Forum Post: Open War Renewed -- 300 Rockets Fired Out of Gaza

This past week saw the largest attack on Israel since 1973 and the April 9th Yom Kippur War. Islamic Jihad is the organization observed to be responsible. Somewhat surprisingly, Hamas has not taken part in these actions.

For whatever reason the American press is ignoring this return to extreme high-power violence. The trend through 2011 and early 2012 has been away from violence, an Arab search for approaches that might get solutions that are useful for ordinary Palestinians.

Arab Muslim and Arab Christian objections to Israeli rule, particularly this past year and for the West Bank, have taken a turn toward nonviolent direct (or community) action. Military confrontations and terrorist suicide-bombings have dropped away because they don't get anything positive.

Islamic Jihad didn't get the memo.

Or maybe they did get the memo and decided that NDA does not support having a society run by its pro-military fanatics. NDA always ends up pushing hard for democracy. That would not be a viable environment for such as Islamic Jihad.

Meanwhile... back at the Middle East with its scorpions-and-turtles and the crossing-the-river problem.... Do imagine some community out on Long Island lobbing 300 missiles into Queens. There would be a response.

There is going to be a response to Gaza, of course.

This is not going to end well. Not for residents of Gaza, certainly. Worst thing I can see is that Gaza residents have no control over the pro-military fanatics. These groups are foreign financed, Islamic Jihad by Iran. The fighters are young guys with no jobs. The locals have no say in what happens.

These missiles keep coming, then IDF is going to roll into Gaza in force and trash the place. Islamic Jihad's assets will be destroyed along with about a 99-to-1 destruction of civilian/collateral property. A 100 people will be killed -- few of them the IJ gangbangers.

As long as foreign money supports the likes of Islamic Jihad, nothing in this mess is going to change. We saw Palestinian Authority change, miracle of miracles, particularly blocking foreign financing of street gangs and cutting back Hezbollah. Change is not impossible.

The key for Gaza is Hamas. To be noted: Hamas is not firing its own missiles at Israel in this attack, at least so far. Hamas is sitting back and watching Islamic Jihad fire its missiles. That is change. It's the Middle East so that is change. But it seems that we are decades away from Hamas getting interested in NDA and real world political success. Hamas is famous for raising tens of millions of dollars in donations while delivering zip-zero in terms of Palestinian quality of live.

The American press ignores Gaza and Israel until Israel sends in IDF tanks and personnel carriers and lots of guns. The story has to bleed to lead. And that ain't never gonna change.

The Palestinians? You have to think that on the West Bank they have to win politically, long-term, reducing the so-called "Settlers" to a local minority. Everybody involved knows that stealing land and water on the West Bank has been the Big Crime ongoing for the most of the last 40 years. It is blatant thuggery. Eventually Palestinians have to win that one -- tag the change for 50 years or a century, but it has to happen.

The Eight Meter Wall cut back suicide-bombings, but it also seals the line for the final border. The settlement communities outside The Wall are as untenable as offshore colonies -- those people are going to end up living in majority-Arab Palestine.

You won't see that item discussed in the American press. Or at JPost.
