originated in the 1970s from a radical group whose ideology was to push their agenda by any means up to and including violence.

The dumbed down Internet generation thinks history is boring and hence are repeating it.

The Black Panther Party originated the clenched fist with a black glove for modern times. Most notably a Black activist did this upon receiving the gold medal at the 1972(?) Olympics.

Prior to that it has been used in most populist movement in history with greater or lesser significance. Angry people have always gathered in crowds and raised clenched fists to express their anger. It is almost a natural group reflex to provocation.

You're not so good with history, yourself.

Assyrian depictions of the goddess Ishtar show her raising a clenched fist.[3] A raised fist was used as a logo by the Industrial Workers of the World[4] in 1917. The graphic symbol was popularized in 1948 by Taller de Gráfica Popular, a print shop in Mexico that used art to advance revolutionary social causes.[5] The symbol has been picked up and incorporated around the world by various groups fighting oppression.

Is this your grand retort? Wikipedia? You do realise it is edited by everyone, so any negative connotations are typically removed (or in some cases postured towards a political point of view).

Yes I know what the word "wiki" means. Does that somehow change the fact that the fist has been a popular solidarity symbol since long before the 1970s? I wouldn't have corrected you if you hadn't asserted that you know where that symbol came from and other people don't. You made yourself look kind of silly by demonstrating ignorance in the process of ridiculing other peoples' ignorance.

"The raised fist (also known as the clenched fist) is a symbol of solidarity and support. It is also used as a salute to express unity, strength, defiance, or resistance. The salute dates back to ancient Assyria as a symbol of resistance in the face of violence." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raised_fist

Ancient Assyria was a tad older than america in the 1970s.

The raised fist (also known as the clenched fist) is a salute and logo most often used by left-wing activists, such as: Marxists, anarchists, socialists, communists, pacifists, trade unionists, and black nationalists.

It is a symbol of fisting. Preferably in groups. People would form a daisy chain of everyone fisting the person to their right. So the right would really get it you know where. I

Very true. They are repeating the same failures that have happened throughout history.
