If you were on the corner of 3rd and Pike on Valentine’s Day, you might have seen money raining down from the top of a building. But you probably didn’t understand why.

The money drop was part of a campaign to end spending at corporations in the name of love. From the organizers’ blog:

"Don’t show the ones you love how much they matter by throwing money at them, make it meaningful. Show them they matter to you more than money. Show the world how much you care about all the things that matter to you more than money."

The idea is that corporations use customers’ money to influence political policy and “buy speech,” according to the campaign’s organizers. So instead, they asked folks to literally throw their money away.

The video posted above shows people scrambling in the street to snatch up dollars stamped with the campaign’s message. (Good thing there wasn’t a bus coming.)

Here’s more about last month’s money drop (http://miccheckwallst.org/2012/01/30/valentines-day-money-drop-2-14-12/). A month late, sure. But I just came across the video on YouTube and thought it was worth sharing.
