Forum Post: Keith Olberman: Mainstream Voice of Occupy Wall Street

For five months, "Countdown" was the sole news program at the station. Olbermann was given creative freedom with the program and decided to use it to bring awareness to Occupy Wall Street. When other news programs made little mention of the Occupy movement, Olbermann would have entire programs devoted to interviews and analysis of OWS and OWS events. It was Olbermann's keen perception of the importance of the movement that helped catapult Occupy into the mainstream limelight.

In his program that aired September 21st, 2011 he asked, "Why isn't any major news outlet covering this? If that’s a tea party protest in front of Wall Street about Ben Bernanke putting stimulus funds into it, it’s the lead story on every network news cast. How is that disconnect possible in this country today with so many different outlets and so many different ways of transmitting news?”

It was in large part to Keith Olbermann that the American public was made aware that the Occupy movement was more serious than what the other news media were presenting. Eventually other news programs followed Olbermann's lead but never was the case presented as well or in such detail as it was in Olbermann's program. Keith Olbermann had become the mainstream voice of the Occupy Wall street movement. And for the short period that Occupy Wall Street became a mainstream movement, it was dangerous - dangerous to the bankers and the lobbyists who have been holding the reigns to our political system that have been passing laws leading to deregulation, an unrestrained derivitives market, and financial bankruptcy for the middle class .

Olbermann just got fired. Boy he really resonated with the liberal populace, since he was canned by the liberal populace.
