It isn't stressed that higher standard education will only be available to the [shrinking] upper middle class, who will be able to supplement their vouchers. As usual, it's the poor and minorities whose children suffer. The libertarian fools among you see nothing wrong with that. You focus on the mosquitos of parasitic/lazy poor people on welfare that are biting your ankle, while the saurian super predators are eating your children. Maybe you'll begin to awaken when the torches and pitchforks arrive at your door, ten percenter! Chances are the common folk won't be able to find your masters that are responsible for the devolution of the human race and the days of blood and anger to come.

How did the Walton's, Gates et al. really win the class war [so far!] and bend the spirit of the human race to their wills? It began with the enthrallment that won our hearts and minds. For that we must congratulate the living dead vampire shades of Ayn Rand and Milton Friedman, who've inspired the blood lust of our billionaire benefactors.

Many millions were thrown into the fray by the 21st Century philanthropic foundations of Gates, Waltons and others to counter the thousands that decent human beings had to influence voters and policy makers. Control of the taxpayers' school funds by for profit private managers, we were told and many of us convinced [from the Latin vince - to conquer] would cure our schools problems: both real and imaginary.

In the spirit of contemporary enlightenment, A Naked Capitalism post from 4/27/16:

"How Bill Gates and His Billionaire Allies Used Their Wealth to Launch Charter Schools in Washington State"

you think it can't happen here? think again!

"For years, Wall Street banks pitched cities and local governments on complicated financial deals, promising big savings over simple loans. When their promises proved false, cities were forced to cut public services and sacrifice communities in order to pay back the biggest banks.

"Wall Street is preying on cities across America, not just Chicago - so we need to do something about it. There is some evidence that banks may have broken the law and misled local governments about the terms of these deals. We need to tell the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to stop sitting on the sideline and start protecting our communities from big banks."

they prey on individuals as well. big hedge funds and private equity are keeping the current real estate bubble floating by buying up foreclosures and turning them into rental streams, as they've already done with prisons, roads and much more of our infrastruture bought at low prices arranged by predatory loans to mostly state and local gov'ts. their business model is a threat to the survival of the human race.

be wary, lest you find yourself entrapped in debt to the saurian super predators who own most of everything and hold the paper on the rest.

if all the money, property and goods (except enough for a comfortable life) were taken from those who have thousands of times more than is needed to live well, it might not be enough to raise all the world's poor from poverty. but it would make a good start.

if one has a thousand times what's needed for a good life and 500 have only enough to slow death a little, half of what the one now has would make life good for the 500.

tax the rich!

Education should NEVER be for profit or at the hands of "philanthropists" who seek to control the minds of every American going forward. Wake up, America. Education is a human right and we have plenty of money to fund it fairly and publicly.

Just because someone like Bill Gates ripped us all off by overcharging for his products and got extremely wealthy doesn't mean he gets to now decide who gets immunizations and who gets an education. Charity perpetuates a sick system that does not work for all people. Charity puts people at the mercy of others. It's shameful, especially in the richest country in the history of the world.

I think demandthegoodlifedotcom who used to post here had that number figured out. He used to say, and forgive me if I'm wrong, but he used to say that each one of us could earn $115,000 per year. That would indeed end poverty.

In the end, taxing the wealthy, would be good for them too, they just don't know it (well, some do), because living in a world where everyone lives decently would be so much better than this.
