Forum Post: Walker Recall Overshadows GOP's Weird Wisconsin Primary

Wisconsin blogger and activist Blue Cheddar promptly put out a call on Facebook for Wisconsinites to attend the event with stuffed-animal dogs strapped to the roofs of their cars.

Rick Santorum, meanwhile, told a group of conservatives gathered at the Americans For Prosperity "Defending the American Dream" conference in Milwaukee last weekend:

"Thank you for electing your great and courageous governor."

"I know what it takes to fight the bullies," Santorum said of the public sector unions whose collective bargaining rights Walker all but ended.

Also on Friday, the recall against Walker became official.

The Government Accountability Board finished counting signatures for recall, certified the election, and set a date of June 5 for the general election and May 8 for likely primaries in the recalls of Walker and four Republican state senators. The Republican party promptly announced it will be running fake Democrats in the senate recall races, to force primaries and give Republican candidates more time to raise money.

The GAB counted 900,939 valid signatures to recall Walker. Despite the Republican outcry echoed by Rush Limbaugh about fake names like Mickey Mouse on the petitions, the Board found exactly four fake names out of the million signatures it counted. The rest of the invalid signatures were either illegible or the addresses could not be verified--but the margin above the 540,000 signatures needed was overwhelming.

The teabaggers have finally reduced American Public life to a true circus! You have to laugh just to keep from crying!

Many years ago there was a Democrat campaigning in Wisconsin - and was giving out free cigarettes to voters. A republican politician demanded that the state law against bribery be enforced, and the Democrat be prosecuted. And ( thank you Paul Harvey ) here's the rest of the story-
the Democrat was Al Gore
the republican was scott walker ............. :)

God will save America - we don't have to

don't worry about the kochs stealing America-
we will be happier than the kochs when we are dead
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle
than it is for a rich man to get into heaven

Between this and the banks trying to get out of the Volcker rule.....it's going to be a fun ride.

I like the way things are starting to progress. We need to keep doing what we have been. The message is being heard - now it needs repeating to stay on coarse.

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Agreed.

Excellent!!

And where is the MSM coverage??? I saw a complete fluff piece on one of the Nets. The guy was taped talking smack thinking he was talking to a (son of John Birch Society) Koch Bro!!! Walker is Nixon bad.

And have you seen what that CREEP in Indiana has been up to???

Just signed an It's OK to shoot the Cops law!!!

No recall there as far as I know (AFAIK). And there are more infected states, as well as (AWA) Congress!!!

This is what happens when many of us POUT instead of Vote, like many of us did in 2010!!! There's a dif between Cons and Dems, a BFD difference!!! Tell a friend.

Unite and Win! Unite and Win! 2010 Never EVER Again!!

Register and Vote! Register and Vote! "We the 1%" NOT What They Wrote!!

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

And have you seen what that CREEP in Indiana has been up to???

That Sovereign Citizen smelling law? Yep.

[-] 2 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 11 years ago

Where's Indiana's recall campaign?? Michigan?? Florida?? Ohio?? on and on where Cons exploited the easy and complicit sabotage of our first black POTUS.

BUT we wouldn't be "here" if we "all" showed up in 2010.

I hope all the Pouty little petulant newbie Dems ~ who were all excited and behind Obama in '08 during the bright and shiny campaign BUT when things got down and dirty and he needed them BAILED and betrayed him and "hope & change" in 2010 ~ realize what they have done. How F-ing stupid they were! How much worse they made things! I just hope they learned. But we can never EVER count on them again.

Meanwhile, we have to get new voters, discouraged voters and old voters to Register and Vote to fix this mess that was redoubled in 2010.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I don't think Florida, Ohio and Indiana can have recall elections. Mitch is on his way out. If you think he was bad, then Indiana better get off it's ass to keep Mike Pence from becoming governor.

Sorry BUT we wouldn't be "here" if we "all" showed up in 2010. Pass the word.

Have you seen Heist, yet?

Love Greenwald.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I haven't seen the Heist yet.

I would like to point out one small thing. While I realize that the Right played major spin, had the Dems in congress stood their ground on a number of issues instead of worrying about reelection and fought the spin instead of caving then they would have gotten further.

The reality is that there are many people that recognize the attack on the televisions as having come from corporations and others, there are just as many who rely on the television and local dailies for all of their information. Meaning that they are not going to seek out any other information.

[-] 0 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 11 years ago

This Heist has got to be the most elusive doc ever. It's either really bad, or so damning the powers that be are sandbagging it, like the Cons do in Congress to everything Obama and Dems even think of doing.

Yes, if Dems and Obama overcame the blatant and shameless obstruction, filibuster-abuse and outright sabotage against them ~ which they did by the way ~ on all the things they tried to do, they would have indeed gotten further. Point taken. But, had we not had so many DINOs, Bluedogs and Lieberman Dems and had millions of fickle '08 Obama supporters noticed what was happening for all to see and Voted, we wouldn't have a TeaBagged Congress and several John Birch Society-ed states, plus they would have gotten further. Regardless, amazingly, they got quite a lot accomplished, in spite of petulant and unreliable supporters.

Information is a problem. America gets it from TV which is owned by the 1% who also employ Republicons. Big problem. This is why Occupies everywhere need the be picture perfect and camera ready. Loud and Clear signs, banners and FLAGS. No more Woodstock reenactments, cardboard and crayon scribbles or sleeping bag parking lots. Image. And we have to get out the Votes, cuz these newbies can't be trusted.

The 2006 and '08 elections were the start, not the finish! Now we've gone backwards negating what accomplishments we made. Infuriating!

Prog-Talk Radio is on coast to coast. Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann, Norman Goldman, Ring Of Fire, on and on, all online, Iheartradio, NO EXCUSE!!!
