There are many wonderful spokespersons .. perhaps even a "team " of Spokespersons"

Whom would you nominate for Representing Occupy to the media to the World ?

Let's hold an Election .. !

OK- I don't want to start a war here - but this is why OWS is floundering -
myths, dreams, impossibles, theories
why AREN'T we working on something productive?
I have been in NYS OWS working groups for over a year where thousands of hours have been wasted on stuff like this. Do you want to theorize and dream?
OR do you want t o get something REAL done?
VERY SPECIFICALLY - there are 13 comments here - how can any of these things be actually achieved? SPECIFICALLY

I've tried to talk about how we could specifically reach more people and nobody even wants to comment. Not good or bad, not even their own ideas, just nothing. Maybe this just isn't the place. Maybe in general we're too afraid to spend time on something uncertain. You have a giant group of people all obsessed with figuring out the problem so that every explaination continuiously changes the impression, which will go on forever. I agree. We know the elimination of corporate personhood will help, it has boiled down, so now we have to make it happen.

Still is not working for me. Just spins and then times out. Pretty odd since it's working for you, and did for me too a month ago. Try to find out if people in any other states have this problem like me in california. Maybe contact 000webhost and ask about it.

torches and pitchforks - won't happen until we're ready to risk getting shipped off to a detention camp to preserve freedom for others. People have too much to lose for that (like kids and families, and lives, and fresh air) It's a sacrifice that will come only when we're pushed to the brink... however corporations have found how to walk the line of what we will tolerate and how to slowly bring about a "new normal" level of acceptance. Exaple push gas prices from - 5.00 up to 10.00 then bring it back down to 7.00 and people will pee themselves with glee that it's not 10.00 anymore. This is happening in every sector of the economy including unemployment, pollution, GMO food, healthcare. We're all being played with and begging for mercy, then we're kissing their robes when they relent some.

[-] -1 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

Thousands of hours .. this should certainly implicate a common desire in the hearts and minds of OWS supporters .. so why is it suppressed ?

[-] 2 points by bensdad (8977) 11 years ago

How many thousands of hours are spent by Arabs prying for the destruction of Israel? How many thousands of hours were spent by the church attacking Jerusalem during the crusades?

OWS effers were not "suppressed" any more than nailing jello to a wall is "suppressed"

But seriously - have YOU been to any OWS WG meetings? I've been to over a hundred - including hours of arguments about dates and punctuation.

In your mind, what has been Occupy's greatest accomplishment ..

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Heres some positive press.

http://news.yahoo.com/nypd-credits-occupy-drop-crime-sandy-024332590.html

Small success, but the continuation of small progress. Gotta be patient.

[-] -2 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

I notice Occupy sure likes to "blow their own horn" .."We were there first ! We were there first ! "

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

maybe we should lay off the good PR, cause we get so much good press otherwise?

[-] -2 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

Is that why Occupy helped , .. to get good PR ?

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Nope, not that I now of.

[-] -1 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

Not even ..a little..?

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Nope. not the people I met.

[-] 0 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

What is going to happen to all those people whom lost their homes .. and everything they've owned .. ? Where are they living now .. ? Has Insurance companies stepped forward ..? Fema helping them ..? They are completely wiped out .. and those homes are in a bad spot to be rebuilt .. it must be a very tough situation for those individuals going through such a horrible outcome.. just getting to work in the morning must now be extremely difficult .. It is truly horrible .. One thing though .. the good people that went down to lend a helping hand ..I have admiration and respect for such an act of kindness .. and also I believe the American Gov't will help these people as much as possible .. America is truly GREAT :-)

[-] -1 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

A year has gone by.. is there anything else accomplished ?

[-] 3 points by bensdad (8977) 11 years ago

helping Sandy vitims

[-] -1 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

Has there been any official contact with a Member of Congress by an Occupy Representee ?

[-] 2 points by bensdad (8977) 11 years ago

How can that be?
Isn't it "illegal" for OWS to have spokesmen or leaders?
Why would any organization want or need leaders or spokesmen?

[-] -1 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

It is a Constitutional right to Redress Grievences.. and I would think having a representative to convey those Grievences to Congress would fall within all legal boundaries.

[-] 2 points by bensdad (8977) 11 years ago

Sorry to sound condescending - read the constitution -
if you are American, you have a representative.

[-] -2 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

So than , your answer is " NO" .. Occupy has never officially spoke with anyone in Congress ..this past year ..plus !!

Just hanging around the park all day .. huh ?

is thewre anything you need .. food ..blankets ..some candles ?

[-] 3 points by bensdad (8977) 11 years ago

How long have you been "here" ? OWS - BY DEFINITION has no leaders or any officials
and frankly, I am one of 20%(?) who think we should
but before you continue your silly comments, attend a few meetings &
learn about OWS

[-] 0 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

Are you one of the Founder's of Occupy ?

[-] 1 points by bensdad (8977) 11 years ago

NO! I started in October last year
I have a small number of "co-conspirators" who are still active
most of the others gave up when their philosophies & theories
did not create quick results

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

And yet Occupy has had a profound affect on congress.

Didja' miss that?

[-] 0 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

Which proves Congress is not so "UNREASONABLE" as Occupy tries to make them out to be .. and leads to the reason why Occupy should Appoint a Representative to speak with Congress on behalf of its supporters.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

I think we have an influence just fine, & we are able to keep our hands clean, & we are free to criticize all pols.

I think the influence we've had can grow with a better organization, clearer focus. I've always assumed that will come naturally.

What we can do now is get into the media stream and be heard (by congress & all) beyond our street activism.

What we should be doing is building a strong progressive coalition with like minded groups who do have a presence/communication line to govt.

But even before those 2 efforts occur we will continue to grow, continue to increase our influence amongst the population & govt.

It's inevitable. But we don't have to dirty our hands by getting down in the muck with the pols.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

So, you have taken this to the GAs and this is working out splendidly? Otherwise you wouldn't be wasting your time here, amiright?

[-] 1 points by cJessgo (729) from Port Jervis, PA 11 years ago

I think you will do fine Mr.UFO.You should get busy rigt away and not waste yours, or our time .

[-] 0 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

Sweetheart, time is never wasted.

[-] 1 points by cJessgo (729) from Port Jervis, PA 11 years ago

You say your wasted all the time?

[-] 1 points by elf3 (4203) 11 years ago

Since generation x is the smallest and most under-represented generation I nominate a gen-xer

[-] 0 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

We need the right person to fill this position, age race color makes no matter .. just needs to be the right person..male or female. A Spokesperson.

[-] 1 points by ivyquinn (167) 11 years ago

I present he idea of two LOCAL democratic councils in my Perpetual Energy and Censor Free economy plan. Set fire to local economies by instituting alternative, censor free money, as well as off the grid energy production. We can win this.

[-] 0 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

VeryGood, we are always looking for new ideas and improvements.

The Elected Representative would have duties such as: conducting polls and surveys from We the People, and returning those results back to We the people in presentation form with discussion related material .. we need to isolate our main concerns and set forth a plan to achieve our goals.. it's a step by step process .. Also the Spokesperson/Team , would have the responsibilities making the final requests to the members of congress through open avenues of media and or direct contact. Of course expenses will need to be accounted for , membership fees collected .. secretary etc . Who do you have in mind capable of handling such a position .. and with the heart to see it through. of course further duties and responsibilities will need to be established upon further discussion prior to election and perhaps ongoing. The Representative will be required to make the right decision , say the right words ,present the right information .. be presentable.. this is a position of Ambassador.

[-] 1 points by ivyquinn (167) 11 years ago

My plan injects citizens into seats on the panel. Each member must be elected and can be removed if results aren't made.

[-] 0 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

Well yes of course, we are all Citizens. But not all citizens have the ability to represent the people .. it has to be someone natural for the position, someone who enjoys the position .. and someone strong enough to take on the task .. there is no punishment.. if our appointed leaders fail, we all fail .. Everyone is welcome to give it a try or two.. leadership is something of a discovery to us all .. but we must be willing to step down or aside .. if unable to perform our obligations.. or perhaps request additional support where/when required .. this is an effort by all.. Now let's find that right person to Lead.

[-] 1 points by ivyquinn (167) 11 years ago

What I meant by that is this:

1-Director of Oversight 2-VP of Oversight 3-secretary 4-accounting 5-networking 6-media/pr 7-sociology 8-economy 9-energy correspondent 10-Miner 11-Citizen (local) 12-Citizen (state)

[-] 0 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

Your good at this !

Please continue.

[-] 0 points by freewriterguy (882) 11 years ago

men never agree, and neither has any man ever represented me, he only represents his own interest.

[-] 0 points by Savimbi (-10) 11 years ago

Occupy needs to elect a Representative to the U.S. Congress.... And a Senator.... And what the hell - a President in the White House!

[-] 0 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

Let's start with someone who will first speak to Congress on behalf of the wishes of the people.

[-] -1 points by Savimbi (-10) 11 years ago

If the people wish to address Congress, the way to do it would be through a Representative. It shouldn't be too hard to field a candidate or candidates from the movement with some appeal and credibility.

[-] 0 points by UnFriendlyObserver (-32) 11 years ago

I am afraid this is really out of my expertise..

[-] -2 points by janus2 (-387) 11 years ago

helen thomas would be perfect for the job.
