Forum Post: Where did respect for one another go?

I know that is very easy, especially in on online forum for things to deteriorate into childish name calling. It's a lot easier to be rude when you can't see the person you're insulting, but I have to ask, is all this really necessary? I support the occupy movement wholeheartedly, but I don't think those who disagree with me are stupid, brainwashed, or corrupt. They're people with different opinions who should have their say, just like everyone else. This should be about democracy first and democracy includes hearing opinions which you disagree with. I just wish we could have a real discussion about what's going on without resorting to insulting each other.

Perhaps it didnt go its just buried so deep hidden inside ourselves due to our present system predicament &we havent had the opportunity up till now to even begin to build an environment for this desire, this longing for "mutual respect", it could be & would be the common ground that could pull us together towards building sustainable unity.

It is impossible due to the self importance so many people place on themselves. It is no different here than anywhere else. When the " I" and the "me" changes to us and we , then maybe there will be some cohesive action. When we actually start to care about our neighbor and stand up for someone who can't, then things change. I wrote a thread the other day called " US vs Them" .. about this very same thing. When we start to listen to other opinions, things change. When we curse and name call , all action stops.

great post, I think capitalism has broken down the system to individuals who are overwhelmed by every day life and distracted by thousands of things, to a point where no one can agree so obsessed we are with our own day to day gratification.

Fear causes people to be disrespectful.

Thanks for your attempt at injecting some civility into the OWS forum. Many wonder how things ever got this way. I've been involved in other forums elsewhere and there seems to always be some who post strictly for antagonistic purposes. Swearing, name calling and spewing absolute hatred are, sadly, a part of life on the internet.

There are those who post here too that a very afraid of what OWS represents - CHANGE. Change can put people on the defensive. Change is uncomfortale because change puts us into unknown territory. How will change manifest itself? What are the ramifications, both near and far term? They tell us that we're spoiled kids, that we have no right to demand anything, that we ourselves can't agree on what is that we want - I'm sure you've read and heard it all.

Let's hope for improvements in posts in this forum as support for the movement grows and people come to the realization that OWS is something to be embraced and that those who are now detractors can become part of something wonderful.

History tells us that being a part of a revolution in it's early days has never been easy. Stay strong.

Article 5 convention NOW! Then to prepare for convention representing full constitutional intent, just like ART5 says, "

shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States or by Conventions in three fourths thereof,

We first DEMAND delegates ratify initial amendments assuring the citizens have full and adequate information about all pertinent issues required to evaluate and restore constitutional federal government. A message board for state-by-state forums waiting for us to gather. The proposal of amendment in preparation for a convention is a thread with a poll here.

http://articlevconvention.org/showthread.php?15-What-initial-amendments-will-improve-and-empower-the-conditions-of-a-conventi

Otherwise the method to enact the concept has a very deep history, predating the Declaration of Independence.

Any who oppose this concept must first come up with a mother or father who will deny, ignore or pass this opportunity we all share. We have consensus but we do not know it. Get the word out! NOW.

"Which mother or father in this nation will ignore or pass up the real opportunity to assure their child will grow into a nation that holds high and honors understanding that can create; forgiveness, tolerance, acceptance, respect, trust, friendship and love, protecting their life, their liberty and their pursuit of happiness?"

These principles promoting the sharing of information vital to survival are very appropriate for teaching to children. This makes a society where people have "respect for one another".

I have a lot of respect for many of the posters here. I don't have to agree with them on everything.

I don't have respect for a good many more. Now, asking me to play nice when they are obviously not............is a little too much.

So your argument is: I have to be rude because they were first?

I don't need an argument.

You either see what is going on or you do not.

I agree. Seriously everyone needs to stop thinking they are better than someone else. It took me 22 years to realize that and when I did the world changed. The world changed someway somehow people, stop and think for a minute, adapt and lets move on!!!! I'm stuck trying to move on because of the fucked up economy.... 75% of my unemployment check is going to food to keep me alive. Ugh I'm getting tired of struggling and I'm only 25..............is it ever going to end!!??
