Forum Post: The Farm Bill: Ah, a good chance for our newly-elected 'fearless leaders' to step up to the plate.

Let's pause and reflect:

Commodities are now traded on Wall Street.

Wall Street = the only thing DC cares about nowadays, apparently. Well, that and war-mongering.

The Farm Bill = lower commodity prices (supposedly).

Hmmm, I'm having a tough time calling this one. Help me out guys. I am feeling kind of hungry, though.

Well supposedly there has been some change re reducing the subsidies to BIG agribusiness. I'm not sure they have gone into effect. Just like every other business segment the agribusiness and been rigged for the big boys. I doubt that it is completely fixed but somebody else probably knows more.

Reducing subsidies sounds like a good idea, but I have a suspicion it would be like reducing subsidies for Big Oil. They'll probably pass it on in the form of higher prices. It makes for good headlines though. As far as being rigged, oh yeah, just like all big biz, it seems.

The rationale for all of this was cheap food. Cheap food helps everybody become obese. When fat was identified as an issue in heart disease, the food industry substituted corn sugar or syrup to improve the taste so we would eat plenty of it.

Will they pass the cost on to consumers? Sure! They pass on costs that are totally imaginary, so the cost of not getting a subsidy? Absolutely!

I'm starting to think some of the people at the top are truly evil. If evil's not the right word, psychotic probably fits the bill.

Or bought and paid for?

[-] 0 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Or both? Or, . . . all the above. My money's on that one.

Now that we have bought a little time, we need to get busy fixing things because there are a lot of things that need fixing.

Yes there are. Things big and small. I'm trying to do my small part close to home. Getting the message out, not being a blind consumer, buying used, fixing instead of replacing, boycotting a couple dozen businesses, etc. I'm trying to figure out ways to do more with my limited resources and lack of mobility (vehicle and money issues).

I would agree with everything you are doing while keeping your eyes open for additional opportunities.

Which is something we all should do, of course. I've starting signing some online petitions as well. I resisted for a while since I'm rabidly private about giving out info online but figured, what the hell. Being on this forum pretty much put us in the spotlight anyway so I figured, what the hell. Might as well make my positions known. Make a stand, I guess.

Yup!

Great thing about all this is that in uncertain times, commodities are a good bet. Which raises costs of our basics, which in turn screws the economy, which in turn leads to more people investing in commodities....on and on and on.

Securities and Commodities Exchange- another brilliant Clinton/Bush move. Thanks guys. That "service economy" thing is really working out....

A while back I googled "Clinton Bush photos." Hell, they looked more like gay lovers than political rivals. If those photos don't convince you both sides are in bed together nothing will.

LOL! You do have a way of cutting to the chase G! Maybe they like to keep it all in the 'family'.

Hey, 'L'

Heheheh. Check 'em out and tell me what you think! They are supposed to be related somewhere along the line, aren't they? Inbreeding could go a long way toward explaining 'Dubya.' now that I think about it.

Haven't checked out your links from the other night yet, sadly. An "unforeseen circumstance" did indeed rear its ugly head (computer issues again). Will try tonight.

[-] 1 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

Will do. The links are pretty wild...interested in your interpretation, but no hurry. We all get busy and such!

[-] -1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Personally, I don't know how you find the time. :-)

[-] 1 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

I don't any more really. :(

Life beckons. I just pop in to cheer-on once in a while. But its all good!

[-] 0 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Just make sure you keep popping in once in a while. Some of us would miss you if you stopped. Others, not so much (where's he been lately?), but they don't count, heheheh.

Thanks, that's nice. About 3 weeks ago, I gave him a good 'thrashing', and I never heard or saw him again. His leaving has nothing to do with me...but it sure has been nice with him gone. Although...there have been a few characters that are suspicious. I won't say who though, since I don't know for sure.

Now see what you went and did? You know damn well unanswered questions bother me more than that pea under the princess' matt . . . . wait, than analogy sucked. Lemme try again:

You know damn well unanswered questions bother me more than that thorn in the lion's paw (yeah, that's more like it), so now you gotta tell me. TELL ME. TELL ME!

[-] 2 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

LOL!! Later, in a PM.

[-] -1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

That's what I was thinkin'. I'll give you my opinion.

The Farm Bill is a big deal. It's done every 5 years. I was surprised that not much attention was given to it this year.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

The fact that they decided not to do anything about it until after the election tells us they don't give a shit about the people.
