Forum Post: Voting is no different than Jury Duty

This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Could that be because it is the 99% who are the ones who are "STRUGGLING" to survive in this repugnacan (trademarked) induced, created and sustained economic disaster we all suffer today. A Fireman can put out the fire and rescue the victims, but not if someone keeps shutting off the water and then groups together to block him from entering the house to save the victim. For those unaware, that was an analogy. President Obama can't fix the economy if he is blocked and obstructed in everything he does. The saddest part is, is that most Americans are rape victims who are listening to their rapist's story that he had to do it because he was trying to save the victim from being raped. Any American stupid enough not to research the truth behind "ANY" statement made by "ANY" politician, deserves the consequences that accrue as a result of taking said politicians word alone. Any moron can cast a vote, but if they cast that vote ignorant of the truth and "FACTS", then they are not only a moron, they are criminally irresponsible. Voters obligations are the same as jury duty, you are supposed to get to the TRUTH and then vote to apply the correct decision that benefits and protects SOCIETY as a WHOLE. The simplest question I have for Mitt Romney is..."What can you possibly say to me that will dissuade me from believing that the only reason you want the power of the Office of the President of the United States is to use that power to craft a tax structure, regulatory structure and governmental infrastructure that would solely benefit you and your investors (the 1% and Corporations) with policies solely geared to exponentially increase yours and their wealth. After all, that was exactly what you did at Bain Capital. Ship out jobs, fire people, destroy benefits and pensions, and put companies into bankruptcy, while you and your investors walked away with all the money. How can you possibly convince me that you would NOT apply "that Business" experience in the Oval Office. My Healthcare is not a competition. My living standard is not supposed to be predicated on HOW much more money YOU make." These are the types of questions responsible and civic minded Americans should be asking. But sadly, Americans are lazy, and will accept any lie so long as the lie promises them something they want. Of course when they don't get it, they tend to blame the wrong person. Find the Truth, Use the Truth, Apply the Truth. Anyone incapable of seeing just who is holding the nation hostage, and then votes for the hostage takers yet again, are as guilty of the crime as the hostage takers. Under the Law, it is called Aiding and Abetting. Wake up America, you don't have much time left to find the truth and be able to use it, because the repugnacans are working overtime to ensure that the vast majority of Americans no longer have a voice of representation in the policies of our nation. Why do you think so many disproportionately African and Latino Americans are being charged with bogus crimes and incarcerations. What do you lose when you are done like that.... Good Guess! That's right, Your Constitutional rights...Voting just being one of those rights. Any Moron who votes for Romney, Votes to enslave themselves to the New American Aristocracy. Or as it was called in the old days, White Supremacy. KKK. Nazi Purity. GOP(Gestapo Only Party). Anyone who fails to learn the history of America and the world, is doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past, which risks not only their lives, but mine as well. Learn America... You don't have much time left.

We must not
DEMAND that we WANT THEM.to give to US
We must

Because of the Supreme Court's decision,
we cannot accomplish anything significant, without FIRST -

Overturning Citizens United !!!
Ending Corporate Personhood !!!

80% of Americans already agree on it
as stated in the ABC/Washington Post poll

In the the PFAW Poll -

85% of voters say that corporations have too much influence over the political system today.
77% think Congress should support an amendment to limit the amount corporations can spend on elections.
74% say that they would be more likely to vote for a candidate for Congress who pledged to support a Constitutional Amendment limiting corporate spending in elections.

COMMENTS ON THE ABOVE ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED

IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO ACT ----> JOIN US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Our primary goal should be to elect representatives who support a constitutional amendment to counter Supreme Court decision Citizens United (2010) , that enables unlimited amounts of anonymous money to flood into our political system.
We don’t have to explain or persuade people to accept our position – we only have to persuade them to ACT based on their own position. Pursuing this goal will prove to the world that we, at OWS, are a serious realistic Movement, with serious realistic goals. Achieving this goal will make virtually every other goal – jobs, taxes, infrastructure, Medicare – much easier to achieve –
by disarming our greatest enemy – GREED.

IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO ACT ----> JOIN US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

I feel that using the tactics of the NRA, the AARP, the TP, the anti-SOPA – who all represent a minority – who have successfully used their voting power and political pressure to achieve their minority goals - is a straight path for us to success that cannot fail to enable us to create and complete one task that the MAJORITY want.

I am already part of the 99% and do what I can to bring awareness to my fellow citizens where I can... now don't take this wrong.. but I NEVER open links of any kind on my computer. I prefer to avoid granting access to hackers, and I'm sure you are aware that that is just one of the ways they gain access. Now I fairly computer literate, but I not a binary geek.. I can solve a fair amount of issues, but I don't possess that level of computer savvy. I cannot afford to lose it, I am too poor to replace it. I earn less than 12K a year with a family of 3. Simply put I cannot afford any time away that interferes with providing for my family. My voice is all I can afford to give at "this" time. I was one of the lucky ones, I received a great education, and have spent several decades acquiring beneficial skills that I have been privileged to share with many others to their benefit. If this offer to join was genuine, and not a troll or hacker, then I am honored and grateful to you for the offer, but I must do what I can for the 99% as I have been doing, as I cannot abandon my familial responsibilities by getting arrested saying the same things I'm saying now, only in an officers face, which really accomplishes nothing accept giving the powers that be an opportunity to silence my voice by taking my vote from me by charging me with a bogus crime, like claiming an assault on an officer and so on... My voice is more powerful in my vote, than it ever would be on a street in an officers face. An officer by the way who has no control over the laws and policies of our nation, only the responsibility to enforce them. Its the politicians who have to be forced to hear our voice...and that can only be done with our vote. But I thank you for your offer all the same. P.S. I'm in Washington state, not D.C., it would be one helluva commute to NYC. LOL

I got the day off of work with pay when I was on jury duty. You get nothing when you vote except the feeling that you have been had.

[-] 1 points by matoinyanawacis (157) 11 years ago

So you have never benefited from good and decent legislation because you voted consciously to be treated equally. Say like, not being forced to work 12 to 20 hour days without FAIR compensation, or work in an environment that does not put you health or life at risk without you consent, or better yet, mandates that when you are called to jury duty, you are by law required to be compensated. Do you get it... it was because civic and socially minded AMERICANS sought to create laws that benefitted all fairly. Only lately, say the last 25-30 years a certain party (repugnacans) has been eroding that social contract we once made between one another... and now they want to destroy whats left.. Social Security, Medicare and a multitude of other benefits we instituted to aid us all in our times of need. If you feel you've been had, its because you look for the truth hard enough and wound up voting the wrong way or not at all. All must suffer the consequences of their actions. Recognize who is ACTUALLY trying to help our nation, and who is really trying to buy your vote so he can abuse the power he paid you to give him. Anyway, you sound like you care, but are simply disillusioned and tired of our nations disfunction. Don't give up, otherwise you earn what you allow to flourish without dissent.

[-] 1 points by nobnot (529) from Kapaa, HI 11 years ago

You have many good points. The problem is that unless people STOP voting for a right wing democratic party it will continue to support a republican agenda. The democratic party has been Republican lite since 1980.It gives workers nice sound bites as it delivers large to the corporate machine. The labor legislation was enacted by the force of the people. The politicians only fall in line if we push the issue not the inverse.

[-] 1 points by matoinyanawacis (157) 11 years ago

Another good point.. which is why "I" do not identify myself with either party... "I" identify myself as "American". I may agree with many different concepts and policies brought forth by both sides presently in control of our government on occasion.. But... over the last decade up to now there is little to nothing I "TRUST" coming from the repugnacan party... their agenda is so prevalent and obvious, that you literally have to be blind, deaf, dumb "&" mute to not understand the motivations behind their actions.. They are nothing more than paid whores, trained lapdogs, cowering sychophants of the 1% and corporations. "I KNOW" who owns my government and has literally been dictating the policies and legislation that have been ruining life after life in our once progressive nation. The dichotomy of the repugnacan message is staggering to behold... jobs being lost to technology (never mentioning those jobs and tech being located at low...low...low...low wage sites overseas) is nothing more than progress, however any progress that deals with improving the social welfare and living standards of our nations citizens is class warfare and government handouts... Nevermind, the repugnacans greatest and LARGEST welfare check handed out is not to any American citizen but to their corporate masters...Big Oil. America has no right to claim any moral high ground until and unless it deals fairly with all of its citizens. If a citizen pays 30% income tax, then so does a corporation and rich 1%er. ANYTHING less is deliberate intent to prove unequal representation and treatment in our society. My final observation is NO ONE has the right to own land! You may own the house you "built"...BUT no one but the Creator "built" the land... the land belongs to ALL who live upon her breast. That concept is the one thing hardest for the rich to accept. Greed is not good. Power is only good when it is used to help others, not one's self. When people start to understand how life WAS meant to be, equality and quality of life will once again rise to flourish for all.

[-] 1 points by nobnot (529) from Kapaa, HI 11 years ago

I agree with what you say.But let us remember that the republicans have always been for the one percent.I expect that behavior from them.It is the democrats that have betrayed the working people. All great movements go them and die.It can no longer be said that they are the lesser of two evils.Let's face it the game is rigged and new rules will never help us.The only hope for the young people of today is total system change.

[-] 1 points by matoinyanawacis (157) 11 years ago

Amen, as I said, I am not a repugnacan or a donothingcrat, I am an American. Thus my loyalty is to America, not a ideological viewpoint of a particular party.

Most Americans are not lazy but your argument that a vote for Romney is a vote for white supremacy or the kkk is very lazy. Like many arguments lazy people make, you haven't included any facts. There are no supporting numbers or stats. Just another angry person spouting a kind of hatred they say they are opposed to.

[-] 1 points by matoinyanawacis (157) 11 years ago

Hmm.... Maybe that is why I stated that the lazy should research the truth "FOR THEMSELVES" rather than vote from and in ignorance. I already have.... seems you are one of the lazy ones because you seem to expect me to supply you with the facts... that would make me nothing more than another voice in the wilderness. What you call angry, I call disgusted. Disgusted with the selfish despotic behavior of people whose only motivation is their own self gratification and enrichment. Anyways if you are incapable of seeing the deliberate intent behind, say for instance, the voting purges and laws DESIGNED to BLOCK many Americans right to vote (Pssst... by the way the vast majority of which are NON-WHITES) than you are probably one of those who helped design the conspiracy to disenfranchise millions of Americans of their CONSTITUTIONAL rights. By the way, in case you think otherwise... I am Native American... but unless you look closely, I LOOK WHITE. Do your own work to find the truth lazy one, I pointed you in the right direction, that is all I feel obligated to do, you know love thy neighbor and all that. OK, bring on your typical insults.

The 99% aren't struggling as you stated - If it was you can be sure there would be rioting in the street.

No one knows for sure the true unemployment rate and there are some suggestions of 16% but that includes people working at less then their original income levels. .

So, the remainder of the population out there are working, paying their bills and doing what's necessary to make it or in some instances survive.

However, there are lots of people working who are doing better the just making it - listen to some of the "money management" programs on the radio and you will get an idea of what's going on with people.

Sure there are pockets of depression in areas across the country. However, there are hugh pockets of economic growth - some states are at 4% right now.
