Forum Post: Republicans and abortion

Why didn't the Republicans ban abortion when they held the Presidency and Congress for six years? Is it because they are mostly men, so they don't really care and are just giving lip service for votes?

Yes, that's exactly it. They play the abortion card in every election because they know some GOP voters vote solely on that issue. They pick up those votes and know the whole time that abortion is the law of the land and unwinding it, just like the affordable Health Care Law, is extremely difficult and highly unlikely.

I don't know.

Why didn't you bring this up on the Heritage site?

are there a lot of nutjobs who can't breath without saying "war on women" on the Heritage site? I'll ask them

You ought to know.

How about those 900+ bills signed into law by (R)epelican'ts, limiting women's rights?

Please don't mention the word vagina there, as you may be subject to banning.

I don't think abortion has ever been an issue with Republicans, and definitely not since Roe versus Wade, which I followed rather intensely. Democrats have chosen to make the squawks of a few religious fundamentalists in southern states a fear factor which is hung to dry in the closets of the Republican. But it's just not true and it never was - they are a "decidedly" Roe versus Wade majority.

Seriously. Was there ANY abortion controversy between 2000 and 2006? According to so many hysterical liberals, you'd think they would outlawed it 8:00 am, day one and then rounded up all the abortion doctors to send them to prison camps.

Actually, there was.

Were you sleeping?

Oh yeah. we all remember how we came this close (thumb and finger almost touching) to outlawing abortion under the Bush admin/rep controlled Congress. Silly me.

You are still unaware that there are 50 states in the union?

That it's not always about national politics?

Yes, you are being silly. Nice of you to admit it.

read my original question again. it's the first thing underneath the "This content is user submitted and not an official statement" line. Make your own post about each state (or 50 posts if you want), I'm asking about when the nutjob conservative christian right republicans ran the entire country.

They still are.

So I guess you are still sleeping.

Did you pose the question at Heritage yet?

How about at blaze.com?

They'll never outlaw abortions entirely in America because the desires of women can't be contained; and illegally performed abortions are a very ugly matter. And so is legalized late term abortion. So morality and legality are separate issues and we will yield to, and appease, to the best of our ability, the voice of the female protectionist which demands the thoroughly researched Roe vs Wade.
