A New York State assemblyman from the Hudson Valley was charged with marijuana possession after he was stopped for speeding, the authorities said on Friday.

The assemblyman, Stephen M. Katz, 59, a Republican from Mohegan Lake, was found with a “small bag” of marijuana when stopped on Thursday, the State Police said in a statement. Assemblyman Katz was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation that is punishable by a fine of up to $100.

The assemblyman, who is a member of the chamber’s Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, voted against a bill last year that would have legalized medical marijuana.

Hhmmm - wonder if he will try to defend himself ( now ) with marijuana should be legal under the constitution as a personal choice freedom.

Well he really doesn't need to defend himself just pay a fine since 25 grams or under is just a violation, but still it is hypocritical to the fullest.

OH - but he does need to defend himself - he's in office and just broke the law - what will his constituents think about a criminal being in-office to represent them? Why he's an ILLEGAL Drug user. Wonder if he might say - I don't Inhale.

I doubt his republican friends jump ship but you never know.

I agree and any political party that wants to mount a challenge to the status quo should adapt and adopt the direct democratic provisions provided in the old bull-moose parties platform.

The platform also urged states to adopt measures for "direct democracy", including: The recall election (citizens may remove an elected official before the end of his term) The referendum (citizens may decide on a law by popular vote) The initiative (citizens may propose a law by petition and enact it by popular vote) Judicial recall (when a court declares a law unconstitutional, the citizens may override that ruling by popular vote) However, the main theme of the platform was an attack on the domination of politics by business interests, which allegedly controlled both established parties. The platform asserted that

Yes, Great insights.

How did we loose our way? Wars, communist purges, more wars, neocon unified strategy and ignorance of facts, propaganda, materialism

The republican party is splintering between the libertarians and neo-cons, the democratic party is fractured between the new left and the old left and has been for 20 years. Now is the time to found a party that appeals to classic american principals of individual liberty and social progress. Both parties spend out of control. Both are behind the american peoples general opinions on social issues. Both parties are in the pockets of corporations and run the economy for their benefit. The time is now.

i twinkle that.

how will the new party get on equal footing with duopoly suppression, media black out, money for campaign out financed?

see current green and justice parties.

Social media and human capital. Those parties obviously have a problem with their fundamental delivery of messages. It is foolish to appeal to the sentiments they do. By appealing to fundamental american pie principals (libertarian and progressive ideals of liberty, accountability, and progress) with the proper packaging and delivery we can grab a chunk of the electorate from the disintegrating republican party, we can dominate the independents, and take all the progressives. Ideas are a product like anything else in the free market they have to be packaged and sold correctly.

The new "Bull Moose Party" idea has more integrity than the duopoly together.

Good marketing strategy. Better get started soon. Takes time to get on ballots.

Current parties and system very broken for us
