Forum Post: Report: U.S. Increasing Nuclear Arsenal, Despite Promises

The Obama administration is increasing the U.S. nuclear arsenal despite President Obama’s public championing of disarmament. When Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008, the Nobel committee cited his steps toward reducing nuclear stocks around the world. But The New York Times reports Obama is overseeing extensive rebuilding of nuclear weapons at home, including at a new plant in Kansas City, dedicated last month, which is larger than the Pentagon and employs thousands of people. According to a recent federal study, the United is poised to spend up to $1.1 trillion over the next three decades on modernizing nuclear weapons.

Very, very sad.

Can't help but think of this great song, "Before the Deluge." Listen closely to the lyrics. No Nukes!

Wow, have Americans become apathetic, so very pathetic.

he is the man! one of the few who was willing to risk a great career by telling the truth. and he did pay a price - you are right - so very pathetic

[-] 2 points by beautifulworld (23772) 9 years ago

Seems everyone who truly stands up for something pays a price in this country.

fdr stood up and said "I welcome their hatred!" we need someone who is not afraid of being hated by the ruling class. let me change that somewhat - we need to scare the ruling class so much that some of them stand up and say "I am going to save capitalism from the Koch bros etc". that would be a first step then maybe we could push them out the door. we need a first step

[-] 4 points by beautifulworld (23772) 9 years ago

A first step would be to stop considering the Democrats to be the saviors as some people do here.

[-] 3 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 9 years ago

ok... from strickly mathematical or logical point of view...

1 the Dems ARE NOT saviors .... if they were... we would have no problems !! :)

2 the mass majority of the gop/tparty ... have been bought and controlled by Big Biz... that has ZERO interest in helping any of us ... (the People) ...

3 many... if not most .... of the Dems have also been bought and controlled by Big Biz...

so....

from simple logic.... our mission should be to ...

1 ... Identify ... whose is Bought & Controlled ....

2 ... Make Sure that they do not get re-elected ... regardless of what party they belong too....

too simple ... we must not allow ourselves to get distracted in the divide & conquer game ....

We need to organize against any and all who are on the take....

We Need to Promote INDEPENDENCE from Political Affiliation ....

We need a NON-PARTY PARTY !!! ... an "INTEGRITY JUBILEE" ... Movement & Action

[-] 4 points by beautifulworld (23772) 9 years ago

Exactly right. We need real democracy where our votes matter and where we can vote for whoever we want. We need more than two choices.

We need more than two choices.

I disagree. Changing actors will make next to no difference. The problem is the system.

[-] 1 points by flip (7101) 9 years ago

boy did you hit that nail square - very annoying - ows - brought to you by RADICALS! what is so hard to understand. one of the little nerds wrote to me and said his main focus was income inequality and since i seemed to be anti war along with a number of other issues but he did not seem to get that idea) i should start another site. like ows should not stand against war - can one be more stupid?

[-] 4 points by beautifulworld (23772) 9 years ago

Um. The military industrial complex and friends cause poverty around the world. So, if you're against income inequality ya might wanna think about the corporations making money off of war and exploiting the people of this good earth.

And, I don't mean, you, flip. I know you get it.

You might want to take some responsibility for your actions too, like flip has when he admitted his work helps to elect Republicans.

[-] 3 points by beautifulworld (23772) 9 years ago

You might want to study political science or political economy a little bit before making your verbal assaults on people. You really lack an understanding of left and right politics. It's okay. It's not your fault, but please, study up.

Well now as I recall, W Bush was made President in part through efforts of folks like you, you and your kind help the GOP win whenever they can.

Of course the real evil contained in your actions spring from the ego driven opportunistic political hackery you do on the site attempting to draw from the energy of OWS to feed your ego driven dreams.

Of course like any political hack you don't care what happens you only care if your party is benefited, so when W is elected your accept that as a necessary cost of building your dream party, that is a cost I do not believe we can afford.

How am I doing so far?

[-] -2 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

The Republicans do so much better right? Or do you live in crazy land where people polling 5% win? You and flip are just too lazy to do the hard work you want to be made Kings so you can just dictate to people how the world should be, you care nothing for what is or how it might be made better. you accept outcomes like the W Bush years because you are pouting like children because the dems aren't exactly what you want.

[-] 5 points by beautifulworld (23772) 9 years ago

Listen here, buddy, I have voted Democrat all my life (except for Jill Stein in the last Presidential election and, oh my, Obama won again) only to be disappointed at every turn. Of course I do not support the Republicans and of course I do not think they do better BECAUSE I am left of the Democrats you numb nut!

This is the Occupy Wall Street forum. It is obvious that we do not like Republicans. We do not have to talk about not liking Republicans because that is SO OBVIOUS. Why do you keep spewing that crap?

You are fighting for the status quo. You are the one who is weak. You fail to push the Democrats to the left which is the direction they should be going in, the direction of the people! Now quit your nonsense!

[-] 7 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

The whole argument is circular.Which one is Worse? The one who is trying to Kill you.or the Traitor who tries to Help them do it ? Fighting among themselves,People are no more than Easy Meat.A study of History would indicate that the Democrats cannot be Trusted. They are Backstabbers.Ask African Americans.Ask Labor.Ask Women.Ask the Long Term Unemployed.Ask Undocumented Immigrants.Ask Youth.Ask Anybody who is hoping for even so much as Simple Survival-let alone a better Tomorrow. All would be better off placing their hopes in a New Champion.Democrats are Losers by Design.

[-] 3 points by beautifulworld (23772) 9 years ago

Well said, trashyharry.

[-] 2 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

I'm tired of Democrats wheedling&shilling, already. Why can't they rename themselves Republican Democrats&call it a day?

[-] 1 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 9 years ago

hehehe ... they often are called Republicrats

[-] 3 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

The Greasy Old Perverts and The Party of Vain Hope. Not a choice.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

I guess we don't have to talk about wealth inequality either, since it is so OBVIOUS.

You are a pouting child nothing more.

What I propose would racially change everything what you do gives us more of the same allowing pressure to be relieved into third party nothingness while the GOP hangs on when the slightest bit of truth would bring them and the entire system down.

oh or the power of money in politics, that's pretty obvious too

Why do you need credit for everything? I don't need to adopt a single thing from you. I think for myself.

[-] 4 points by beautifulworld (23772) 9 years ago

"...it's also important to recognize good ideas from others so that you can adopt them instead of figuring it by yourself 2 years later."

I've had a good idea for more than two years now, and that is for you to go away and leave the forum alone. LOL. You still want the credit for something that has always been obvious to so many of us here. Okay, you can have the credit. Now, run away.

[-] -1 points by flip (7101) 9 years ago

don't think so but they should - never should have given it to the greedy little shit in the first place. anyone with a brain knew where he was going once he got elected. what a shame - the country was ripe for change - real change and he shit the bed

[-] 1 points by pigeonlady (284) from Brooklyn, NY 9 years ago

Ooh, big surprise. He's a white guy in there. How do you really think he got elected? By NOT subscribing to the same false rhetoric and backstabbing technique? They don't get anywhere without incurring their debts. When they go back on the campaign standards and promises they should have to go.
