Great Post! I hope the police and firefighters understand the pro-union dimension of this movement. They (I mean the police) might take another attitude if they did.

[-] 3 points by francismjenkins (3713) 12 years ago

Well, I think the cops had some serious misconceptions about OWS. They never seen something like an "occupy" movement, and the "anarchism" aspect is also something that they're likely unfamiliar with. The connotation of the word anarchy is not good (in common parlance), and most people aren't intellectuals who read guys like Chomskey (and OWS probably threatened many peoples commonly held notions).

It's all good, last fall was the first run for OWS, and so far so good (I mean, I'm sure it's been successful beyond anyone's wildest dreams). There's a learning curve for everything, and I have to assume this is no different. So 2012 is gonna be beautiful, I have every confidence.

[-] -1 points by WooHoo (15) 12 years ago

Hahaha! Yeah, most people aren't intellectuals who read "Chomskey".

[-] 2 points by francismjenkins (3713) 12 years ago

I think if someone is taking the time to learn about the views of guys like Chomskey (doesn't have to be Chomskey in particular), then they probably at least have a healthy dose of intellectual curiosity (a good thing).

[-] 0 points by WooHoo (15) 12 years ago

Priceless.

[+] -6 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

You have the intellect of a gnat. What the hell are you talking about?

Now log out and log back in as one of your other alts so I can watch Richard verbally beat your ass real quick.

[-] -1 points by WooHoo (15) 12 years ago

Maybe I should go read Chomskey.

Isn't this where you get classy and start hurling f-bombs and make disgusting sexual remarks or is this a different GirlFriday?

[+] -6 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

WooooHoooo. Isn't this fun, Fucktwit?

[-] -1 points by WooHoo (15) 12 years ago

It IS you!

[+] -6 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

:D

Hahahahahahahahahahaha.

Isn't this what you wanted?

[-] -3 points by WooHoo (15) 12 years ago

Not nearly as volatile tonight though, I bet you're tweaking your dosages, am I right?

[+] -5 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

You'er here to disrupt. I just want to help you. :D

[-] -3 points by WooHoo (15) 12 years ago

Once again (and if I had a nickel for every time I've said it), I'm not here to disrupt at all. I'm here for the entertainment.

[+] -5 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

Sure you are. I'm just helping you. Isn't this fun?

Hey that is why you came here isn't it? Pat yourself on the back and move-the-fuck-along.

[+] -6 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

Still can't get enough, huh?

[-] -2 points by WooHoo (15) 12 years ago

You definitely got your meds tweaked. You seem rational, or at least civil.

[+] -5 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

I have no intention of being civil to you or your other ID's. Get used to it. I'm just giving you what you came for.

[-] -2 points by DependentClass (19) 12 years ago

Yes, government unions are great. Government unions can be relentless advocates for a bigger government and tax increases simply because members work there. Government workers can vote for more compliant bosses that decide their pay and benefits.

It's truly fantastic, except for one thing: government workers aren't sticking it to the man, they're sticking it to their neighbors that just don't happen to work for government. Just a little detail that escapes pro-union liberals.

OWS scares the crap out of scabs.

[-] 0 points by Carlitini99 (-167) 12 years ago

If OWS scares scabs, it also scares 99% of the adult U.S. population. Violence and anarchy have a way of doing that. That's why we will fail, we are too damn scary

[-] 1 points by cJessgo (729) from Port Jervis, PA 12 years ago

What rump did you pull out that number of? What and who do you mean by we? The only thing that is "scary" is the status quo. Violence has been commited to the movement not by the movement.

[-] 0 points by Carlitini99 (-167) 12 years ago

I'm for improving the image of OWS, but denial isn't going to help. OWS has the image of being violent, not accross the board, but look at Oakland, SF, NYC with attacks on the Police not by the Police.

[-] 1 points by cJessgo (729) from Port Jervis, PA 12 years ago

You are not for but against. And you do not speak the truth.

[+] -6 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

The Year Dissent Came Back and Then Went Back Home Because the Cops Showed Up and "Hey, I'll Camp for Social Change but I'm Not Taking a Baton to the Head"

[-] -1 points by DependentClass (19) 12 years ago

The year the hippies came back.

[+] -6 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

You are many years out of date. :D

[-] -1 points by DependentClass (19) 12 years ago

You are. If you had any perspective, thinking about the hippies and then thinking about OWS would at least give you a laugh.

[+] -6 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

I do have perspective, sweet pea. It still stands. You are many years out of date.

[-] 0 points by DependentClass (19) 12 years ago

Hardly. The year dissent came back? The year the socialists saw an opportunity. The year the whiners come out and bitched. The year the poor decisions got blamed on someone else. The year the socialist entitlement states in Europe cracked. Maybe these, but definitely not yours.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

the year folks learned that banks approved loans and gave money to people who didn't have enough money to buy shit.

[+] -6 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

Ah, another one here for adversity. You may pick your little one of the above and we can address it. Or you can continue to whine, but you will do so solo.

[-] 1 points by ThunderclapNewman (1083) from Nanty Glo, PA 12 years ago

PTI folks, but I don't think speaking out was ever passe OR en vogue. "Bitching and whining" are here to stay. They're what moves the world. For what it's worth, I began protesting back in the early 1970s and never stopped. Hippie? You betcha! The status quo just ain't for me, you see!

Peace!

oh, hey, Check this: CBS reported this evening -

Youngstown Ohio earthquakes - fracking - pumping fluid into fault encourages fault to slip

Well shut down, data supports relationship between fluid injection and quake

[-] -3 points by PileOfSmegAKAZenDog (-30) 12 years ago

we all know how accurate CBS is

who owns them again?

[+] -5 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

I saw that.

It is all about: Now that we have your attention.

[+] -4 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

I think if they started destabilizing the crust of the earth beneath my feet I would be getting their attention . . .

hehe

Welcome back.

[+] -7 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

Thanks. :D

I notice that the MSM cannot continue to ignore this. Wonder if it started nailing their houses yet. I also have to wonder just how this will impact insurance companies under acts of god.

[-] -3 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

I'm sure the insurance industry will find a way to slide out from under any way they can.

[+] -5 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

Yep. I also notice that in some areas the Real Estate agents are not happy with the contamination etc. that surrounds those areas.

[+] -5 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

I'm sure they aren't. They weren't happy with the banking regs having gotten watered down either.

there was a national retailers association running ads begging for stronger measures from Congress.

All of this hurts their industry.

[+] -5 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

Nobody is except for the big multinational banks. It blows my mind the number of industries and more specifically local small to medium businesses that were harmed through out this.

[+] -5 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

throw in the rising cost of fuel - and how that percolates throughout the economy driving up the prices of everything -

and Goldman Sux I've found is invested in the fossil fuel industry - I'll bet all of them are.

for now.

[+] -5 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

Yep. Not good.

Quite an article. I believe as long as we can reach out to each other in common good cause, that we will continue to grow and we will make a difference for the good of our country for the good of our people. All of our people.

[+] -6 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

I agree. I thought it was a beautiful article and a good reminder in the face of all of this opposition that nobody has forgotten about OWS.

[+] -6 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

You know, this site has a lot more people looking to work together than it might seem. It is just with all of the attackers that it can seem to be more hostile than it really is. ( if that makes any sense )

But I believe that because we are making progress, that that is the reason attacks are being engineered to look like disunity.

Anyway, we move on.

Again - Quite an article.

Quite an article. I believe as long as we can reach out to each other in common good cause, that we will continue to grow and we will make a difference for the good of our country for the good of our people. All of our people.

We should all reach out to other organizations that share some or all of our common concerns, like the Sierra Club, the Independent movement, the Green movement, AARP, Etc. etc.

Add a group that you are aware of. Lets become aware of each other and of each-others common interests/issues. Combining we grow incredibly huge and powerful.

Let the "People" unite.

Help the "People" unite.
