Forum Post: OWS endorses Ron Paul for president as April Fools' joke

Just check out the homepage for OWS proper:

http://www.nycga.net/

And a screencap for future-saving:

This leaves me with some questions. Since this joke is appearing right on the homepage, does that mean that it was GA-approved by the 90% consensus policy? Is it beneficial to OWS to alienate Ron Paul supporters and libertarians in general in such a manner?

The question I would ask RP supporters is do they completely deny that private power can become oppressive? Herein lies the major point of contention between RP style libertarians and more progressive oriented libertarians. We don't deny the obvious.

At my first OWS rally, I saw RP signs. I thought that was a joke, I would later learn that many supporters actually believe RP's policies would decrease inequality. In talking to them, it became apparent that schools are spending a lot less time than they used to on history. RP is a typical libertarian, and shares the same conservative views on economics as conservatives such as Bush, Reagan, Hoover, and Coolidge. Looking at history, we actually only had a middle class period between the 1940's and 1980's. The liberal revolution of the 1930's created a middle class, and the Reagan revolution ended it. Two of RP's other rather bizarre beliefs - ending the Fed and going back to the gold standard, are not possible. But for those that want that, they should know the pre - Fed period and gold standard period were VERY oppressive, for all but the 1 %. I do understand that people are looking for something different than the choices we have - and I am not happy with them. But RP makes no sense if you think inequality is a problem.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! Jesus, that's too good. I'm glad OWS has a sense of humor. XD

I for one would do away with ALL politicos, I don't vote. All power becomes oppressive...period. Having said that, here we are at the moment, RP better than Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich. Ron Paul is the only candidate who seems honest and who cares what happens to the United States. The others are bought out by the banks including Obama. The only thing that will save this country is stopping all the militarism and the bankers from controlling the stuff they print; ei, what passes for money....my two cents.

I don't think that this alienates RP supporters, it was just a good natured joke intent on building a comradery between the two movements.

I've always felt like the rLOVEution. will be the new Republican Party and OWS will be the new Democratic party.

At least we agree on half the issues,

It doesn't, that happened months ago.

I doubt you'll find an RP supporter that would piss on an OWS'er if on fire and our numbers are far greater, regardless what the primary results may indicate.

[-] 1 points by iamausername (119) 11 years ago

not true.

[-] -1 points by GumbyDamnit (36) 11 years ago

RP supporters ARE NOT going to put Obama back in the Whitehouse no matter how much the rabid DNC OWS'ers hope they will.

This is why none of them are sticking their foul cess pools of mouths in this thread, hoping it will happen.

DO you see any of OWS upset in the least over the voting fraud in the primaries? Nope, fuck em.

[-] 2 points by iamausername (119) 11 years ago

well, considering mitt romney is an etch-a-sketch, rick santorum is a bigot, and newt gingrich wants to put giant mirrors in space to deter crime, I'm not terribly worried. but i could be wrong

[-] -1 points by GumbyDamnit (36) 11 years ago

So you approve of and are happy with Obama?

[-] 1 points by iamausername (119) 11 years ago

more than i would be of any GOP candidates this year.

[-] 0 points by lancealotlink (147) 11 years ago

Oh really most of the RP supporters I know say they will not support any of the repubs except for Ron Paul. and why should OWS worry about anything that goes on in the Republican party {we arn't Republicans}.If you you feel like Republicans are cheating your votes then why are you still one?.

[-] -2 points by GumbyDamnit (36) 11 years ago

You fit right in here, with your boundless assumptions. Good exercise for you? Independents put Obama in and will surely vote him out, regardless of which pasty white bastard goes in his place.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say but where I'm from OWS and RP supporters work together we have to. employmentforthe99.com

[-] -1 points by GumbyDamnit (36) 11 years ago

Really? OWS cooperates with RP how?

[-] 1 points by lancealotlink (147) 11 years ago

The fact that OWS even lets you comment on this site shows how we cooperate with RP supporters.

[-] 1 points by lancealotlink (147) 11 years ago

well when we held meetings in our park ,I would say 1/2 were RP and the other were OWS. If you are so opposed to an alliance then why are you here?

[-] -1 points by GumbyDamnit (36) 11 years ago

I suppose that is something you may have to decide for yourself. Your experience does not gel with the general consensus of this forum.

If you don't believe it, try starting a support RP thread here, OR, just search.
