Forum Post: Routine Recitations

I was thinking that it would be a really good idea for the members of Occupy Wall Street to set a routine for doing certain things, such as facing an American flag and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:00 AM and PM, or perhaps even more frequently. This shows that our allegiance is to the Republic and not the corporations. They could also choose times to recite sections from the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, especially sections that have been violated in recent years or at least are in doubt.

So, things to recite: -The Pledge of Allegiance -Amendments 1, 2, 4, and 6 of the Constitution of the United States

Things to consider: -Article I Section 8 of the Constitution of the United States -Article VI of the Constitution of the United States

There must be other things they could recite. Have them printed on small flyers and passed around or something. I think it might interest people walking by when they hear this huge crowd of people reciting the Pledge of Allegiance or the First Amendment.

With thinking like that, nodalmonad, I don't think the protest needs you. We want to reform the government and get the control of it back into our own hands, out of the hands of the corporate pigs. The point of reciting the pledge of allegiance is mainly because, when you remove one of the grammatically-unnecessary clauses, you get the words, "I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE REPUBLIC," which is where our true loyalties should lie. It's only because of the United States of America was created a Republic - and its darn good constitution & bill of rights - that our right to dissent even exists, and it's only the Republic which empowers us to change the status quo.

By attacking the flag, you're attacking what it symbolizes - one unified nation which provides liberty and justice to everyone within its borders. Abstraction though it may be, it's a rigid and permanent abstraction that we know worked really well for over 100 years until eventually corporations started to spin it their way so subtly that many didn't notice until it had come to this; many still haven't. What you SHOULD be attacking is the corporate machine that would see our liberties stripped away forever, "choice" relegated to a mere illusory fantasy in a nation of passively subservient slaves working from crib to coffin. THAT is what we are trying to prevent. Directing hatred towards the flag is missing the whole point of Occupy Wall Street.

dude. fuck the flag. seriously. desecrate it. you shouldn't feel the need to pledge your allegiance to anything, especially an abstraction like a nation-state.

I agree 100%... Great idea Onihikage! I think this is a great way to show our solidarity and interest in improving the current American society.
