I may, or may not have coined the term neolibe(R)tarian for the followers of the works of Ayn Rand, but others are also fully aware of the results of fealty to her "philosophy".

Ayn Rand is a very interesting person. She is yet another example of an amazingly intelligent person who also may have been the most incredibly psychopathic person who has ever existed. When Ayn realized she had a problem that would be nearly impossible to solve, she came up with a solution.Apparently,as a child and young teenager, she had been looking forward with rapturous delight to the time when she would be able to enjoy all sorts of privleges and preferential treatment due to her father's relative wealth;when that lovely future, which had been PROMISED to her didn't happen, her rage was immense. And the worst part was that since her family was no longer wealthy-OTHER WEALTHY FAMILIES DID NOT CARE ABOUT HER ANY MORE.It was all gone-the lovely dresses, the servants, noble residences-and wealthy young men interested in marriage.So-how could she get their attention? How could an impoverished woman become wanted and needed by wealthy people again? She decided to provide them with something they did not already have-a belief system where no selfish, cruel, lazy rich person would ever have to feel guilty again.A belief system where no act no matter how sick, perverted or twisted would be impossible-or condemned.A belief system that would resurrect the long dead notion that Might Makes Right, enshrining it in the center of a moral universe constructed just for the most decadent, rotten, greedy, brutal, selfish and narcissistic of all people-the 1%.Her ideas might have been overlooked during her lifetime-but they would have been found eventually because Shrewd Ayn was right on the mark. They really did need her.Whether they rewarded her with Money is unclear. They rewarded her by making her The Queen of the Universe-I bet she was satisfied by the title, but possibly disappointed that no gigantic Fortune was ever given to her by her Loyal Subjects.

I find nothing amazingly intelligent about her.

She was a hack writer. A psychopath that promoted a sick philosophy that the 1% eats and promotes like candy.

She was a sycophant of the 1%, yearning for their acceptance.

[-] 3 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 11 years ago

Exactly. She was able to get attention from the people she most admired even though she had nothing to recommend her to anyone.Penniless, physically repulsive,no social skills,no talent,no connections-and yet her leading acolyte,Alan Greenspan went on to destroy the entire world economy. What I don't like about her story is that she did not end up in Grey Gardens style squalor and obscurity-or worse.Anyhow, she never was able to be surrounded by servants and splendor-although I'll wager she was VERY mean to the once-a-week Cleaning Lady.

I always found it interesting that Chris Mathews said those were some of his favorite novels. Of course, MSNBC is just another mouthpiece for the machine, so who knows.

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I don't watch TV, so I wouldn't know, nor care.

It's you who follows Ms. Rand, not me.

It's you who defends her "philosophy", not me.

That's all I need to know.

[-] 1 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

I dont spend any time on her. I mean, dude, shes fuckin dead, let it go.

[-] 2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

According to Matt Taibbi, the Rand belief system looks like this:

  1. Facts are facts; things can be absolutely right or absolutely wrong, as determined by reason.

  2. According to my reasoning, I am absolutely right.

  3. Charity is immoral.

  4. Pay for your own fucking schools.

She pushes a belief of self interest as an ethical ideal and pure capitalism as the model for society's political structure.

Essentially her belief is that the rich and powerful should be able to do whatever the fuck they want - because fuck you, you're a parasite.

[-] 2 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

we all know the rich are rich because other with less money can be paid to work for them

[-] 1 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

yep yep!

they exploit consumers and workers.

One of the biggest issues I had with the heroes of "Atlas Shrugged" was the way they demonized those who were looking for compromise. Galt was very hostile to those who wanted to split the difference and come to policies that were beneficial to all parties, which to me seems to be the essence of American republicanism.

The author's holier than though heroes were antithetical to my understanding of our form of government.

Also, her demonization of anyone who proclaims to think of the whole of society over their own lot was a total turn off to me.

Her writings have attempted to take morality out of our nation's debates.

The most extreme and pure case of Narcissistic Personality Disorder that can be found anywhere-Ayn Rand.I also think she was off-the-charts desperately repulsive in every single way and on every level.Yet she got part of what she wanted, against all the odds.I admire the fact that when she figured out she could never fit into any group of people, she turned herself into a Dirtbag Magnet and became their idol.

Go read Griftopia.

[-] 1 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 11 years ago

I have read Griftopia.

Bump for the evening crowd.

[-] 3 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Well............and that was a mistake. It is I that am taking over the universe. This leaves me with only one thing to say as I wag my finger, "Bitch-please."

She was a sad sight. Really.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Bump, for the afternoon crowd.

[-] 2 points by 99nproud (2697) 11 years ago

The queen is dead! Long live the King!

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

King ALEC.

All the (R)epelican'ts bow to him.

[-] 1 points by 99nproud (2697) 11 years ago

Indeed. Prince grover?

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

"Lady" ( I use that term at it's loosest ) in waiting, Ann Coulter.

[-] 2 points by 99nproud (2697) 11 years ago

Lady skeletor maybe.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

She is the Ayn Rand of the new millennium.

[-] 1 points by 99nproud (2697) 11 years ago

cold hearted, greedy, selfish, lyin b*tch.

[-] -1 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Who invented the DemoRats and Demoncrats sayings? Or how about Libtards? And Libertards? Paultards perhaps? Pubes? Republicants? Repelicants?

Most of these silly sayings are a direct result of how the machine works. It gets people to almost revert back to school yard name calling stuff. It accomplishes nothing and only helps to make that sand in the line (like a game of dodgeball) even deeper.

As long as the kids are busy throwing the balls at each other, they wont notice the referee is eating their lunch.

This is no different. Except its full grown men and women behaving this way. Its not normal. Its the direct result of constant social programming that is deeply woven into the system.

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

This from a guy who proudly calls the 99% asses.

I hope you don't expect anyone to take this seriously.

These are just more words spoken in defense of Ms. Rand and that's just sad.

[-] -2 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Its not a defense of her. Its an offensive against your lust for popularity for creating a name.

Your obession with this pet name personifies self interest to the extent where Rand would be very proud of you.

Congrats.

Another human acting in self interest. Shocking.

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

You should at least pretend to be dealing with reality.

Your love of libe(R)tarians is as notorious as your propensity for name calling.

[-] -3 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

The reality is your popularity seeking. Self interest at its best.

First we find out you vote for people who accept alec donations from over half the board.

Now we see your self interest in names is comparable to the shit that Rand endorsed.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Time to decide if you are with the p.eople, or you are here for your own self glory

[-] 2 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 11 years ago

Damn... that's some real speak.

But i get the impression that the conversations devolve into name calling after exhausted hours of not seeing eye to eye. We wish we could get others to understand our perspectives, but because it seems daunting sometimes, we revert to school yard tactics.

Not making an excuse for the behavior but just trying to understand it in a more rational way. Even though the powers that be are stronger because of our lack of civility, I don't think they relish in it. Our perspectives are different because of our social-economic differences so I believe. Breaking such a barrier might be easier said than done, especially in our highly volatile society.

To bad we did not have some type of non bias institution that acted as a non non partisan referee. :)

[-] -1 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

"To bad we did not have some type of non bias institution that acted as a non non partisan referee. :)"

Thats why I liked Occupy so much, every hour spent was a different person with a different take on a variety of issues. From the homeless to the lawyers, from the communists to the libertarians....I think the experience alone was about as close to a non partisan referee as we may ever see... :(

competition is a cruel tyrant

[-] -1 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

When did you coin the term or first use it? Do you mean the actual term, or just the way you misspell it?

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

What misspelling?

It's spelled perfectly.

[-] -1 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

Guess the () and odd capitalization are just an artistic flourish.

When did you come up with the term?

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I use it to demonstrate their intimate ties to the (R)epelican't party.

Like you, most people miss that.

[-] 2 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 11 years ago

Oh shooz, I find it hard to believe that most people did not understand what the (R) meant in Tea Pa(R)ty and Neoliberta(R)ians. It's quite obvious.

Later shooz, and I hope you have a good day.

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

zilla likes to play dumb. He's not alone in that either, but what the hey, it bumps the thread....................:)

[-] 3 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 11 years ago

Have you read "Atlas Sh(R)ugged"? If so, don't you find it weird that so many people embrace her Anti-republicanism message.

Like some politicians today, she divided the republic in to makers and takers, but she also made room for the consolidators. She may have seen the takers as a nuisance, but i get the impression she detested the consolidators, the moderates if you will.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Profit and selfishness as a means to end are all she and her followers endorse.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

I have like zero tolerance for the left right pounch and judy show

I know that isn't

discounting poster that don't know not to speak in linear left right terms

[-] -1 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

omg, I get it now. I just thought your keyboard was broken. That is super clever and really sticks it to the man. Pretty good for a (D)umbocrat.

[-] 2 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

Ayn Rand w/ Tea Party = enemy of the 99%.

[-] 3 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

The selfishness & anti social nature of the ideology is more important then the spelling so perhaps your opinion/position on that would be more valuable.

[-] -3 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Thats interesting. We have someone who is declaring to be the inventor of a silly term, which is obviously a self-interest move, and we are stating that the meaning of it is to draw attention to selfishness.

Coining one's own terms to draw attention to selfishness. Ironic.

[-] 2 points by inclusionman (7064) 11 years ago

What does it all mean.? I think in fact the discussion of spelling or who created, or calling them selfish avoids the issue that affects the 99%.

The ideology of neo libe(R)tarians is anathema to the occupy movement and destructive to the 99%.

That's the important issue to discuss. The rest is is silly games.

[-] 1 points by 99nproud (2697) 11 years ago

How can you misspell a word you create?

[-] -2 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

I think it was John Goedde who came up with the term. He's an extremely imporatant and influential Idaho politician.

[-] 1 points by 99nproud (2697) 11 years ago

Is he the wacko who wants to force people to read the wacko Ayn Rand?

[-] -2 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

Well, when it was used in the '60's, it wasn't spelled the way he spells it.

[-] 2 points by 99nproud (2697) 11 years ago

Wow. He's been around a long time.

[-] -2 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

He leaves that fact out.

[-] 2 points by 99nproud (2697) 11 years ago

I don't think he created the term that far back. It would seem he created it independently without being aware of the older creation.

[-] -1 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

It's a strange thing to take credit for. Like when Mets manager Bobby Valentine said he invented the wrap sandwich. Bit of a whacko alert if you ask me.

[-] 2 points by 99nproud (2697) 11 years ago

He is rightfully proud of a very descriptive term that encapsulates the ideology that is working for the 1% oligarchs against the 99%.

[-] -1 points by freakzilla (-161) from Detroit, MI 11 years ago

Rightfully proud of being a whacko...

[-] 1 points by 99nproud (2697) 11 years ago

not a wacko at all. Seems to be on the right side of the issues.

[-] 2 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago
