At 5 am this morning police in Oakland barricaded occupy Oakland, charged protesters using tear gas, rubber bullets, and clubs. Many people were also arrested. Protesters said it seemed like they had been transported to a third world country during the raids. Welcome to the new America.

What's messed up is that there's NO video from inside on YouTube. I wonder if the police arrested everyone who had a video recording device just for this purpose?

All media & legal observers were kept 1/2 block away when the cops actually moved into the encampment, so no one but those inside know what went down.

There are many Well known Attorneys in the No. Cal. Area that would be jumping at the Bit to represent the Oak. #ows...

Just knock on their doors! Time we got THAT part of the Ball rolling anyway..

A protracted litigation process is not really what the movements wants though. We want to remain on the street. This is a movement not a lawyers gild.

I hear ya!.. But, you know it's only a matter of time that the 'Right to a peaceful assembly' will be brought up the longer, and the Mightier we get.

.. Just sayin' But i support anything, and any Way.. the #ows wants this .

Risking getting arrest is part and parcel to being involved in this movement. In fact events like this are necessary. What bothers me is not the arrests or "breaking up the encampment", rather the overblown melodramatics posted about how the police brutalize the protestors. Likening the police action to a "third world nation" makes the movement look childish and stupid. Having been arrested in a "third world nation" there is no comparison, sorry. Try getting beaten by the cops, having your bones broken, spit on, pissed on and thrown into a over crowed cell with no medical attention and no legal rights to speak of and the other inmates then take turns beating you. Sorry, this crybaby BS annoys me to no end.

I'm sure some people got their bones broken. You should see how fiercely these riot police were swinging at protesters. Check it out on youtube.

Take note: 5AM, 6AM, 7AM and *AM are 'prime times' for Police/SWAT teams to perform evictions. I should know because I used to live in a complex (The Lotus Apartments in Martinez, CA at 3979 Alhambra Ave.) with several Section 8 renters and over 15 registered sex offenders (found out that rude fact from a college girl who moved in next to us whose family was involved in law enforcement-we all moved out shortly thereafter since there was a marked increase in tenant disturbance such as domestic and civil ie: families fighting, people being thrown over the 2nd and 3rd balconies, excessive stereo noise: ie: one guy played his stereo so loud the walls, pictures, knick knacks and kitchen dishes rattled.)

I notice someone posted that the drumming at Zucotti park is occurring beyond agreed curfew, well, if the intent is to stop the protests within the next week or so in a way that appears involuntary I can't think of a better way than for the drummers to behave like bad tenants by disturbing the peace beyond previously agreed protest times.
