In this country, the numbers are power - even though ownership is the realm of the 1% - and if only the public was aware that through petition drives and elections (which we need in much greater frequency) we can create the laws WITHOUT the politicians! By the very nature of maintaining wealth, the few taking from the many, the ONE vulnerability of the rich is their lack of numbers. In past times, they - sometimes openly - bought votes at the polls; certainly, they can buy the politicians - but we can draft the laws OURSELVES!! Every effort should be made in this direction to CLAIM the Peoples' power!!

That's interesting, in California the propositions use direct elections and i believe that they (the propositions) get started w/ petitions. Problem is the courts constantly challenge and sometimes override the people's choice in the propositions.
