This is not a forum post. I am concerned about all of you out on the east coast - not just New York but North South and West of New York - as it is clear already today that you all have taken quite a pounding. I know that you must be very busy dealing with the aftermath of the storm and many may not be able to get on-line to communicate. I pray that you are all OK and that I will see you back here again. May God Bless You All.

No matter what else we disagree on, upon this we can and I do agree. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you. If you need anything at all, I hope you'll post it here and give us a chance to help you out if we can.

We are all absolutely concerned regarding the safety of friends and family across this nation, as well as our friends (haven't heard much about this) in other countries who are experiencing devastation from other weather catastrophes that took place yesterday and past weeks as well. http://www.aljazeera.com/weather/ Do we ever think about what is really happening and why?

Make another post - this is not a forum post but an expression of concern for others in the aftermath of the Hurricane coming ashore and the continuing storm as it slowly dissipates.

Talk about global warming and pollution on a different post.

Many NY'rs lost everything. A few died (still counting) Many, many still without power. The subway will be out for the rest of the week (at least)

Bridges starting to reopen, Airports still closed. Flooding is the biggest problem now, but Pres Obama is sending the army corp of engineers national unwatering swat team so I guess everything will be fine soon.

Near me we all held out breath that the toxic superfund sewage laden Gowanus canal would not overflow.

It did overflow. And the blocks nearest to it have flooded. Catastrophic! People cannot touch the oil, PCB, sewage laced residue until the EPA deals with it.

http://www.gowanusyourfaceoff.com/category/brooklyn-3/gowanus/

It did not reach my home. I was spared any measurable damage.

Thanx for you good wishes. I extend them to all the millions who are still dealing with these disasters.

Peace.

There is an advisory out in areas - not to drink the water - boiling it will not make it safe to drink - use bottled water only. Glad you made it through ok VQ. I hope to see others check in as the day goes by - but I expect many will not be able to for awhile.

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

I have heard those warning for Long Beach Long Island specifically because sewage has infiltrated the drinking water wells. Could be other locations I haven't heard as well.

We (in Brooklyn) are fortunate to get our water from upstate reservoirs

Gov Cuomo to Pres Obama "It seems we have hundred year storms every 2 years" (climate change evidence?)

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Flooding now being reported as far east as lake Michigan.

Early reports yesterday were asking about climate change - I saw that the experts were stating that Hurricane season goes through the month of November. Only a couple reports talked about three storm fronts coming together feeding the power of the hurricane.

This storm ( reduced in strength ) is expected to continue dumping snow ( blizzards and heavy snow in parts of the Appalachians ) and rain further into the week.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

It is devastating! Affecting 60Million American.!

Good thought for Safety for all!

There are a minimum of three more days of this storm - as stated today - reduced winds - but a lot of water to fall yet either as rain or snow. People if you do not have to travel - DON'T. If you are in areas that are safe to travel - you may well want to get out and pick-up some bottled water - enough for at least a week - in case your power goes out as this "reduced" storm continues.

Sanitation is going to be the big problem.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Absolutely - sanitation as well as power - power will be less dangerous only in that it is an obvious condition - whereas sanitation/pollution will be harder to detect as flooding continues - disease/poisoning from bad sanitation is a large killer.

The server has been out for me for about fifteen hours. Was keeping up with the news through another forum I frequent.

On the climate change issue, some reports say that ocean surface temperatures were up four degrees F, and other sites beg to differ.

There was one report that said that it's the first time a blizzard warning came with a hurricane alert.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Hey Builder - yeah - I don't know how long the site was down ( OWS ) - but I guestimate about 10 hours from looking at the comment activity when I checked in this morning.

One expert - and he looked a bit uncomfortable having been asked - stated that the Hurricane season normally stretches through the month of November - looking uncomfortable - he went on to say that they are usually in lower latitudes.

I didn't intend for this (this) post to be about speculation on the storm and have asked others to address that issue on another post.

I just put up this post this morning as I am concerned for those who have been pounded by and continue to be affected by the continuing storm.

This looks like a good time to OWS

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

What a stupid comment.

[-] -2 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

Obviously a poor choice of words on his part. I believe OWS should call for a postponement of the election. People in affected areas shouldn't be faced with voting next Tuesday, it's too soon. It would be cynical to say this is an opportunity for OWS but we should step up and try to help. Postpone for 1-2 weeks.

Who lives on wal street? all they are doing is repairing buildings

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

The storm over a thousand miles in diameter - did not just affect WallStreet - currently there are reports of over 8 million people without power right now. Major fire in Queens. You are an asshole - to make your initial comment then to follow-up with your 2nd stupid comment.

[-] -2 points by jdjohn1990 (3) 11 years ago

interesting

[-] 0 points by jdjohn1990 (3) 11 years ago

Well i hope they are all safe and well. I hope no one is harmed by this storm. However, there are layers of danger. One which effects our well being and one that effects our wallets. When the threat to humanity passes and the opportunity arises to Occupy we should not hesitate to act.

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

However? However? There is no however!

heartless, selfish, moron.

[-] 1 points by jdjohn1990 (3) 11 years ago

There is a distinction and i believe that there is a way to make an impact in a manor which will not endanger lives and send a powerful message.

[-] -1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Now is not the time to seek advantage, or opportunity.

Now is the time to come together as a human being to care for those in need.

Otherwise what are we? Conservatives? Libertarians? Shudder the thought!

[-] 1 points by jdjohn1990 (3) 11 years ago

"When the threat to Humanity passes and the opportunity arises" to protest the reconstruction of wall street at tax payers expense comes, we should protest this gross mis-allocation.

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Your efforts are misplaced.

Focus on helping people in need.

This is the wrong time.

"A time to gain, a time to lose

A time to rend, a time to sew

A time for love, a time for hate

A time for peace, I swear it's not too late"

Sorry.

Peace, Good luck in all your good efforts.

[-] 1 points by jdjohn1990 (3) 11 years ago

there is a thread for this. My efforts are in the right place. I have said to wait until you and your neighbor are safe

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Whatever. I feel so much solidarity with you now.

Can't wait.

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Please move your mercenary thoughts to a post of your own.

[-] 1 points by jdjohn1990 (3) 11 years ago

My ideas are moral, i think you may have misunderstood. I do not want to endanger lives or pull help away from where it is needed. I am saying that when the situation is no longer critical it is not unethical to protest the reconstruction of system.

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Please take and start a new post to address that.

[-] 1 points by jdjohn1990 (3) 11 years ago

alright i will do that. Good luck to all

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

There are 10's of thousands of people living near Wall st.
