Forum Post: Obama in my City... Anyone have question Ideas?

Posted 11 years ago on Aug. 13, 2012, 12:50 a.m. EST by TrevorMnemonic (5827)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

I am going to be doing a questionnaire for a video I'm putting together.

I will be at a n event where the president will be giving a speech.

Anyone have suggestions on questions I should ask people?

I want to test people's knowledge on who they support in the presidential election... and why they support that candidate... if they really even know why.

I've wanted to do this with Romney supporters as well but he's blown off both visits he planned to make in my city. I'm hoping some will be at the event that I can question. So Romney question ideas too please.

UPDATE: didn't make the video. Just ended up driving there to protest with a friend.

We got there 30 minutes early but the president got there 35 minutes early and the event stopped letting people in. It was blockaded with police, buses, semi trailers, etc. Police would tell you to move if you tried to see the prez from the only viewable area outside the perimeter.

I asked the cops why we weren't allowed in... or at least the hundreds of his supporters that wanted in.... and was told they were just following the law. I told them just because it's a law doesn't mean it's not bullshit. They threatened to arrest me for saying bullshit in public. Apparently in Iowa curse words are illegal in public. So we just walked around and listened to Obama from behind buildings. I swear if Obama didn't have such a shitty republican to bash on he'd have nothing to talk about. One thing I agree with Obama on... Romney blows. LOL

Protest signs read: " Nobel Peace Prize? Why are we still in Afghanistan? Why did we bomb 5 countries in the last 12 months? Why are mercenaries like Black Water and I.D.S. still being used? "

and

"Romney and Obama paid for by Goldman Sachs." and in smaller font I listed 5 other huge banks that have committed fraud/get billion dollar subsidies/got bailout money/etc.... of which have all given money to both candidates.

Question for Obomber when he comes to your town :

  • "So WTF happened to 'Hope & Change' ?!"

The "WTF" bit is optional of but perfectly justified !!

ad iudicium ...

[-] 3 points by jrhirsch (4714) from Sun City, CA 11 years ago

I've lost hope and want change!

[-] 2 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 11 years ago

TMneumonic-you should definately,(if you ever get another chance)ask The President TO PUT YOUR NAME ON THE DO NOT KILL LIST immediately, along with mine!

[-] 2 points by jrhirsch (4714) from Sun City, CA 11 years ago

1. Why is a Nobel peace prize recipient unable to end the war in Afghanistan after 11 years of fighting?

[-] -2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

I was told to "fuck off" a few times

I got the finger

I heard a ton of negative mutters

I had people mock me

I got a hell of a lot of dirty looks

all because i had a sign that said

" Nobel Peace Prize? Why are we still in Afghanistan? Why did we bomb 5 countries in the last 12 months? Why are mercenaries like Black Water and I.D.S. still being used? "

My friend put it best "Well poorly educated supporters are on all sides"

Many people read the sign and kept on walking.

And there was also a lot of people who were polite and stopped to talk to me about the wars. Those people were legit and respectful. Most people were not aware that the government bombed 5 countries in last 12 months and didn't care when I told them. There was Zero outrage from people on the issue of war and the number of countries bombed.

Also I don't want to give the impression that the majority of people were dicks. I'd say it was about 10% lol

Interesting. I have a great Aunt who is a rabid Obama supporter. She dismisses in Obama what she would abhor in any Republican. They are literally blinded like deer in headlights, and soon Obama is going to hit them head on.

Anti Obama, & anti Obama supporters.

Alot of those people that flipped you off will be singing a different tune if the Military power of the American empire turns inward as it has predictably over history. Sad...

what are you doing to make elections national holidays ?

[-] 1 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

Ask him: How can we help reduce the massive republican obstruction being orchestrated by the 1% plutocrats? I mean if you wanna be realistic about what has happened the last 4 years.

[-] 1 points by kaiserw (211) 11 years ago

Questions:

Why are you fighting to get/keep the power to imprison and kill Americans by the US military without any judicial due process for "terrorism" without any evidence or charges under the NDAA

Why are you trying to eliminate the 1st, 5th and 6th amendments in the BoR in the NDAA?

Why has your justice department expanded and extended a criminal Bush administration program to arm specific drug cartels in Mexico? Are you and the CIA back in the drug dealing business?

Why has your justice department not prosecuted anyone for the financial crimes since 2008. During the savings and loan crisis there wer 30,000 criminal referrals to the FBI, and over 1,000 prosecutions, there have been 2 since 2008. Why haven't you gone after John Corzine? Because he's your buddy, funneling money into your campaign? His theft of peoples' money is as large as Madoff, and yet he walks free!?!?!?!?!

How many more Americans do you intend to execute via drone attacks on your order alone in your next term? Do you intend to begin murdering Americans on US Soil, at only your discretion?

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Here's mine.....

"Seems how you all serve the highest bidder, how much money do you want from us to get the hell out, and take Pelosi, Reid, Boehner, McConnel and Romney with you?"

[-] 0 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

lol that would be funny! They wouldn't do it because they all want the POWER. And accepting bribery is the only way to get there with this fucked up system.

Also every where I see your comments you have negative votes... it's like there's an all out attack on you.

Partisan politics has over run this site. It's sad.

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Ya, pretty amazing that someone would downvote my opinion that we should fire all of congress and the current two presidential nominees.

Apparently some think this is as good as we can do.

[-] 1 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

to each their own... i guess.

I'd like to see them argue their opinion instead of hiding behind a downvote

[-] 2 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

That would require a degree of maturity.

Republican policies created evry problem we are facing. Every effort Pres Obama and the dems have made to undo their mess has been obstructed, watered down, filibustered by guess who.....? Republicans. Criticize whoever you want. But if you do so without mentioning that the republicans created the problems and prevented the solutions then you are being dishonest. You are serving the republicans by keeping silent on that truth.

[-] -1 points by Mooks (1985) 11 years ago

Oh I completely agree. I mean look at all the money the big banks give to the GOP. They must completely be in their pocket. It is a good thing that Obama doesn't take huge money from the big Wall St banks and the 1%. Oh wait...nevermind.

[-] 0 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

Taking the money is only part of the problem. besides dems are getting very little now. The real problem is the policy. And low regulations is a republican concept not democratic. Cuting taxes for the same 1%'rs is also republican not democratic. Even if some dems vote for it. most do not. And the agenda is opposite than republicans on these issues. What must happen is to keep repubs out of power and pressure all pols to pass progressive solutions.

[-] 1 points by Mooks (1985) 11 years ago

Look at Obama's biggest achievement - the ACA. No doubt it helps poor people. But who do you think benefits more? The millions that will be added to state Medicaid programs which are already bursting at the seams with long wait times and substandard medical care? Or the health insurance companies and the 1% which were handed 10's of millions of new customers just like that. There is a reason why my United Healthcare stock has doubled in just 2 years since the ACA was passed (not that I am complaining about that too much haha).

Obama just had a $35,800 a plate fundraiser in Westport CT last week. That isn't 1% money. It is 0.001% money. Any politician, R or D, is like a dog in that they learn very, very quickly not to bite the hand that feeds them.

[-] -1 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

Republicans obstruction prevented the public option and forced the secret deal with big pharm, & insurance. No big deal. We got our foot in the door. But the republicans know that the private health insurance corps are gonna be put uot of business. The private health insurance corps know as well. Certainly the dems know it as do I. Vt and Mt are alrady working on their public option. Seems your the only one who don't know. Whatever it will happen and you will eat your words. You must recognize the big fucking deal this is. We have a new universal entitlement that will only improve. If we deny republicans any more power. And pressure all pols to enact the improvement we want in all areas that help the 99%. The Pres must take money or he cannot defeat the republican 1% elite tool Romney.

[-] -1 points by Mooks (1985) 11 years ago

If the Republicans know that private insurance companies will go out of business, and the Democrats know they will go out of business (apparently I am the only one who doesn't know this) how on earth has my UNH stock doubled in the last 2 years? You don't see many dying companies produce those kinds of returns. The average analyst estimated growth rate going forward for the health insurance industry is 14.32% per year. That hardly seems like a dying industry.

I have no problem with a public option, but hopefully it is run better than existing Medicaid programs. I am a dentist and one or two days a month I volunteer in a non-profit clinic treating Medicaid patients and it is a freaking mess. I normally spend my entire day there extracting teeth that are completely restorable but Medicaid has already decided for myself and the patient that they should be extracted instead so that is what they pay for. Neither me or the patient can do anything about it. I can only imagine the crappy dental work that gets done in for-profit practices that accept Medicaid patients. We don't accept them in my private practice because we would actually lose money every time we saw a patient unless I laid off half my staff and started using crappy materials, which I won't do (nor will I go to work all day just to lose money).

[-] 3 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

You are arguing with the current title holder for most partisan hack on the forum.

[-] 0 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

lol

yeah people just need to stop talking with these people and they'll go away.

Just like in that freddy krueger movie where they got freddy to disappear by not thinking about him. This was my proposed theory on how to get rid of Sarah Palin after the election in 2008. LOL

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

that idea runs through my mind aswell

but the elite have coffers to promote what they want

so even ignored they can still broadcast

[-] -2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

Palin has kind of gone away though. But yeah Huckabee got a show. LOL

[-] 0 points by Mooks (1985) 11 years ago

Haha I finally realized that. Democrats should probably spend their time and money elsewhere because I doubt many people here would vote for the GOP anyways.

[-] -1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Ah, I think it's neck-and-neck, between him and his 'less-evil twin.'

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

haha

[-] 1 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

You don't take medicaid.? maybe your part of the problem. Sell you health insurance stocks by 2013 if Dems win. hold if repubs win.

[-] 0 points by Mooks (1985) 11 years ago

Like I said, I would take them but I would either have to lose money for each and every patient I saw or start offering substandard care. I don't think either of those choices is a particularly good idea. That is why I volunteer at the Medicaid clinic a couple of days per month - if I was getting paid that clinic it would not exist long because the reimbursements are so low.

Thanks for the stock advice.

A piece of serious advice though that you can feel free to pass on to others. If you are on Medicaid and you need dental work, please make sure the clinic you go to is a non-profit clinic like a Federally Qualified Health Center. A for-profit dental practice that accepts Medicaid patients is likely using very cheap (possibly black market) materials and hire dentists that the "system" has rejected because they suck. It is the only way you can see Medicaid patients and make a profit. That being said, the FQHC that I volunteer at offers pretty good care for those on Medicaid, but it is a non-profit obviously.

[-] -2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

downvoted for speaking truth... this forum is going downhill

[-] 1 points by Mooks (1985) 11 years ago

Haha I know. It probably equally upsets both Republicans and Democrats.

[-] 0 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

yeah it's the "Obama or die trio"

it might even be a quatro...

that's what I call them.

It's 3 or 4 people on this forum that follow each other around pushing the message that anything that isn't in favor of Obama is republican support. It's quite hilarious.

I have no problem with Obama supporters or people supporting Obama because they don't like Romney... but "the Obama or die" people are the democrat equivalent to a Rush Limbaugh.

[-] 2 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

The "Three Amigos" to borrow a phrase from hchc.

[-] 0 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

lol

yeah i'm done arguing with them. Their theory is that everything is Nader's fault. They say that and completely disregard money in politics. They say the drone strikes in non-battle zones are okay because Osama is dead even though Osama was not killed by a drone strike.

There is no point in talking to them anymore. I've tried. But all that happens is they call me a Romney supporter for speaking out against the murder under these wars.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Exactly. I've been ignoring them completely, except in a rare case. I have plenty to say to them, but, like you said, it's a useless endeavor. Like talking to a wall.

No, actually its worse. Walls aren't quite as annoying. Unless your drunk, that is. Then they're annoying as hell. ;-)

[-] 0 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

That's been happening with increased regularity as you have no doubt noticed.

[-] -2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

there are a lot of morons in the world and they're on both sides of the spectrum.

They're like the same people that told me to "fuck off" for holding a sign that asked "Why have we bombed 5 countries in the past 12 months?"

[-] -1 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

Well, the two guys that made the video claim that they will vote for Obama in 2012. They just want him to follow through on his promises.

[-] 1 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

Maybe republican obstruction, delay, filibuster abuse, watering down of legislation has created too many obstacles. Perhaps the people who voted for him went back to sleep after the election. Like FDR said "I agree with all your progressive agenda items now make me do it". Maybe the people who voted for him didn't understand when he said "we are the change we've been waiting for" I never expected Pres Obama to accomplish as much as he has. It is amazing he has gotten so much done in the face of the massive 1% oligarchal republican resistance. Perhaps we expected too much, I mean the country has been moving right for 30yrs. What fool thought 1 guy would undue that in 1 term? Perhaps the people who voted for him didn't realize they had to get out on the streets and work for change. 1% oligarchs and their republican tools will not give up power easily. It will take all of us working for years.

[-] 0 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

Well, it was not only one guy. For 24 months Obama had a majority in both the House and Senate. If you can't get it done under those conditions then when?

Maybe the take-away from the video should be that the makers want these issues (and others) addressed in the next four years in exchange for support in 2012.

Or maybe the take away is that Gov has way too much power over the people, neither party can be trusted to do the right thing, and it's time to work toward reducing that power.

[-] 0 points by Odin (583) 11 years ago

Reducing that "power" over the people over the people is what we are here for.

[-] 0 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

That may be, however much of what I read in this forum advocates policy and politicians that increase Gov power.

[-] 0 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

"obama had a majority in both the House and Senate" That is a blatant republican talking point.!! Honest people know that the republicans obstructed, delayed, watered down, with filibuster abuse during those 2 years and the next 2 years. The video is just anti Obama. Posting it is the same. Your allowed, so are they. But it doesn't change the fact that republican policies, and obstruction are at the center of our problems. Your ignoring of that is instructive. And although I agree govt has too much power, our problems are related directly to the republican policies and obstruction we've been subjected too..

[-] -1 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

What did you expect that the Repubs would do, roll over and play dead? Of course they will obstruct. But the job of the executive is to execute. Get the job done. Excuses are for losers, and nobody wants to vote for a loser.

I guess I am really tired of hearing why things can't get done. I want to elect someone that will say nothing and let their accomplishments drown out the whining opponents.

You say four years are not enough? In 1945 the US liberated the world fighting a war on four fronts in four continents. In just 4 years; and there was plenty of obstruction.

[-] 1 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

No obstruction to American wwII policy. Much support from the allies as well. This is not 1945! I expected things would go just as they did. I am perfectly satisfied that Pres accomplished all that he did in the face of expected 1% oligarcs resistance. The critics are naive, regarding expectations. Only a fool would think we could get more done without the people rising up and forcing change. I am not offering excuses just trying to educate you to the realities of the world. He got a lot done!! Your expectations are unreasonable, and naive. We now have a budding movement that could serve as the push all progressives need to get more done. But not if we attack the party who supports OWS! Then we are serving the 1% republican oligarc tools.

[-] 0 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

There was plenty of obstruction from within the US and from without in 1941. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_non-interventionism

There were other obstructions:

4000 miles of Atlantic Ocean

7000 miles of Pacific ocean

Small US standing army

Almost no military equipment manufacturing infrastructure (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/03/business/in-freedoms-forge-us-industry-as-war-hero-review.html?_r=1)

The Nazis obstructed.

The Soviets obstructed (for a while).

The Japanese obstructed .

The Italians obstructed. Well, the Italians couldn't obstruct a toilet with 5 pounds of over cooked pasta, but I digress.

The US accomplished all of this in spite of the obstructions because Americans had the guts and they had great leadership. Both of which today are lacking.

[-] 1 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

You're living in the past and comparing apples & oranges. That was then and this is now. Everything is different now. Now we have a country that has moved to the right for 30 years. The MIC is thoroughly entrenched. The people have been convinced that giving more money to the 1% will trickle down, that the "endless war on terror" is justification to give up our rights, and getting justice through the progressive policies we need are being obstructed by the oligarcs tools (the republicans). That obstruction is not the same as military adversaries. Can't be compared. And your comment about Italians was offensive and borders on racist. You got a problem with Italians?. Are you better than Italians?

[-] 0 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

You don't think that the US was more right wing in 1941 than it is today? They had Jim Crow, illegal abortion, and Japanese internment camps.

Dems along with Obama approved the latest version of the Patriot Act in 2011. Why are those limits on our freedom any better than what the Repubs can come up with. The problem is that they all have too much control over our lives.

Italian military ineptitude in WWII is well documented and not debatable; and last time I checked Italians were not a separate race, just unlucky at picking the right side in a war.

[-] 0 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

Italians had indoor plumbing 2000 yrs ago. You don't know what you're talking about. You mention patriot act, attack dems and Pres Obama and leave out thefactthat republicans created that civil rights violation and created the atmosphere of fear that allowed all the violations (ndaa, warrentless wiretaps) we are living with. Why don't you mention the architects? Republicans get a pass from you? And no the country was clearly living in the zenith of liberal times under FDR. You really think differently?

[-] -1 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

Have I given anyone a pass?

Repubs and Dems are both uncontrollably intent on taking away our rights because they believe that we are sheep that need to be led for our own good.

FDR was a liberal? He sent a ship load of Jews back to certain death in Nazi concentration camps. He was the ultimate elitist. He wanted control of everything, including the Supreme Court.

camp.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Abandonment_of_the_Jews

http://www.reformation.org/supreme-court.html

BTW the Italians made their water pipes out of lead which quickly drove them mad and their empire went belly-up. Nothing to brag about.

[-] 2 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

Democrats were the party of the racists. But FDR started to change that and by the time of Nixon the republicans became the party of racists, and anti gay, and anti womens rights, and anti immigrant, pretty much anti everything but white men. this is a good illustration of how the republicans are the root of all our problems.

[-] 0 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

Do you really believe that in 1968 when Nixon was elected there were fewer racist Dems than Repubs? Repubs passed the civil rights act in the face of over whelming Democrat obstruction.

The irony is that 150 years ago Democrats kept black slaves on plantations. Now Democrats have put blacks (and many poor whites) back in slavery. Blacks are given just enough money and other free stuff to make them Democrat slaves. If they vote against Dems they cut their own throats.

As De Tocqueville wrote:

"All democracies are doomed once the people discover they can vote themselves largess."

This may surprise you:

[-] 2 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

Oh you don't know the difference between Egyptian and Africa? Since Egypt is on the African continent then obviously all Africans are Egyptian. No wonder you attack dems and give republicans a pass. You really don't understand basic concepts. My apologize. Just know that we can achieve great things if we recognize that republicans have created our problems and the best thing we can do is deny them any more power.

[-] -1 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

My exact heritage is uncertain. It may have been Egypt. As you may know there was a time in the US when such records were destroyed by slave holders; and many of them were Democrats. I suppose that might be one reason that Martin Luther King (along with his father) chose to be a Republican.

[-] 2 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

Oh and you're Egyptian? I disagree!

[-] -1 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

African. Last time I checked Egypt was still on the continent.

[-] 1 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

It ain't racist at all. You got a problem with Italians and are trying to distract from the fact that you only attack Pres Obama and the Dems and never attack the republicans. The republicans and their agenda have created our problems you refuse to recognize that and your silence provides the republicans cover.

[-] -1 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

The Repubs and Dems are two ends of the same turd. They both simply want the power to tell you what to do. To steal your liberty. They want to send your kids to war, tell you how much soda you can drink, torture caged prisoners, take your money and borrow against your children's future, then tell you how to feed your children, execute the mentally ill, tell you how to light your house, and what kind of toilet you can use.

What additional evidence do you need?

We should be united in the effort to diminish Gov power over us. They are not the solution to the problem, they are the problem.

[-] 0 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

All the problems we face have their roots in republican/conservative policies.Your distractions with WWII, anti Italian ism, FDR, 1968, 150 yrs ago, It's all irrelevant. Today and for the last 30 years, republican supply side, trickle down economics have fucked the economy and the 99%.

[-] 0 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

"lights"? "soda"? sounds more like a rant than evidence. Our problems are directly related to republican policies. We can improve our situation if we deny republicans more power and protest/pressure all pols to pass the progressive laws we need to correct these republican created problems

[-] 0 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 11 years ago

They ruled the world while your people were living in caves. FDR WAS a liberal notwithstanding his mistakes with the Jews or SCOTUS. Although his attempts to pack the court was about circumventing right wing wackos. So that action was clearly in support of liberal goals. This is all just meaningless distractions. Pres Obama has succeeded beyond reasonable expectations, the right wing republican 1% tools still stand in the way. Get rid of those criminals and we will get more progressive solutions. In regards to too much govt control, the people have to rise up for any of these things to change.

[-] -1 points by 1sealyon (434) 11 years ago

Your people? My people lived in Africa and the Egyptians were building one of the 7 wonders of the world and the greatest library on earth when Rome was a savage backwater.

Your people? Now that is definitely racist.

[-] -2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

why does this comment have negative votes?

[-] -1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Because the shills down-vote the person, not the comment. If you get on their bad side by criticizing Obama, they'll down-vote everything you say from now on. That's why they started attacking you. Watch how fast this comment of mine goes into the negative.

Well, actually I just played my card so they'll probably leave it alone just to prove me wrong. Notice, though, that I didn't edit it. For a reason. They're not too bright, but you probably see that for yourself.

What are the plans for 2013 that will help get Americans back to being good little consumers, err, I mean, the plans to help get Americans back to work?

Ya might wanna rephrase it, of course. But then, . . .

[-] -3 points by funkytown (-374) 11 years ago

Ask him one more time, if his "new" plan is going to tax me more.

[-] -2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

it's not. Your income taxes are actually lower than under the Bush administration.

Unless you're super super rich. Then yes he'd like to tax you more... but only a 3% increase. I'd like to see it go pre-reagan

If this president would address monetary policy and reform... we could lower taxes for all and fund REAL universal healthcare without forcing people to buy private insurance.
