Many on this site refuse to ever discuss the GOP, they want to do nothing but complain about the Democrats, but I have discovered the the GOP does in fact exist, so question;

Should OWS discuss and or care about the actions of the GOP or should the Dems be the focus of our efforts?

Here's proof of the GOP's existence:

The two parties merged on 1/20/91.And why should they have not done so? Both parties were representatives of the business community. The result of their merger is one big party that looks out for the best interests of Corporations. The absorption of the Democratic Party by the Republicans was merely the throwing under the bus of Mom&Pop and mid-level income workers,AKA the Middle Class. There has not been a populist party in the US since the 1870's Grange Movement,The Democrats have never represented anything but a centrist business party that contained Reformist elements. At this point the function is that of the Good Cop in a Good Cop/Bad Cop scenario.Neither of them is trustworthy or deserving of any attention or discussion at all, with very few exceptions-the most prominent being Dennis J.Kucinich, who no longer holds elective office. The GOP is gonna do what it is gonna do.The so-called "Democrat" wing has not,and will not stop them from doing what they want to do for their constituents-the Corporations.

ahh trashy, another who finds no difference in W Bush and Al Gore, how insightful you must be clearly Gore would have drilled for oil in the Alaska refuge, or do such things not really matter? you bunch are a hoot, you focus like a laser on minutiae while ignoring things like minimum wage and burning the planet up. In the end you do then admit that your actions help put the GOP in office whether you think the actions of the two parties are the same or not your thoughts do not start wars or write laws the people in office do and so it is not only appropriate but necessary to call to task those that would work to put the GOP in office as you do.

Perhaps if the election you speak of hadn't been so close, and easy to "steal" for the right wing of The Party. The Al Gore would have won-a well meaning rich person who would still not be allowed by his Masters to do anything like what is needed to deal with climate change. Why are you blaming me for Al Gore's failure to win over independents? As I recall,I voted for the Democrats that time, and my vote was caged by the locals as it is in almost every election, because I am a registered Democrat.Al Gore lost the Independents because he is a Loser. That was his job at the time.Whether he is a Loser at his current job,I have no idea.He could have won the Independent vote and didn't.This is not the fault of Ralph Nader or progressive independent voters. It is the fault of the Democrats and Al Gore.Democrats are the Designated Losers, unless it's the Republican's turn. All the democrats do is delay the Inevitable-insane,evil right wing fascists in all positions of power. Some Democrats do a pretty good job of being insane, evil fascists themselves.Like Hillary, for example.

the al gore story is about the loss of faith in secret voting

There is no way to calculate all that was lost in that go-round.More than just an election,MattHolck. It almost seems like the last Nail in the Coffin of Liberty.

we could all vote in public

Some say paper ballots, marked with a #2 pencil. What really bothers me is how the SCOTUS ordered Florida to stop counting votes and declared Bush the "winner"

If only the 100,000 idiots that voted for Nader in Florida had wanted to do something with their votes besides feed a whore's ego. Damn shame if they had we would zero debt now and austerity wouldn't be shoved down our throats, oh and we might even have actually started addressing climate change.

I do not agree. The debacle is owned by the Democrats because they got bushwhacked by a Mental Retard.

[-] -3 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

True, Nader would have to be a mental retrad not to be able to see a difference between Al Gore and W Bush.

And yet the amount of Democrats who voted for Bush is a much larger number than that.

Ironic.

Idiots like you doing the same damn thing over and over will be the Jeb of us. oh and so is the number of Republicans that voted for Gore.

There is no doubt for those that live in reality that had Nader kept his name off the ballot in Fl. W Bush would have never been President and there would never have been an Iraq War, truth deniers are like holocaust deniers.

It did one thing it killed the Greens forever no one with a lick of sense will ever vote for a Green again, that's why when the stink of the Greens spread through the camps OWS pretty much died.

It is also the story of how an ego whore led five million down a rabbit hole.

100,000 voted for the whore in Florida it didn't need to be close at all.

[-] -3 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

let's see why was it close? oh yeah the ego whore Nader couldn't find a difference that's right, I love it when people who didn't do a damn thing to help blame the people who did when the effort fails, you and your kind work to elect the GOP that is how W Bush got into the White House and today you work to help his brother.
