Forum Post: Supporting Bringing Down a Bully

When huge corporations have run out of impoverished countries to decimate and desperately poor people to take advantage of, they set their sights on the next best thing: their own workforce. Much like the people of India from whom Coke siphoned precious clean water while polluting the remaining supply, Coke has begun taking advantage of their minorities workers. In these tough economic times, steady employment is hard to come by and everyone knows it-especially corporations like Coca-Cola. What better time then to start harassing and denigrating the most vulnerable workers? Who would complain? By and large, the economic downturn has disproportionately affected minorities. So it would stand to reason that employees of color would endure whatever abusive language and scare tactics upper management assails at them. At least, that has been the mindset of the company heretofore. Unfortunately for Coca-Cola, employees of color have decided their dignity is worth the risk of reprisal from their employer. They have decided to organize and take down their ruthless hegemony. If ever there was a place and time to join in solidarity with our fellow Americans it is here, in this fight with Coca-Cola's employees of color all across the country who have endured racial discrimination, hate speech, harassment, and intimidation tactics. Now is the time to take Coke to task for their actions! We are the people to do it!!! OWS, support the New York based employees of Coke in their suit against the corporate giant!

We really need your support on this. I find it curious that this came out on the daily news in upstate ny, but not on the ny city edition of today Saturday. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/coke-16-workers-sue-call-giant-cesspool-racial-discrimination-article-1.1041197 Conspiracy ? Who knows ? Most if the guys in the lawsuit are from ny city and the branches are either in ny city or close to the city, yet the people of ny city will not read this unless they go online or someone calls them and tells them about it. Weird.... BC

Excellent post. I hope you are a shareholder also. They are gonna wish they never had implemented that employee stock purchase program. My goal is for the public to know the truth, people need to be informed, so they can make a conscientious decision before they give their financial support, by purchasing their products, to such abusive corporation. Once again thanks. I look forward to reading more of your posts. BC

All outsourcing Business should be made to hold and operate up to the highest standard - If that higher standard is the standard of the country they outsource to so be it. If the higher standard is the standard of their home country - THEN - So Be it.

We will not make the world a better place by allowing abuse to go on by our people just because they are in someone Else's Home.

We ALL move forward - TOGETHER

That's a good solution to outsourcing, I've never heard it before.

There is no reason why we have to sit and do nothing while our jobs and standard of living are destroyed by corpoRATS. Last I heard this was still a democracy.

Corporate greed should not be allowed to spread abuse. Save money with lower pay demanded in other countries is one thing. Abusing the population and the environment to save money is something else all together. This should be stopped immediately if not sooner. What ever happened to the idea of American ambassadors? This is more like corporate terrorists.

American ambassadors (and our Generals) clearly serve the corpoRATS.

This is why the movements against corruption is a World wide phenomena.

We move forward - Together - In common Cause.

Amen. Thank you for your support. We need to set a " don't buy Coke products" week, to start sending the message to them, that we mean business. BC

Let them know in advance that it is happening - and Why it is Happening.

Useful positive communication.

We move forward taking positive action - TOGETHER

Yes ! I'm waiting till I find out what and where the next court date is, since this is going to be fought at a federal court, instead of Queens Cty court. Thanks once again. BC.

It is long past time that abusers were told to stop and clean-up their act.

Perhaps waiting is not such a good idea after all. last I heard, the scare tactics already started. many workers at the Maspeth , NY production plant have been informed that if Coke loses the lawsuit, they are going to close the doors and everyone will lose his job. So now the members of the lawsuit who are still working there are being intimidated not only by the company, but by the fellwow workers. What a disgrace. The have so much power of us that can turn us against each other with ease. What a shame. BC
