Forum Post: Value-added tax for US competitive products made overseas

Make the tax as high as the competitive price. If a cell phone made overseas costs the consumer 250.00 and one made in the US costs 300.00 then make up the difference in a tax. Put VAT stickers with the total price on the package, Consumers will need to pay the additional cost of having products made here, but, they "will" be MADE HERE. Putting tariffs on products made elsewhere would work also but what is a better idea is to have the consumer see up front that their purchase will benefit American labor and increase jobs.

Barriers to trade only harm industries over time. Look at what steel tariffs and protectionist car pricing did to those industries. Devastating negative effects.
