Every 8 years their license is up for renewal. They must prove that they serve the public interest.

It would be very easy at this time to prove that they do not serve the public interest.

Several recent studies show that Fox 'News' viewers are less informed that if they watched no news at all.

anyone know who is going to be on the Sunday morning political talk shows?

[-] 1 points by fucorporatemedia (451) 12 years ago

How about a Giant Sign that explains that Social Security and Medicare are separately funded by FICA taxes....and an illustration that shows welfare is a tiny percentage of government spending, the vast majority goes to the military.

Make the signs so large and informative, even the slow minds at the news can read and understand them. Who knows, maybe they believe their own BS, never bothered to read or educate themselves.

[-] 1 points by RedJazz43 (2757) 12 years ago

How about because it hasn't passed any Direct Action Working Group or GA yet?

[-] 1 points by AFarewellToKings (1486) 12 years ago

More fun occupying the media by making some interesting news. Any suggestions?

[-] 2 points by fucorporatemedia (451) 12 years ago

Surround Rockefeller center Saturday for Saturday night live. Stay overnight for Sunday Morning Republican book pimping talk shows meet the press etc.

[-] 1 points by AFarewellToKings (1486) 12 years ago

I was thinking more like what if the NYCGA publicly endorsed the working group on the 99% Declaration after privately removing their pages from this very website, then the media would be falling all over themselves to find out WTF a National General Assembly is. Wait till they find out it's the RepubliCrats worst nightmare. HA HA HA let the fun begin!

[-] 1 points by 99time (92) 12 years ago

How about the morning shows in Rockefeller Center and Times Square. They are right there out on the street. Break up the party. Force them back into their offices to look as isolated from the 99 percent as they really are!

[-] 1 points by fucorporatemedia (451) 12 years ago

yes!

[-] 1 points by jjuussttmmee (607) 12 years ago

because mammon owns the news and exerts control over them. To keep your mind trapped. The internet is ruining that and probably will be "chilled" soon. Be ready if you post to go to a FEMA camp as a anti-government agitator to be locked up as long as they want without trial. If we let them take the rights of free non-violent people, even to lowly criminals (any group) then they will eventually come for ours.

[-] 0 points by WooHoo (15) 12 years ago

Why did they leave their 'occupy' camps? Because they were told to. Why don't they surround TV stations? Because the police will arrest them.
