You are right. Times don't change. All the central issues that people in the Occupy Movement are on about. This movie was 35 years ago! The stuff is current right now!

The movie continues where you left off...

And this is what needs to happen.. its happening now but to many are afraid to raise their voice ... in time... and though the outlook looks bleaker each day, Time is what we have on our side

not a bad idea...

You need to include the dressing down Howard Beale got from his boss played by Ned Beatty too. That shows the real Wall Street mentality.

First, I advocated getting the money out of politics as in my October 2011 post at http://occupywallst.org/forum/we-the-people-in-order-to-a-proposal/ then spent a lot of time researching the legal issues surrounding money in politics to devise a reaonsable statgety for getting the money out. The results of my effort may be seen at http://occupywallst.org/forum/get-our-government-back-no-ammendment-or-article-v/ and the more detailed discussions linked at the bottom of that post.

Second, I identified a need for people to make effective use of their economic power in my early November 2011 post at http://occupywallst.org/forum/the-power-of-the-people/ . Next, I set up an external site to promote OWS consumer guidelines and provided helpful links at http://bit.ly/DoYourBit which has received several thousand hits and has been widely shared on Twitter and Face-Book. I further elaborated on one key aspect of employment amoung the 99% in my post at http://occupywallst.org/forum/the-rise-of-the-machines/ then integrated the entire economic power topic in my post at http://www.themultitude.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&p=4356#p4356 .

Third, and most importantly, I have spent literally hundreds of hours promoting the need to get the money out of politics, make better use of our economic power, and generally promoting the Occupy movement by writing my representatives, engaging in dialog with every single person I know, reaching out via Twitter and Facebook, and otherwise engaging in activism. I have had a good degree of success, even among the crowd of conservatives I normally associate with.

One of the rights an association of people inherits is the 14th amendment right to equal protection,

The 14th amendment clearly states person or persons:

  • persons born or naturalized

  • nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process . . .

  • counting the whole number of persons

  • No person shall be a Senator or Representative

The 14th amendment cannot be construed to imply any collective rights held by organizations, unless one wants to attempt to use the following from Section 1:

  • No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the priveileges or immunities of citizens of the United States;

You point out the possibility of a hostile Congress, and to address that possibility you advocate using identical language among 34 legislatures to call for a Constitutional convention.

If we can get 34 identical measures in individual states, we can get 38 identical measures in individual states.

I would suggest that if Congress is hostile to a call for Constitutional convention, then they may be just as hostile to attempting legislative reform of the campaign contribution process - especially since they have tried several times already, only to have the Supreme Court over rule the idea.

The fair and legal approach, in my opinion, is to ban all contributions from 'people' and use the people's money (taxes) to fund the people's political system. This does not require a constitutional amendment, it only requires action by Congress.

while the above approach might work, it leaves open the door to the possibility of endless wrangling between Congress and the Supreme Court with a net result of no implementation of change.

It is this last that gives me the greatest concern.

I thank you for putting yourself out there and trying to make a difference for not just yourself but for a population as well... we can each do something even if it is not as accomplished as you have presented.... change can only come when people are involved and finally take their head out of the sand. I commend your stated efforts

I disagree with the Im not going to ask you to protest part.. It's the only way to get anyones attention... we've become as a society a herd of cattle being lead around not questioning anything... like that herd we end up dying only ours is a slow death from inside ourselves

So this Aaron Russo just travels around renting halls and giving speeches? or does he charge people to get in to hear a message that OWS delivers at their own cost?? While he may agree that our country and way of life is in jepordy.... What sacrifice is he making out of his life to make a statement?? I have an even better suggestion Why doesn't Aaron join OWS instead

[-] 1 points by billyson (18) 12 years ago

based on his emotional statement- i would say Aaron is already a member of ows. If not please Aaron join us-

[-] 1 points by spyac3 (16) 12 years ago

Geez I forgot to make my biggest point, (getting too old) from what little I could watch, I see Aaron as a profiteer who is preying on the frustrations of the working class in this country. (can't believe I did that)
