Imagine all the stuff we could be creating if we stopped try take over the planet and just minded our own business.

That's my point genius. You're making the claim that we could invent this if we stopped fighting wars. Instead, something like this could easily be usable in a military application. Calm yourself.
The point was that we are dropping almost a trillion a year in a field dedicated to war. Yes, lots of innovation comes out of it. But so does a ton of waste and nonsense.
I dont think we need anymore military applications. We can wipe the entire planet off the map if the will was there. Like a football player fighting a little kid. Not much reason for the football player to keep doing the roids.
Medicine could be far superior if we invested the same amount into health as we did missiles.
