As the NYTimes article describes the current efforts to "save the Euro"... which seems to be an on going soap opera with the same cliff hanging ending every episode... "Will the Euro survive?" or not... one needs to look behind the scene to see what is really going on. This is what I see.

Europe... and the rest of the world, is completely taken hostage by the capitalistic whimsy of a casino market. Profiteers, like pirates on the open ocean looking for the next booty, are now leveraging huge bets to see if they can profit on Italy, Spain and any other weak government in Europe. And its a vicious cycle, the more they leverage, the more they drive interest rates up by shorting bonds (selling bonds) which make more people short more bonds and drive up the interest and on and on and on until pop goes the nation.

Who will be left behind to pay for the consequences? The common, citizen. The you and I of those countries. Remember, those who have massive wealth move their money around to places like Swiss banks, offshore holding in the Bahamas etc. If the country goes down, they just move on.

I hope the citizens of these troubled Europe countries can get a grip on their governments and get those who have the resources to pay up a fair share of what is owed. It's not just us that are having issues with the proverbial 1%, its basically all over the world...

This didn't work so well for Jon Corzine. Nor all the shlubs who believed in him. Just sayin...

You can profit too. Look at the National Bank of Greece (ticker NBG). It is dirt cheap right now. You can buy the stock or even buy options with nothing more than an online brokerage account. I personally have a long term call spread on it. Like you said, people are going to make billions off of this, I might as well get some of it for myself.
