100% CLEAN SWEEP.

Replace 100% of the House and 33% of the Senate. COMPLETELY.

No INCUMBENTS!

If we are truly a significant majority, then it is within our power to vote in a complete (!) NEW slate of House members in the next election, and 1/3 of the Senate.

Do you think the remaining 2/3 of the Senate will get the message?

Can you imagine the wealth of choices you will have running for the House and Senate, once the message is clear that the incumbents are gone?

It doesn't matter Republican, Democrat, Independent or whatever, just vote for whom you believe is the best choice, BUT DO NOT VOTE FOR THE INCUMBENT. With a majority of votes, it doesn't matter if we split on 4 candidates for the same seat, the Incumbent will still not receive enough votes to win.

Send the message. Enough is enough. No more PAC's. No more back room private deals. No more corporate advocacy.

No more nonsense!!!

100% CLEAN SWEEP. The 99% SOLUTION!

You heard it first here - Robert Dudley

I love this solution, with the way the Governments going now, almost anyone else would be better. Just take a little more caution in who you vote for, these people will be running the country after all.

Why not come join the working group and express these concerns?

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/the99declaration/

Just be aware, there are many people out there who are trying to drive a wedge between OWS and this 99%declaration group. The banks and incumbent criminals would be delighted if that happened.

Serving committee's should be by rotation. So all sent serve.

Getting rid of incumbents is hard. Here's another suggestion. I would suggest one the way to fix Congress is to change the systems of incentives. People go into politics for a few reasons: 1) they love their country and think they have a better solution, (2) they love power (3) they love money.

So: 1) Link congressional pay to country performance as in:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/link-congressional-pay-to-performance/

And 2) Change the way powerful committee memberships are assigned.

I'm not sure how memberships are assigned, but I think currently these are assigned by seniority.

Instead, the People need to take back control of these assignments and hold committee members accountable when the nation does poorly. You might say, can't we just vote these poor performers out of power? Unfortunately, no, because they are voted in by some small congressional district for which they just happen to the most popular and maybe even the best candidate. The answer to this problem is not term limits because that politician may indeed be the best person for that district.

However, just because they are the best person in some small district, does not mean they are the best person for All of America, and when they are chairman of some committee, they have disproportionate influence on all Americans, not just those from their district.

We need to change congressional rules for electing committee members and chairperson to prevent failures from holding important and powerful positions. Perhaps this can be done by banning congressmen and senators from being committee members if they were at the helm when the country performs poorly.

I don't have the answer on how to achieve this. Perhaps some among you would be willing to debate the merits and propose solutions along this line.

There are good an competent people in politics as in every other job. The People need a way to keep the good ones and discard the less gifted ones. There is something to be said for expertise gained from years of experience. You yourself may have been a job for 10, or 20 years. It would be unfair, not to mention an economic loss to fire you just because your term limit is up. Chances you do the job better than other people. The same holds in politics.

[-] 1 points by vrptx (42) 12 years ago

And if they have done a good job then they will have not taken any money.

[-] 1 points by vrptx (42) 12 years ago

The crooked ones need to go, I'm sure most all are competent. Competency is not the problem. Lining pocket with Corporate money to buy a vote is the problem.

[-] 1 points by fireftr (7) 12 years ago

And how, exactly, is getting rid of incumbents hard?

IF we are a majority, and IF we all agree that Congress is a major problem as it is currently composed, then getting rid of the incumbents is trivial. Vote for a non-incumbent.

So, either we are not a majority, or we think Congress is doing a wonderful job. Which is it?

[-] 1 points by Socrates469bc (608) from New York, NY 12 years ago

The presidency is voted on by the by the whole country. But congressmen and senators by smaller districts as you know. They may be popular local heroes because they bring the pork $$ back to their districts, but if they ran for President they would never be elected.

Quote: "either we are not a majority, or we think Congress is doing a wonderful job" The answer is neither. Participation rate in elections is low. There are lots of disenchanted and disillusioned eligible voters. Sadly life is not as simple as we all wish, and as you suggest.

[-] 1 points by fireftr (7) 12 years ago

Having lived through the 60's as a hippie in Boston, life really IS that simple, if you have a movement that gains momentum. The 99% solution of Clean Sweep is that simple, IF you rally the disillusioned and get them to the polls.

Just need to believe that it can happen. Build it and they will come.

[-] 1 points by Socrates469bc (608) from New York, NY 12 years ago

You are a beacon of hope. Unfortunately I must be jaded. I don't have the strength to go rally other people. There are so many other things I need to do. The only reason I'm on this site is probably because I have something like OCD, and I just keep clicking that forum button over and over again!

[-] 1 points by daffyff (104) from Redwood City, CA 12 years ago

This movement is happening because the youth that makes up most of it are jaded byt their nation and its crooked politics. We want change, we NEED change. Voting for most of us is a waste of time, especially being that the youth are frequently out-voted by their god damn baby boomer parents.

It might work, and I will try it next election....just vote for everyone without an (i). But I don't hold much hope for it.

The Elite give us the illusion of freedom but control all of the choices. The Elite give us the choice of 500 cable stations, yet the same message comes from all of the channels. They give us aisles and aisles of food, yet 90% of it is just corn and soy byproducts. They give us the choice of hundreds of political candidates, yet nothing changes because both sides are bought and paid for by the Elite. They give you the choice of investments of stocks, bonds, and real estate but when this all goes down, you will see that it is all apart of the same illusion of the dollar. This of course is controlled by the Elite.

[-] 1 points by fireftr (7) 12 years ago

That's not a reply. That's knee-jerk.

Candidates THAT ARE NOT ELITE SPONSORED will surface if it does not take millions to run. If they think they have a chance.

[-] 1 points by skizzy (445) 12 years ago

knee-jerk ... Huh? Oh maybe just a little pissed. I think.. I might not believe the elections we currently have now are legitimate elections. Starting to look allot like a popularity contest of whores.Seems like the representatives at Federal and State are all sponsored by the elite. The oligarchy elite. The same people the run the cable news and hundreds of political candidates. I hope leaders are going to emerge from this.... The future looks very grime

[-] 1 points by daffyff (104) from Redwood City, CA 12 years ago

It's depressingly true. we need to get our shit together.

[-] 1 points by ICSPOTZ (57) from Fort Carson, CO 12 years ago

Lets get them out and not put anyone else back in. Just go live your life without any overlords.

Fuck you, you communist bastard, my friends and family have served this country to give you the freedom to protest, and all you can think of to do is sit your unemployed ass outside of the offices of people who are working a hell of a lot harder than you? You are a communist, hippie, and GDI you piece of shit. 100% proud to be the 1%

[-] 1 points by fireftr (7) 12 years ago

not sure who you are replying to, but I'll field this one. I am employed at a college where I mentor students in a Success Center and manage the computer lab. I left (folded) a 1% company to work at $13/hour to do something I believe in.

Pay if forward.

Your turn. What do you do for others, or is it just all about making money?
