Forum Post: Let's Call Medicare What it Really is...

A stimulus program to cover healthcare for the elderly and the disabled.

This program is awesome.

On top of saving people's lives, this program is essentially a stimulus program where almost every dollar spent goes directly back into the economy creating jobs in the healthcare industry.

Of all the forms of "stimulus" or "subsidy" ... Medicare is one of the best. A good cause and a good industry to spend money on.

Improvements are great! But don't let them pass off cutting benefits as a good idea.

Lol, I know. I have no clue what people see in Obamacare or Romneycare. They could have just expanded Medicare for everyone and consolidated a for-profit system that would be quicker than public HC. We need two systems but one than covers everyone must come first.

Originally it was thought that Medicare would expand to lower and lower age groups over the years. . . . Oh, well.

Obama/Romney Care was originally thought up by the Heritage Foundation as a strategy to prevent the expansion of Medicare. . . . And the Fox Liars News calls it socialism?????

I'm amazed when they say they should raise the age for Medicare, when, in fact, they should be lowering the age. WTF is wrong with these people? Medicare works very well, like you say, and including more and more people in it would benefit our society greatly, just maybe not the wealthy who own stocks and the insurance companies.

Those advocating the raising of age for social security qualification as well as for medicare are hoping more will die before they begin collecting and that those who actually survive to retirement wont survive for long while they collect on their benefits.

Yeah, just like FDR envisioned when he proposed SSI. Do some research on avg liife spans in the 30's. Most people worked til the day they died. If they were unable to work and had no family they were in trouble. SSI was meant to force the working class to save for a rainy day/ My mother retired at 67 and lived to 92. That is not what FDR was imagining.

automation of has changed to much

[-] 1 points by beautifulworld (23767) 11 years ago

As I said, I'm amazed.

What is amazing is they are not called out for this shit in outrage by the public.

[-] 1 points by beautifulworld (23767) 11 years ago

The level of apathy in this country is truly shocking.

It is like everyone is drugged they are so lethargic about some things. But then too many people are beginning to show signs of life.

The idea of raising health care is to adjust for the longer lifespan of people. We are a safer race and have more regulations that protect us from cancers and chemicals. Life has made things simpler on us the times and laws must reflect this.

of course it should be raise eventually it will be raised to 80 and that will be when our life expectancies are at 100

Medicare is great and perfect program

We must lower the age that medicare covers. Early retirement is better for younger people jobs prospects.

Medicare needs to include contributions from all levels of payroll, No cap to protect thewealthy.

We should introduce a tax on cap gains specifically for Social Security, & medicare (2%).

Finally we should means test the distribution of the benefit so that the wealthy do not get free health care.

That'll keep things going for decades.

[-] 2 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

why must we lower it

does medicare not receive money from all working employees/employers i know my checks and my bosses went into it.

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Medicare is funded by payroll deductions. But the deductions stop at $100k or so I believe.

So that "limit" must be removed and a tax on cap gains for medicare & Social Security should be imposed. These steps along with means testing will allow us to expand Medicare to younger people. Which we need to do in order to cut healthcare ins costs for all Americans.

Agreed?

[-] 2 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

if everyone paid the same percentage of their pay check then yes agreed

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

I would prefer the lowest pay a lower percent. an increase at say @ $50k, then another @ $100k perhaps.

You know progressive concepts, not regressive.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

perhaps this could work but i would need to see the numbers

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Progressive dude! Not regressive.!

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

Again we would have to see the numbers to see if we are indeed being progressive

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

I understand. Perhaps then you can agree with the concept. and the goal of being progressive.

Obviously I can't work out every number. Just as I didn't expect you to.

[-] 1 points by DanielBarton (1345) 11 years ago

yes i agree with the concept

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Hallelujah!

Peace Good luck in all your good efforts.

[-] -1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

We must allow medicare to negotiate with big pharma for lower costs!!

We should be complaining/protesting against the politicians who have stood against this simple concept.

They are serving corp 1% oligarchs!

We should support the politicians/party who is pushing for this change that will help the 99%.

What do you think?

[-] 1 points by NVPHIL (664) 11 years ago

I agree. Medicare needs to be expanded to all. I would much rather have my medical care go through the gov instead of for profit insurance companies.

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Without a doubt.

My monthly premium should not pay for obscene exec compensation, huge profit, lobbying costs, and advertising. Let's get that crap out of health ins costs and people will be better off, and the govt deficit will shrink as well
