Don't let this turn into a union battle for better wages for the middle class...OWS is not a union, and it doesn't represent only the middle class.

The easiest way to divide the FOR and AGAINST camps is down the lines of who owns the private central banks of the world and the people who work for those owners, vs the rest of us.

Who does it represent? Define 99%?

99% as measured by income? Wealth? Tax contribution (um...)

Define pls.

according to http://sociology.ucsc.edu/whorulesamerica/power/wealth.html

in 2007 the top %1 own 34.6% of the total national wealth with the bottom 80% owning 15% of the wealth

if 15% of the top wealth were transfered to the bottom 80% of the population, the bottom 80% would have twice the money they have now while the rich would still be rich

this concentration of wealth has remove money from the system

[-] -1 points by glooskap (64) 12 years ago

So...give you that 15% transfer and we can all go home? Knew it was all about money. You say money corrupts but boil it down and its ALL you want. Youre all greedy. Only diff between the 99 and the 1 is who has what. Hasnt changed for 1000s of years and wont change after ur starbucks cups and Patchouli oil flasks are picked up by the workers my taxes pay for.

Greedy? Well you sure are dense,. people have seen all they need to see, the current system is not working for the majority of people. 1% control way too much and sht on those with less power,. the crimes of the 1% are clear to anyone who does not count themselves in that 1% or who want to be near or in that elite level of wealth, power, and control. Clearly your problem, and I am sure you are not even close to the 1%! You are just a wannabe. thinking you are living in the big house while you just work for the man,. . good for you,, keep the masters happy,. perhaps they will adopt you as a pet.

Where to begin, let me see. I am not in the 1% and I disagree with you claiming to represent the 99%. My life is decent, but to get here I had to sacrifice. For 4 years my family had a single income, mine. It paid the bills and that is all. It also paid to put my wife through the University of Georgia and start my oldest daughter in college. in-state college. For 4 years I worked overtime and took no vacations. I did without a lot of desires. My cell phone plan is just that, a phone, no data as i do not see the need for it and rally cannot justify the expense for 4 people in the house. Now my wife is working and we doubled our income overnight (she has an accounting degree, not some useless liberal arts crap). Now you clowns want to make things "equal" and "fair". My suggestion to you is to actually work for it. sacrifice for it, EARN it. Life is full of choices and if what you are doing costs you an opportunity down the road, something you really wanted, then take a moment, look in the mirror and spit on yourself dor your stupidity. Your group represents only a single digit percent of whiners, cry babies, and slackers. My question to you is What do you want to be when you grow up? nothing is free, NOTHING!! You are responsible for your life and do not expect to be taken care of by anyone else. You are owed NOTHING!

[-] 1 points by jph (2652) 12 years ago

dude, we are all born naked,. with some people already claiming to own all the land, trees, oil, etc. they control this claim through force, using police and military. You are apparently fine with this,. and think we should all simply "work hard", like you did,. so impressive.

Guess what? We ALL work hard, life is not easy,. but when some are cheating the system,. manipulating law and government,. starting wars and even using natural disasters to pilfer from the rest of us,. using a corrupted monetary/banking system to plunder our retirement funds,. we take offence,. get used to it. we are many.

Most sane post of 3 weeks worth.

[-] -1 points by glooskap (64) 12 years ago

Name the crimes of the 1%, without generalizing please.

[-] 1 points by Lifestream (85) from Milan, IL 12 years ago

The lower and middle classes. The union sympathizes with us because they're being affected just like us, the economy is shit, etc, sure that is all well and good. But the bigger problem is the economic system itself and we cannot forget the lower class that make up the greatest percent of that 99%. The starving people of the world who are dying because they have no money to afford anything, or the pollution caused by our continuous tyrannical industrialization of offshore locations for money and resources.(Oil and the like). The middle class is shrinking because the distribution of wealth is becoming increasingly one side. Human labor is being replaced by machines causing technological unemployment, the majority of human employment now is in the services and monetary sectors, including wall street, the embodiment of waste. Whole point of this movement.

[-] 1 points by Peter1 (55) 12 years ago

Exactly! Fight the machines! It's us or them.

[-] 1 points by Lifestream (85) from Milan, IL 12 years ago

That was definitely not the point of what I said, do you see any banners down there that even allude to fighting of technology? In fact, it is the progress itself of technology, which is increasing at an exponential rate, that will enable us to break free of this traditional capitalist system. Because, like I just said, machines are quickly replacing human bodies where machines are much more efficient, so attack machines? No, they are much cheaper because we do not have to pay them for the work they do, nor do we have to worry about efficiency. Who do we attack then? Who is corrupt?..You guessed it! The Federal Reserve and their baby, wall street.
