Forum Post: When rich get too rich, cops become the enemy.

This content is user submitted and not an official statement

What is happening in New York and Ferguson should not surprize anyone. As the disparity increases between the haves and the have nots the enforcers of order will have to become more brutal in their actions, everything that is happening could be expected and has happen at other times. I do believe that the emphasis on the racial aspect distracts from the true cause of these brutal police actions though race does play a role, sad as that is. The race issue can and will be overcome the wealth inequality is only growing worst, and even now the GOP take even more power in Washington so the wealthy will be gaining even more over the next few years.

The climate, the police killing citizens these things all stems from; the rich are killing the world, and if we don't see it and actually do something about the underlying problem of wealth inequality there is little cause for hope.

It seems redundant to write about these things here, I have spent much of the past two years outlining the logic behind what is happening but since I think we should do something, like kill the GOP, rather than just dream about the someday solution, people around here don't care too much about what I say. Still just in case there are any real readers left, if there are any who wish to understand, I ask you to look here where the media went into a frenzy about what was wrong with Winona Ryder when she shoplifted but when Martha Stewart was caught she was a victim of sucess. It is about the type of crime not just the color of skin, now I do understand Winona was not killed just ridiculed, but what is happening is small property crimes committed by poor people can be punished by death by the arresting officer if he or she deem it appropriate. This sort of freedom for officers to act decisively will become more important as the wealth inequality reaches new levels.

OK it's not like anybody is going to read this anyway seeing how I actually believe getting the GOP out of office is worth doing.

Your problem is you fear becoming "an arm" of something rather than sitting down studying the problem and determining the next step, oh and telling simple truth is always good, the simple truth is the GOP work harder to keep the rich rich than anyone and simply telling the American people that would do a lot to correct the problem, if you think anybody or anything is going to be your "salvation" you have a lot of work to do, but if you are looking for that well truth telling is as good a place as any to start.

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

You know it. I know it. The American people know it.

This country faces enormous economic and political challenges. At a time when the wealthiest people and largest corporations are doing phenomenally well, most Americans are working longer hours for lower wages and median family income has fallen by $5,000 since 1999.

Politically, more and more Americans are giving up on the political process -- with the voter turnout in the recent midterm elections being the lowest since 1942. But, while young people and working people don't vote, the Koch Brothers and others in the billionaire class spend huge sums to elect candidates who will represent their interests.

What do we do? Well, we can give up -- and many people are. Or, we can fight back -- which is what I propose.

That's why I'm joining with the members of Progressives United to send a clear message to President Obama that we will stand with him when he vetoes Republican legislation that attacks the well-being of the struggling middle class.

Join me and members of Progressives United to urge the president to VETO any Republican legislation that attacks working families.

NO to cuts in Social Security. NO to cuts in Medicaid. NO to converting Medicare into a voucher program. NO to new trade legislation that sends our jobs overseas and hammers our middle-class workers. NO to cuts to nutrition programs, education, or environmental protection.

YES to raising the minimum wage. YES to a massive jobs program rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. YES to transforming our energy system away from fossil fuels. YES to pay equity for women workers. YES to overturning Citizens United.

We already know what "compromise" will mean from a Republican Congress: their way or the highway. In order to win in the future, President Obama must stand strong for the American middle class, and we must support him.

We already know what compromise will mean from this Republican Congress: their way or the highway. In order to win in the future, President Obama must shut them down starting now.

Tell President Obama: Standing firm is the only option, and that means committing to VETO legislation that attacks working families, and fighting for legislation that defends their needs.

In the remaining two years of the Obama presidency, Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker John Boehner will do absolutely nothing for anyone except their primary constituencies: Wall Street and America's wealthiest.

To combat the billionaire class's political power and influence, please join me in making it clear to the president that he must support government that works for all people, and not just corporations and the wealthiest among us.

Thanks for uniting as a progressive,

Bernie Sanders U.S. Senator

[-] -2 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

oh damn till I got to the end I thought you wrote that DK I was much impressed the forum could use some writers, but I see it was Bernie, well still well said...

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

It is nothing that I have not expressed before - it was just Bernie Sanders saying it in this instance - a good man stuck with many do nothings in office as well as being stuck with a stronger representation of actively evil in office ( after the 2014 elections ).

I thought it would be good to present an individual in office that wants to do good things for the majority of this countries population - and point out the fact that he can not do it alone.

Many here on this site talk about opting out - but then they offer nothing as to how we are supposed to go about making positive change - and they ignore the fact that opting out only makes the situation for the majority of the population worse.

[-] 0 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

These political hacks care only about building their own power base from which they can impose their policies, people who are afraid of co-opting care more about their own ego than they do the planet this is no different than the rich folks they claim to oppose they care nothing for the reality only their own precious selves.

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

I don't know who these idiots really are - but their course of in-action - is - self defeating - they propose nothing and call themselves genius.

[-] 0 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

Really? you don't know, they are Green Party activist bent on co-opting OWS for for own self interest.

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

So - "I" will ask again.

Besides opting out and handing government over to the corp(se)oRATions gift wrapped and tied with a bow.

What exactly is your plan of action?

OK - we have all heard you ( i think ) - protest - Right?

And then what?

Please elucidate.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

I will repeat the question until you answer. Why won't you answer the question? I hazard my guess as that you have nothing to offer - so you will dance around the question and just be insulting while doing so. Prove me wrong.

What exactly is your plan of action?

OK - we have all heard you ( i think ) - protest - Right?

And then what?

Please elucidate.

[-] 2 points by spinoza34 (400) 9 years ago

My first answer to you was very explicit especially considering the brusque manner in the way that you asked the question. Knowing that ...err mature.... party people are incapable of changing easily, I told you to do some research, but you didn't, did you?

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

See? There ya go - doin the 2 step.

So far the only thing you have come close to - as to owning - as your master plan of action - is - protest - and you haven't really even owned up to that as being what you think needs to happen - nor how you would take a protest process and make it the be all end all of needed public action.

So go ahead - and - dance - fool - dance.

[-] 1 points by turbocharger (1756) 9 years ago

How about creating amendments and then forcing politicians who are considering running to sign a statement that they will resign if they do not vote yay or nay on it?

This would require having at least one politician to submit the bill. And a population that has an attention span longer than 2 weeks.

[-] 1 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

It's going to resemble the Boris Yeltsin Saga-possibly.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Gosh darn . . . . . . . are you talking some kind of public voting type action?? Welllllll Gollllyyyy - hmmmmm - to do that don't ya have to - you know - not opt out? I mean you are talking about making use of an existing process - aren't you?

[-] 1 points by turbocharger (1756) 9 years ago

Hey everyone knows I support the minor parties, I support letting the entire thing burn, I support people who feel disenfranchised and the minor party groups do a shit job of providing alternative options, etc.

I support everything except endorsing the very D/R corruption that causes it all.

Probably why me and you have never really seen eye to eye on things.

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

No - why you and I do not see eye to eye on things is because you offer nothing proactive for the public to get involved in. Hell you couldn't even expound on your idea of making amendments to get things changed - you have to the best of my knowledge never even supported Move To Amend ( you know - the 50 state public campaign to overturn citizens united ).

Hell even your talk about protesting is lacking any sort of direction for the public to take - you just say (whenever you might say something - which is real rare ) - go out and protest. Do you really think that that is all there is to it?

[-] 2 points by turbocharger (1756) 9 years ago

And I know Ive given you this video to try to shut you up before, but here is the video of the event where I helped promote it and got OT to livestream it, with globalrevolution restreaming it later that week.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBxgmEJxHo0

Ya know dude, its not like I dedicate myself to activism full time like some people I know, but jeez I do try to contribute on a regular basis so lay off a bit.

[-] 2 points by turbocharger (1756) 9 years ago

And I know, all of the social action stuff I do, along with the minor party stuff and other organizing things, ya none of that is practical either. What a fool I am!

I will tell you this, as I have learned over the last few years- the biggest thing holding back minor parties is their fear of success. The thought of being relevant is so far out for them, that is the biggest challenge, getting the big thinking going and forget all the minor small details.

[-] 2 points by spinoza34 (400) 9 years ago

Forget the old dictionary, we now have the New Dictionary

  1. activism - voting for one of the people in the corrupt duopoly

  2. opting out - not voting for one of the people in the duopoly

  3. proactive - trying to get everyone else too..to vote for a person in the duopoly

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Listen-up shit head - I can not help it if you are dumber than a box of rocks. Cut the crap and start talking about what can be done and how it can be done to make this a better country for ALL - or - JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Comprehend?

I talk to people in the language that they understand and require - if you require and understand only nasty confrontation ( as you display in your comments to others) - well then - that is the language you ask to be spoken to in. I have plenty of good discussions with plenty of people who disagree with my point of view - the difference there - IS - That those people will try to explain their point of view - as do I - until I meet up with unreasoning crap with no attempt to try to explain a position or offer any alternatives to what is seen as being a wrong approach..

Ya, lol, thats why ive been talking to MTA about Cobb stopping in Tampa while he is in Fl this week. Unfortunately, he can't make it as teh schedule is full, to come to a meeting, but he will (hopefully) be available for the TV show recording that JS is doing. Being that last time I talked to him for about 20 minutes while he was here, and he might be crashing at my house next week, ya I have no clue about MTA.

We may be driving down to Sarasota next week, Ill tell him you said hi lol.

Why are you such a hater?

[-] 1 points by turbocharger (1756) 9 years ago

You can email Jessica or Ambrosia and tell them Jeremy from Tampa is very upset DC can't make it on the 10th, and next time I need more than 3 weeks notice to get an event promoted lol.

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Why - WHY??? - should you or anyone else dedicate an event - TO ANYONE?? An event should be about issues - and whoever shows up - shows up - but to dedicate whether an event is a success or not by who does or does not appear - is - stupid and counter productive.

[-] 3 points by turbocharger (1756) 9 years ago

Ya, " An event should be about issues - and whoever shows up - shows up - but to dedicate whether an event is a success or not by who does or does not appear - is - stupid and counter productive."

Listen rookie, you are probably about 3xs as old as me but to be honest you know jack shit about organizing. So please, leave that shit to the people who do understand it.

Would you like a detailed explanation about why having the person who leads an organization showing up to an event about said organization may have a dramatic effect on the success of the event?

How about this, an easy one for starters- how would you, personally, judge the success of an event? Seems how you believe in "I have plenty of good discussions with plenty of people who disagree with my point of view - the difference there - IS - That those people will try to explain their point of view - as do I "

So lets hear it, Mr political guru.

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

BTW - How do you expect to influence or educate ANYONE - if you can't spell out your process for positive change? How do you intend to change someones mind (ABOUT WHAT ? I DON'T KNOW - AS FOR ONE - YOU ARE NOT SAYING) Being nasty as you are won't win hearts and minds.

[Removed]

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Doin the 2 step = being nasty and offering nothing. Yep pretty much all I expect from you. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

[-] 2 points by spinoza34 (400) 9 years ago

Ditto

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Ditto? BULLSHIT

You don't want to have a conversation - and the only time I ever got nasty to you - was when you were already being nasty to others and that was your whole intent and input when I started to ask you what you would do different and you have to this very point in time refused to posit anything positive or even halfway thoughtful.

Prove me wrong or just go away - bring on the positive actions for the public to get involved with - OR - JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!!

We are going to have to improvise at some point.I can't wrap my mind around what kind of Collapse might happen.Perhaps Partial Collapse with Cooler Heads Prevailing?Look what happened at Tahrir. And the Clusterfuck Continues.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

At this point in time? With 2/3 of the population opting out? The collapse will have to be catastrophic and the recovery very painful and prolonged - this time it won't be an individual country (as was basically the original gr8 depression) - this time the economic crash will be world wide.

[-] 2 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

When I try to imagine it my mind just goes fucking blank. For Real.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

I know - it really is a hard thing to picture/imagine. For all practical purposes - the whole f'n world. All tied to the inevitable collapse of world wide criminal financial activities.

I'm pretty fucking worried about the Actions in DC.They have been trying 2 shut down the Beltway 4 3 days. They might have succeeded. This can get you killed.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Protestors of killer cops shutdown a major section of Highway 35 in Minnesota - through the down town area today - and yep that can get one killed. Fortunately the cops (?) figured out that it would be less time consuming if they let the protest march on "un Molested". Very much not in keeping with national police response. Huh - weird.

I take it that you mean the retailers - the commercial industries.

In that respect = they are doing their damnedest.

Fortunately - public protests are on the rise again this year and sales are down again - which should make for the dismalest sales season ever - well since last year anyway - which was pretty dismal. Though I think that family get together-s have not been hurt by this trend.

really? your wish to divide and conquer? so you are a straight up operative of the GOP, congrats on your big win defeating the evil Dems....

[-] 3 points by IndigoRed (87) 9 years ago

If the GOP become dominant again it will be a sour time indeed. We were so close to getting a 3rd party in office maybe it'll actually work this time! I'm more republican than anything but even I wouldn't want to see the GOP back any time soon.. I'd be fine with Tea partiers taking the majority but there's still that tidbit about them being mostly white..

[-] -1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

What is so sad is that OWS has added to this thought of some "third party solution" which cause people to not get involved in current "broken system" which results in more wins for the GOP and the rich getting richer, the chief result of OWS a few years in is to get more people to not vote and get more GOP in office so the rich have once again turned things to their benefit because people care more about their ideals than the truth.
