uhm.... how about we just get regents with private for profit motives out of the decision making for public universities, and disallow them to line their pockets.

AND we could stop building state of the art dorm rooms, puttin computers in every classroom, etc.

If you really want to lower costs, get the governements guarantee on the loans out of it. Then colleges have to actually look at what they are charging...

no because if the job is not paying well, the best professors will be able to get higher paying jobs else where and education will decrease even further.

Most university professors are underpaid. It's much more difficult nowadays to get a tenure. Most of my friends with PH.D. teach at universities for very little pay as part timers. One of them was approaching his tenure, then the school suddenly led him off and hired a brand new graduate. It's not like it used to be twenty years ago.
