Forum Post: We will be 'hijacked' by those with agenda if we don't clarify who we are

I am the 99% - I am one of the original 'End the Fed' people who were co-opted into the movement before it even started, I have been here watching OWS form over the last around 2 months. I love this idea.

That said, if you don't define a clear message, demands, etc. then those that already have contacts in the media, and know how to work the existing system, will simply, and absolutely, hijack this group.

How can that be, you ask? Simple.

  1. Those with agenda join the protest (we are in this stage now)
  2. Their media friends come and interview them and a couple of other hand picked stooges
  3. Media disseminates said interviews
  4. PROFIT!!

Now, this becomes your message.

It is just that simple. This is why your mom told you to pick your friends carefully.

Please, can someone, anyone, tell me simply and coherently, how come this won't happen? What assurances do we have to avoid this?

Not sure about 4. but we seem to be in stage 3. now. Michael Moore spoke for this group on Russia Today and maybe for other media, Unions too, may have given or will be giving interviews on MSM. OWS accepted endorsements from a number of Unions officially, which aligned itself with Democratic Party's constituents. If staying independent politically was OWS strategy, then it is compromised already. At least it will have effects to divide the protest into left-right political paradigm. Accepting Union members are ok and great, but accepting Union endorsements has totally different meaning.

Time will tell but this movement, if hijacked, could be amalgamated into President Obama's re-election campaign for 2012.

I wonder sometimes if it wasn't created with that in mind... Ever hear of bait and switch? Get people to join, thus increasing your numbers, afterward tell them the message....

It's easy. We should have two demands. Audit the FED, with that it will open a can of worms and the second is to just ENFORCE the constitution and the rest will follow.

1 Audit the FED

2 Enforce the constitution

EZ EZ EZ

Truth, obviously I support this idea. The problem is that so many kids don't understand what the fed is, what he does, and how the fed ties into this. It makes us look like we are over 50 when we bring up the Fed.

This is obviously by design - it benefits all those in power to hide what the fed does.

You hit the nail. Everyone is looking for a cause. When "audit the fed" is a demand, then they have to print that in the news. They don't want that as a demand, because then the kid might actually google "What is the Federal Reserve?" Hmmm,

"Now, this doesn't seem right in light of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence".<---------- this is the light bulb to spark the revolution.

Have messages and support from across the political spectrum- is this movement up for that?

What would the media do if the Left, Right, and Middle were present at the protests and respectfully discussing the issues with each other?

So, what you are saying is: Leave your special interest group at home. Come as yourself, represent only yourself. Is that correct? If it is then I am 99% behind you! :)

That is my thing too. But that does not mean everyone is for that as well. I don't want to be sold as a message for someone else, I want to be my message.

I just wish I could see how to do that.

another reason we must have a wiki and sub forums immediately.

Mr. Furter, what do you propose?

This is a broad coalition of people with differing aims and beliefs. This is a strength as well as a weakness.

That's real honesty anonrez. It is good to see some are still thinking themselves. That's what I love about this movement, it has restored some of my hope about the people.

I have already proposed and been told no, so I am listening now instead of speaking, and seeing what I can learn.
