Forum Post: Not to be a Downer- but Numbers Are Down!!!

Posted 11 years ago on June 15, 2012, 7:18 p.m. EST by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Im a huge supporter, been to about 30 GA's. Helped recruit all sorts of people to attend.

The issue of why numbers are down NEEDS to be addressed. The economy and war issues are not better. The numbers should be going up.

What happened. I have my thoughts. What are yours?

The crash was far worse than the public was made aware of. We needed a New Deal, we got a raw deal. We needed our political system to fire on all eight cylinders, we got tea party republicans. We need to put the banksters in jail, not give them better accommodations on capital hill. We needed real banking and political reform, we got b/s to placate the public.

so what are the solutions?

[-] 3 points by francismjenkins (3713) 11 years ago

There are no solutions forthcoming in the near term. I can say what I think we should do, but none of it will happen. We need Glass Steagall, overturn Citizens United, participatory democracy, a program for cooperatives and employee owned companies, rebuild our infrastructure, expand our public colleges, relief for student loan and mortgage borrowers, probably a value added tax to deal with unfair trade, a real alternative energy program, stop spending money on patriot acts and homeland security and prisons and police and a futile drug war (and instead spend on education and healthcare), stop attacking Medicare and social security .... etc.

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

You cant get any of that without a public that wants it.

What are the solutions to this massive apathy and ignorance?

I dont see anything working with the masses.

[-] 4 points by francismjenkins (3713) 11 years ago

This is something we have to deal with as a movement. We need to figure out how to evolve, adapt, adjust to changing circumstances, grow, refine our message, become better organized, more professional, better planning, more partnering with like minded organizations, etc. If we become irrelevant, I'm afraid the American people lose their most vibrant voice.

[-] 1 points by arturo (3169) from Shanghai, Shanghai 11 years ago

Unfortunately, most people don't act until they suffer. If our problems aren't solved, by many of the suggestions that you made, the suffering will increase, hopefully motivating more people to act.

Baloney. The Barackster had two years where he owned the House, Senate and White House. He chose to squander it on an unconstitutional health insurance mandate and a stimulus that was big enough to pay off 90% of all residential mortgages in the U.S., but that he directed to ACORN and other BS enterprises as payola. Don't blame the Tea Party. You pushed Hope and Change (AKA the Democrat Party) and screwed everyone for corrupt means.

[-] 3 points by francismjenkins (3713) 11 years ago

Dude, this goes in the "gibberish" bla, bla, bla (who gives a fuck) category. I mean, I don't blame the tea party for anything, they're a bunch of red neck idiots (it would be like blaming a child or mentally challenged adult for their misdeeds). If it's any consolation, there's plenty of intellectual midgets on the left as well.

Numbers are down in our local group too. People have adapted to bad times, the new normal.

Media Divide and Conquer all over OWS.....

Very frustrating.

[-] 1 points by ediblescape (235) 11 years ago

"We're finding less people living in tents, but we're finding more people sitting around kitchen tables, and more people meeting up in cafes," said Ed Needham, a spokesman for Occupy Wall Street. "There's an awful lot of decentralized organization going on."

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

But when the rallies take place, the numbers are a shadow of what they were.

[-] 1 points by ediblescape (235) 11 years ago

Rallies waked up people. It's time to go to communities with real solution.

Elected officials should not spend any time raising money for reelection. Their time should be spent working to improve our country. Somehow we must unite and insist that our political process change. We must refuse to vote for any candidate that doesn't agree to represent us on this issue. We have to get money out of politics before we can accomplish anything else!

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Yes, the fact that these clowns are not scurrying to get something doen before the election just shows how much they dont care about us.

[-] 2 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

There are things for even the "clowns" to do before the election in November. In the 2010 congressional election, we saw the excisions of many Democrats because they had insisted (to Obama and their congressional leadership) that NOTHING hard or controversial be done before the election. That led to the Tea Party gaining a lot of political ground and the Democrats had very little to show even with their super majority and dominance of both the executive and legislative branches. Will the "clowns" not learn their lessons until an elephant gores them out of the circus? Cash the check before it expires.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Clowns, elephants, donkeys. All the same, all in it for the money.

All could care less about doing anything productive.

[-] 2 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

Your fracas below with slizzo regarding 9/11 truthers may benefit from a little bit of toning down for the sake of the OWS movement. By and large our government has people who WANT to do the right things. A few days before 9/11, there WAS warning issued but it was not targeted at the appropriate people. Some tried but failed so give our government a little break. Even George W. Bush who had fumbled so badly tried to do the right thing eventually, overruling the hyper-partisanship (such as to allow punishment of Scooter Libby's leak of Valerie Plame's CIA agent identity) advocated by some in his administration. Can Obama overcome the same in his administration? Are we Americans first or are we Democrats or Republicans first?

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Im an American first. And I dont see a whole lot of people in Congress willing to put their "careers" - shouldnt be a career to begin with- on the line to say what needs to be said.

[-] 2 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

We as Americans can put ourselves into such a mess -- we can get ourselves out of it, too. However much our founding fathers had distrusted the masses, they did put indirect democracy into the hands of the people, including the means to dissolve it (and there is quite a lot of the "ultimate power" distributed around the country already). There are many people who do not know nor do not want to know and do not care. The time will come when they will change their minds. There are even some who will fight against necessary changes but their actions and stupidities will speak for themselves. If Congress people do not say what needs to be said, maybe you should say it, instead -- a first amendment right.

GA's that led to nothing.

[-] -1 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

Truthers utterly DESTROYED any chance ows had of gaining traction. That and the mind-boggling silly combination of huge govt leftists and no govt anarchists.

[-] 1 points by writerconsidered123 (344) 11 years ago

a govt anarchist is an oxymoron

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

The above three were the ones that started it. And it was gaining traction very quickly.

You forget that 91% of the people are sick of Congress.

[-] 0 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

Yep, they started it. And the mental illness of truthers plus the diametrically opposed philosophy of the other 2 doomed it from the start.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

I would have to say that the involvement of the media, and its portrayal of this as nothing more than a Obama campaign rally, along with the right saying only negative things, had more to do with it.

That and the focus of in camp stuff instead of action.

[-] 1 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

Obama campaign rally? Wow, I never saw anything close to that.

Camp over action, for sure helped. (hurt?)

You don't think despicable scumbag truthers and the opposite philosophies were a fault?

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

The truthers certainly werent. The entire thing was about people who no longer trust their gov to do the right thing, that corporations make all the decisions.

If you didnt catch the biases by MSNBC and FOX in their coverage you just missed it.

In camp nonsense dictated WAY TOO MUCH time in the grand scheme of things.

[-] 1 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

I don't know what to tell you, I watch a good amount of fox and msdnc and I never saw ows characterized as an Obama rally.

Are you saying the truthers didn't harm the movement's credibility? Are you a truther?

[-] 2 points by Puzzlin (2898) 11 years ago

Don't you mean birther Slizzo?........................LoL

Your new to these parts aren't you. Or are you like a cat with nine lives?

Does the truth hurt you Slizzo?

By the way, nice name. It says allot about you. Nice choice.

Just Puzzlin

[-] 1 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

Truthers make northers look merely nuts.

Are you a truther?

Am I harming your little echo chamber? Awww....

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

I am saying the truthers didnt harm its credibility, any more so than truthers in the tea did.

The media doesnt usually cover the truther stuff, they prefer not to get into it for obvious reasons.

I do find it interesting how a group of terrorists who learned to fly on little planes in Florida were able to take them over, and fly them with no radar from western PA all the way back to NYC and hit their target dead on. Havent found a pilot yet that can do that, but somehow these lunatics could.

[-] 1 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

So you are a truther.

Please, for your loved ones, seek mental help.

Any pilot could find NY and DC from western PA. Im not a pilot and I could do it easily. And what does their training have to do with the ability to take over a plane?

Google wtc7 lies. Read the whole thing. Do not fall down that disgusting rabbit hole,

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

You apparently havent ever been to pennsylvania. They call it pennsyl-tucky for a reason.

If you still believe the gov after Tonkin, then you need the mental help.

That led to 60k deaths.

[-] 1 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

Ive been there hundreds of times. What goes on on the ground...are you kidding me? How does that matter. Point west (something anyone with half a brain' including any pilot, can do) and you hit NJ. From there to DC or NY...only an imbecile wouldn't find them. Ever look at a map?

Tonkin! Right on schedule, you can set your watch to it, So, so incredibly predictable. And, like always, the implication that if you aren't a truther you must believe everything the govt says and think they never ever did anything bad.

Sorry, but Tonkin has ZERO to do with 9/11. neither does northwoods.

Dylan Avery doesn't even believe inside job anymore. If he can admit he was wrong, anyone can.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Well they lie about the UE rate, they lie about inflation, they lie about the Fed, they lie about just about anything and everything, and have for a very very long time.

You go ahead and trust them. Ignorance is bliss.

Im not sure what happened, but I know the official story from a corrupted organization is probably not it.

[-] 0 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

So it's all or nothing? Since they lie about some things, they lie about every thing? That's how children think. What's your excuse?

Did the 200 world class engineers and scientists with careers and reputations to uphold all lie in the NIST report? Were they in on it, too? And the 800 engineers and scientists they consulted? Are the 220,000 combined members of the AIA and ASCE all wrong? Did the iconic and nationally beloved WTC7 have to come down because the nation just wasn't going to be angry enough to go to war without it? Did dozens of FDNY members who said large fires and damage at 7 lie? Or were they in on it? How about when they talked about collapse hours beforehand? Lying? In on it? What about the airphone calls to loved ones from the hijacked planes? Fake conversations from robots? What about the confession? Do you reject it based on one single shit quality still frame and ignore the rest of the video that shows known associates no one claims are impostors? I could go on and on and on and you won't take any of this in. Truthers treat this like religion and they are fundamentalists. Nothing gets in the way of the fantasy. All facts are ignored.

You keep pissing on 3000 graves, ok? Are you upset there isn't an OBL grave to place flowers on? After all, he was the one you defend with your offensive bullshit, truther.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Alex Jones? I suppose you could get a job with him too.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Now Im pissing on graves and defending OBL.

You sure do make your own stories, dont you?

You should go work for FOX or MSNBC with all this sensationalistic nonsense you spit. You'd fit right in!!

[-] 0 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

"Now Im pissing on graves and defending OBL"

Yes. And if you are too dim to see that,no wonder the truther fairytale males sense to you. You should ask Alex Jones for a job. Nothing makes him happier than the gullible and clueless.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

You cant answer anything either.

What do you NOT believe that your gov tells you? Lets start there.

[-] 1 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

Yeah, I'll get right on that. In the meantime, keep pissing on 3000 graves and in the faces of the victim's survivors. Not to mention defending OBL.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Who said anything about OBL?

Go to NYC if you want to find all the truthers.

Im simply saying I dont believe an organization that has proven to lie us into wars, and lies about pretty much anyhting and everything.

All the politicians lie. They all lie their asses off.

You believe what you want, which is the official press release version.

Go to NYC and ask around a bit, you may be suprised.

[-] 0 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

You don't have to mention OBL. By denying his responsibility, you defend his mass murder. Has that never occurred to you? Are you braindead? Or is your critical thinking somewhere at the pre-school level.

Truthers in NY, like everywhere else, are dwindling. Shame catches up to some people.

Go to NYC and find a fire dept. Explain to them that you think firemen lied about 7. When you awake from your coma, apologize to them.

And, to yourself--not me, answer the questions I asked you. When you can't, try to admit you're wrong about everything regarding 9/11.

Then, stop pissing on those graves.

[-] -1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

I would love to see the look on your face when you went there and got answers you werent expecting.

Some of them think it, along with many military.

And your assertions lead me to believe you have some critical skills that need help.

[-] 0 points by slizzo (-96) 11 years ago

Must be why you can answer anything. Bring up Tonkin again, that passes for evidence among you clowns.

[-] -2 points by JonFromSLC (-107) from West Valley City, UT 11 years ago
