Forum Post: The Birth Control Fight

So, let me get this straight. Conservatives are now intent on restricting a woman’s freedom to choose Birth Control? At the same time as they more actively limit a woman’s right to an Abortion? So, in a Republican Paradise if a woman conceives she must carry the Child to term, with no exceptions! What is this some kind of Conservative Master Plan to Compete with China in producing a population explosion??

Now, I am absolutely sure that the Rich white kids produced will be able to go to a good white school, see a good white doctor, take over a successful white business, and dream about getting Richer. But, what are we going to do with all the poor kids we produce? After all, in a Conservative Paradise, there will be Government Health Care, no Public Schools, no Workers Rights, and certainly no ladder to reach the American Dream. So, what are we going to do with all those Poor kids?

Are we going to have enough vouchers to send poor kids to a good White Private School? Who’s going to pay for all those Sick Poor kids who show up at our Emergency Rooms to see a Doctor? Shoot, in Conservative Paradise will there even be any Emergency Rooms for poor kids that are not White only? And, what about jobs? Will the conservative Job creators provide enough minimum wage jobs to put all; those Poor, Uneducated, Sickly kids to work Flipping burgers? Or, are we going to use them as Cannon Fodder for some future Holy War with Buddhists? Is that the Brilliant Conservative Master Plan???

Not for nothing, but I’m starting to believe in Alien Abductions. How else can someone explain what passes for leadership in the Conservative movement? Are they children from another planet, or something? I know they look human, but what about that unblinking stare they all have? How about that Wire in Rush’s head, is that a control device? Does he get his marching orders over that little control wire??? What’s The Plan the for the Earth kids Cons?

I have been saying this for years - and with NO ONE else echoing it,
maybe I'm wrong-
The Rs know that any real American problems -
such as schools, environment, infrastructure, jobs etc means spending BIG money which
means raising taxes on the rich
SO
the issue is NOT
abortion
patriotism
voer id
women's healthcare
flag burning
NEA
planned parenthood
acorn
PBS
birth control
the isuue is - WHAT CAN WE BOG DOWN GOVERNMENT WITH
so we don't have to rise taxes to solve the real problem
that wouldn't make grover happy
and above all else, we must keep grover happy

Thank you!

20% of GDP is just not enough!

http://nationalpriorities.org/resources/federal-budget-101/charts/general/federal-outlays-and-revenues-1930-2015-perc-gdp/

It's not like there is a limited supply of money, because we can print more! The rich just don't want people to have what is rightfully theirs-their money! It's not like 40% of federal taxes are collected from the 1% or anything!

Where did you get all these ideas you list. None of it ti true.

Nowhere did I see that conservatives are restricting a woman’s freedom to choose Birth Control. Where did you come up with that idea?

No public schools? So government healthcare?

Medicaid pays for the poor sick kids at out emergency rooms.

Next you will tell us conservatives want to exterminate kittens!

Joe, Joe, Joe! Stop! You're scaring me.

If you can't see the logical conclusion of the Conservative Party's Policies, you just haven't taken the time to Connect the Dots. Have you been Home Schooled, and can't add 2+2 and consistently come up with 4?

Look, destroying Planned Parenthood restricts a woman's right to choose Birth Control. New Laws are being proposed to make it legal for an employer to fire a woman over Birth Control. What's next?

Every Republican Governor in America is attacking Public Education. How do you think that will turn out?

Every Republican wants to repeal Obama Care. What do you think they will replace it with? Vouchers???

Medicaid pays for really Poor Kids, kids with parents who work at Mc Donald's don't qualify. And Conservatives want to End Medicaid as we know it. I think it’s valid to conclude that there won't be any Emergency Rooms left.

What do you think is going to happen? Who's going to pay for all those Poor Sick Kids visiting Emergency rooms to see a doctor? The Oil Companies? I don't think so.

If Kittens could ask for Food Stamps you’d want them exterminated, and we would be overby Rats! It's the law of unintended consequences.

Like Murphy’s Law. “Anything that can go wrong will!” Republican’s cut taxes on the rich knowing that the Economy Could Tank and it did. See what I’m saying. 2+2 =…. Oh well what’s the use.

No one is taking a woman's right to chose birth control. That is a lie. Condoms cost $0.50 and others are $10/month which is less than a carton of cigarettes.

Private education does a better job in areas where public schools are failing. Why would you want to deprive children and parents of the opportunity to chose.

Obamacre has increased the cost of healthcare. There were and are many better options to ensuring healthcare for the poor. My father used to have a quarterly test in the doctors office. Now it is required to happen in the hospital at three times the cost. He also used to give a drop of blood for another test in the office. Now it's a test tube sent to the lab at five times the cost. The Dr said you only need a drop so it is silly. What happened is the drug companies, hospitals, and testing labs wrote the 2,300 pages of Obamacare and made sure they soaked up our tax dollars.

Paul Ryan's plan is not to eliminate Medicaid but rather to restructure it to block grants to the states and eliminate federal bureaucracy. He also wants to fix another problem. Also Social Security and Medicare are protected by keeping the money in a separate pool where Medicaid is not. You also have to remember that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid make up 42% of the federal budget and are running out of funding as we are living longer than ever. The average lifespan when these programs were created was 58.7 and it is now 78.4. We have to bring the costs down.

There was a time when children took care of their parents. Now they want to drop them off at a government run nursing home.

So as for 2+2=4, you hit the nail on the head. Math is the reason we have to balance the budget.

Here is the Federal Deficit in BILLIONS

  1. 2003 -377.6
  2. 2004 -412.7
  3. 2005 -318.3
  4. 2006 -248.2
  5. 2007 -160.7
  6. 2008 -458.6
  7. 2009 -1,412.7
  8. 2010 -1,293.5
  9. 2011 -1,645.1
  10. 2012 -1,101.2

Something happened in 2009 to make it more than triple but I am not sure what.

I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious nourishing and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricasie, or a ragoust.

Aha! I thought so!

The Conservative Holy Book of ALEC, IS A COOK BOOK!

I wonder if Swift would change one single word were he alive today.

[-] 1 points by April (3196) 12 years ago

lol. I have no doubt Wall Street will be trading those babies. They'll create a whole new market for infant and baby speculation. Futures, options, the whole nine yards!

Dodd Frank rules will never be written and/or enforced. Most of the Wall Street lawsuits fighting it back will be successful. Next thing ya know, the Baby Bubble will burst and we'll be right back here again in 30 years or so.

[-] 2 points by epa1nter (4650) from Rutherford, NJ 12 years ago

April, have you read "A Modest Proposal" all the way through? It really goes through the whole buying and selling thing thoroughly. Everything being talked about on this thread was covered. That it was written so long ago, and skewers what is happening today so accurately is amazing. And can you believe it, Swift actually served in Parliament! Imagine if we had someone like that today in Congress. It would be a different world.

Unfortunately, the NeoCons didn't understand that Swift was writing ironically, and they have seemingly taken his tome to be a blueprint for action.

[-] 1 points by April (3196) 12 years ago

I've read it now. You (and Swift) nailed it.

Support babies being born to those who don't want them or can not afford to raise them. Once out of the womb they are on their own and consider a burden to society.......makes a lot sense.

[-] 1 points by bensdad (8977) 12 years ago

FYI- charter schools have had spectacular success!

as long as they had the right to exclude the more difficult students. BUT even when they had to accept any students, and the charter school
performance fell to below average - they still benefited
........................................................................................THEY MADE A PROFIT just like privatizing the army-
why pay a soldier $20,000/year and give him a good pension
[ money to people ] when a corporation can hire a mercenary for $50,000, with no pension, sell him to the army for $90,000 and make a corporate profit of $40,000
[ money to the corporate elite ]
privatize the prisons.................

a bit OT - all those extra kids??? soylen green

[-] 1 points by April (3196) 12 years ago

That's about it. I would just add, the Republicans are all about government intrusion in so far as they can impose and legislate their ideas about morality. Beyond that, I think they would eliminate all rules, regulations and entire government departments. Except Defense, of course.

Except Defense, of course.

Defense? You mean military, don't you?

[-] 1 points by engineer4 (331) 12 years ago

Why are you writing this as a black / white issue? Birth control has nothing to do with race. There are poor whites, blacks, native Americans, etc. Your writing style is unnecessarily inflammatory. Focus on the equality of access instead.

[-] 1 points by lgarz (287) from New York, NY 12 years ago

If you look, I mentioned Rich White Schools, and the Advantages Rich White Kids will continue to have. I never mention Black Kids anywhere that is an assumption you made.

In a future Republican Paradise, given their racial rhetoric, I can only conclude that there will be no Rich Black Folks in America, Period. I also think that there will be no Rich Latinos, and no Rich Asians, just some Rich White folks, and Poor Folks. I am just following the logical next steps.

The truth hurts sometiimes, throwing off you chains often does. I don't feel constrained by civility when the other side is throwing Bombs!

Barry Goldwater said it best. Extremeism in defense of Liberty is no Vice, and Moderation in pursuit of Justice is no Virtue. the Koch Heads believe it, and so do I. Sorry.

[-] 1 points by engineer4 (331) 12 years ago

Your style of writing suggest that it is racial, instead of equality of access. How about the "poor white kids"? Your assumption is that only whites have wealth or means of access. There are plenty of wealthy members in all races. Your post is very exclusionary with whites and then everyone else. How else would one interpret that? Not sure what are Koch heads? I do not find the racial rhetoric in the republican party as you seem to. ( there are extremists fringes). What I do find is in the democratic party they seem to like the status-quo as far as what happens in the cities, as long as they get the votes.

You are about the most clueless person to comment on the birth control issue yet. There is no debate. It is a false controversy designed to gain women voters for Obama. No one is being oppressed. You are an idiot.

[-] 1 points by lgarz (287) from New York, NY 12 years ago

Ok, but what are you going to do with all the poor kids produced when woman have no access to Birth control?

Am I an idiot to think that Babies will be born to Poor women with no access to birth control? Are you serious?

I said nothing about anybody being oppressed, that's figment of your conservative imagination. and a lame attempt to change the subject.

Why can't you just answer the question!

Miller sums up the conservative view pretty well:

We are not restricting any woman from getting birth control but we do not want to pay for it either, duh

[-] 1 points by lgarz (287) from New York, NY 12 years ago

And, what if you aint paying for Crap! It's Health Insurance Coverage! How does any of that take a nickle out of your pocket! What, you think you carry the entire Tax burden on your shoulders! Be real! You aint paying for crap, and nobody is asking you too! It's a bogus argument.

You Koch Heads will believe any Lame Excuse that Rush can dream up for not doing the right thing by your Fellow Americans. It's pathetic.

[-] 0 points by onetime (-67) 12 years ago

You start buying birth control for millions of women and it is going to add up really quick. The solution is for them to get their asses out and get a job and pay for it their selves

[-] 1 points by lgarz (287) from New York, NY 12 years ago

You aint paying for nobody's birth Control but your own! It's a Lie! don't you get it?
