Forum Post: We MUST take the MONEY out of our elections!!

The reason we have people representing us that are not "in touch" with 99% of us, is that the elections are highly unfair. Unless you are rich, you don't stand a chance at representing the people politically.

Why don't we take the money out of our campaigns? Give each candidate the same amount of air time on television and radio and have national televised debates.

We also need to stop giving elected officials so many perks during their time of service and after holding office. They should not make more than minimum wage AND should have to pay for health insurance from their wages, just the same as other workers. We should insure that our elected officials remember at all times that they are public servants.

Until we reform our election process (take the money out of the equation) and get rid of lobbyists, NOTHING changes!!

Agreed. 1% buys their representation, 99% are left with the scraps. Is it any wonder that our country is in such terrible shape?
Money in the political system has diminished our democracy.

Our government needs to amend the constitution, enable Fair Elections Now Act to be passed immediately! No more corporate or special interest donations. 100% public funding.

If we can't make this happen, nothing else really matters.

I agree that is the first best step to saving our democracy!

AmericansElect.org offers a good alternative to money-based politics, and although I'm all in favor of taking down today's ineffective and inefficient Top 10% Management Group of Business & Government (including limiting money in politics), there's only one way to do it – by fighting bankers as bankers ourselves. Consequently, I have posted a 1-page Summary of the Strategic Legal Policies, Organizational Operating Structures, and Tactical Investment Procedures necessary to do this at:

I agree with getting private money out of our government. Make this the first and foremost issue we deal with. Everyone can agree on that campaign finance reform is badly needed.

Realistically, the minimum wage bit is never going to fly. Regardless of whether this is the ethically right think to do, it is far too extreme.

The only way that is going to happen is through an amendment to the constitution or through a change in the composition of the supreme court. Citizens United has made meaningful election reform all but impossible.

AGREE!! To me this is what we should be focusing on. If we really want to DO SOMETHING HERE, we should focus on THIS. Nothing will ever change until we GET THE corporate MONEY OUT of the hands of the politicians.
