Success is understanding that your happiness is tied to the happiness of others.

very well put, I wholeheartedly agree.

Success is a constitutional government that does not try to turn the people into slaves.

Hear, hear.

Creating a society in which we all can have a decent life, that´s the biggest success there is :)

That is and has been the American dream. Listen to a speech from the 50s and listen to one today where the term has been used in both. Take notice of the context. The perversion of ideas is routine in corruption.

The backriders do better when the working class do better.

[-] 1 points by flip (7101) 12 years ago

huh?

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

The capitalists that exploit the working man for profit do better when the working man does better. It's not that difficult.

What is Society and what do we expect as members? Does Society have a responsibility to provide for everyone a reasonable standard of living, see FDR 4 Freedoms, or is there no collective responsibility? Does great wealth concentrated in the hands of a very few harm society? Democracy is subject to the influence of money. So do we have a responsibility to ensure that this influence is moderated? What say YOU

So, what is quality of life? Did people have it during the 1700s? Were they happier over all? How does quality of life decrease as technology changes? Could a person live comfortably, happily, and inexpensively the same way that people lived during the 1700s? Why is this not a viable option? So many questions.

[-] 1 points by freewriterguy (882) 12 years ago

You people are talking like how i think. On the one hand, I complain about the inbalance of wealth and how I am enslaved to pay for my bills paycheck to paycheck. on the other hand, I look at the lifestyle and am i willing to give it up to live off the land to be free? No more HDTV or xbox, or pepsi-cola

[-] 2 points by craigdangit (326) 12 years ago

The fact of the matter is, labor is required to provide you with your Xbox and Pepsi. If you want those things, you need to produce labor credits (money) in order to pay the people who worked so you can have them. If you don't want them, that is your choice. I live somewhat off the land and I am extremely happy. I work occasionally to produce the things I can't do for myself, such as this computer I am using to discuss it with you.

Quality of life is a measurement we should allreceive equally.

[-] 1 points by craigdangit (326) 12 years ago

How is quality of life measured, though? That is what I am getting at. True quality of life is not measured by material means, (And surely not based on what other people have!) or one would have a sorry life no matter what. Can a person be happy living like someone did in the 1700s now? If not, why not? Because other people don't?

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

Well than, I support equal pay do you?

Many argue without material wealth there is no incentive.

I think a certain amount is needed to fulfill that contentment need. Even if you live off the land you would be concerned about having enough harvest tol next season.

When I look at 7 billion people and see how many have so much wealth while others do nor have clean drinking water. I say there is a problem. At this point no we don't need more technology. We can purify water.

To say you are Extremely happy. But I must ask how does world poverty not affect your happiness !

[-] 1 points by craigdangit (326) 12 years ago

It doesn't affect theirs. I have supported monetarily organizations that provide such drinking water supplies to the third world. When you see people in these conditions, they are rarely dejected. Often they are happy and content. This of course does not mean they don't deserve better, or that we shouldn't help them, but people can be and have been happy in some of the worst and most despicable conditions in the world. I have Jesus in my life, and not a whole lot bothers me. I still work for change. I still see suffering and problems, I am not oblivious to them. But no matter how bad of a shape I am in physically, it really doesn't matter on the scope of things. There will always be mean people who hate us. Some of them will have more things than we do. But there is not a lot we can do, except for working for ourselves. Let good win out, people will step up to the plate, like they do in Mississippi, the most charitable state in the country.

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

Well , the organizations that do help and all the people involved. I salute your kind hearts.

When good things get invented, that all people should have, like cable TV, they become universal rights that should not just be enjoyed by a few.

[-] 1 points by craigdangit (326) 12 years ago

Ah, got it. So something is not a right until someone else has it. Thanks.

The American Dream is purely economic in origin; you would prefer otherwise yet are incapable of reprogramming the human race to prefer, for example, rent to ownership. Etc. There are no alternatives to basic human need.

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

Rules and regulations are man made. There is no reason why we can't set something up where everyone has clean drinking water.

[-] -3 points by Unwashed (-141) 12 years ago

Great. You pursue your dream. Every time you encounter someone with less than you, give them yours for no reason other than to create "equality". LOL. You're really an idiot.

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

And every time I encounter someone with more than me should I take it from them. It only seems fair according to your suggestions

[-] -3 points by Unwashed (-141) 12 years ago

Well, that's typically what "equality" touting leftists have in mind, I know. LOL.

This is tough, so think hard. Giving is different than taking. You have the freedom to give all you'd like, but taking it stealing. Bounce it off someone at the home, they'll agree.

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

But if they have more, did they take it fairly ?

[-] 1 points by Unwashed (-141) 12 years ago

Psst, here's a secret: You can earn things. Try it out, it works.

[-] 2 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

Did Romney really earn 23 million? He must have worked 5000 hours per day !

it wouldnt hurt to give to someone who has need though. After all it is a minority of people who are hoarding the earth. When we look at the fruit tree does it make enough fruit for one man or for many? Or does the fruit say I am to sustain this one man only, so that others may perish? It is simpler to understand in this context for it reveals the idiocracy that we live in today.

Another example, our government has gone nearly bankrupt to save rich bankers, and now that tornados are destroying towns across the middle & southern plains, it will be interesting to see if they will print money to save them, or if they will let the money run out.

[-] 2 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

And fruit trees receive equal sunshine. Fruit trees are very kind.
