Forum Post: Oops! Economic Growth Wasn't So Great After All

U.S. economic growth regained speed in the first quarter, but not as much as expected, which could heighten fears the already weakening economy could struggle to handle deep government spending cuts and higher taxes.

Gross domestic product expanded at 2.5 percent annual rate, the Commerce Department said on Friday, after growth nearly stalled at 0.4 percent in the fourth quarter. The increase, however, missed economists' expectations for a 3.0 percent growth pace.

OK, most of this was based on lies and you are acting like this is the first recession you've experienced.

PS: Ford had a record quarter.

A record mind you, means the best in over 100 years.

So MickyDs is down or something and that's where you put all your money?

For shame. the DOW is in record territory too.

It would seem that YOU are the grossest domestic product.

Nice commentary. Year 5 of your man and your economic ideas and this is what you have produced. If you are going to talk the talk...

Probably would have been a more productive time - If a large portion of congress were not in rebellion and in the pay of special interest groups ( The GREEDY Criminal Elite )

this should make you a little happier ?

Attack on Social Security:

It's come to this: A Democratic President is proposing to slash Social Security benefits while simultaneously handing over billions to defense contractors.

Did President Obama forget he just shellacked the Republicans in November? So why is he caving to Republicans before they even come to the negotiating table.

It was bad enough when his budget proposal put Social Security benefits on the chopping block. But his plan to boost military spending by $400 billion at the same time is right out of the Republican playbook.

We still know how to stand up for Democratic values. Join the thousands of DFA members calling on Congress to reject the President's dangerous proposal.

The White House says these cuts are a "good faith" proposal to Congressional Republicans. But there's nothing good about compromising our core progressive values, and nothing faithful about abandoning generations of Democratic legacy and leadership.

Remind Congressional Democrats: Real Democrats don't cut Social Security -- and they certainly don't do it to appease the radical right and defense contractors.

Real Democrats stand for all Americans, not just the privileged and well-connected.

What I added:

You should also Consider This Term and it's meaning: DEMOCIDE

The objectives of such a plan of democide include the disintegration of the political and social institutions of culture, language, national feelings, religion, and the economic existence of national groups; the destruction of the personal security, liberty, health, dignity; and even the lives of the individuals belonging to such groups.[7]

Face the truth of austerity measures as well as other actions.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I'll take that for a yes, this is your first recession.

It shows by your lack of understanding.

Still can't produce that growth can you and now your Congressional brethren are realizing that Obamacare is a mess. what's going to happen next year when young people have to buy insurance and don't want to?

You want to debate economics, go right ahead.

[-] 0 points by quantumystic (1710) from Memphis, TN 11 years ago

i don't know anyone who does not want insurance. i know plenty who can't afford insurance however. so really the solution to me seems simple. single payer healthcare and if that is not good enough for you feel free to buy private insurance.

You can leave the economic traditionalists behind.

All of their economic theories have failed again and again.
