Since hearing about the general strike I have been for it, against it, and neutral. The strike appears to have no goal. There are no specific demands. So what will it accomplish?

Some Occupy groups plan to block certain roads and bridges. This I am completely opposed to. People will be angry and blame the entire Occupy movement for the actions of a few, alienating the very people we so desperately need to build a large and cohesive movement. Our goal is to not block anyone's progress, but to make progress by challenging their thinking on why we strike and why we matter.

Now the part of the strike I do favor is this. Instead of blocking, we withdraw from commerce by not supporting or contributing to it. When someone goes to a store and finds the doors locked, it will finally occur to them that the large portion of socalled unskilled workers are the very ones who keep the doors of commerce open. Our contribution to society, so long undervalued, might finally be seen as something worthy. That is the progress we desire.
