Forum Post: I need a job

Posted 10 years ago on Feb. 17, 2014, 7:13 p.m. EST by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

As a matter of fact, you'd be surprised if you take a metropolitan, big city newspaper, the Sunday edition, where they run all the classified ads, even today with 10 million unemployed—there were 10 percent unemployed—even today you will find that those Sunday editions—the Washington paper, the New York papers, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles—you will find those papers will carry as many as 50 and 60 pages of help wanted ads. But when you read them, you realize that these are employers advertising for people, and the people that are presently unemployed do not have the skills and the training for those jobs. This is why what we're doing at the Federal level, one of our programs is aimed at retraining for people who are unemployed in these new lines of work. So, there'll be jobs for you.

Do we need an underground job forum tab on here - for individuals who think like we do and are willing to hire forward thinking Occupiers and revolutionaries? Something for the creative types too who have been left out in the cold in this economy...

People in small business are delusional. First, they say a couple years special training qualifies them or these jobs. Then, when asked what the jobs pay. They say they pay pretty good. In fact, they pay $10-11/hr. In 1980, it would be a a good job. Today, with all the inflation they've passed over to us, BTW, they call $10/hr good. Those are starter jobs at best. Might as well point out an ad that says we're looking for people who sell themselves short. What your talking about was on 60 minutes. It was insulting then. Now I'd punch the fucker for saying that. In tact, the guy with all the jobs was in NY where $10/hr gets you a pot to piss in. Those employers have STARTER jobs. They just don't want to train, and don't want to admit it. That's how you get wealthy. You make a sucker out of anyone else.

If you work in a company, from an organization of 5 people to one of thousands, YOU HAVE TO PLAY THE GAME. You will find yourself doing things that you may consider shameful. But, they aren't. They are because if you don't play, your finished. People used to talk of working your way up through the ranks waaayyy back. That doesn't happen anymore. It's the buddy system. You can be virtuous to your own undoing. You will out how evil people can be. There's a few good companies, still, maybe. Keeping aiming at one of the Fortune 500. One of them may eventually have something you like. You know in the 1st week or two, just how a company really is. What they tell you in interview is complete bullshit. If you work for someone else, those are the pitfalls. You may not be able to function. Then you must create your own job. It's take a lot of patience, humility and learning but, it can be done.

[-] 1 points by elf3 (4203) 10 years ago

hmm- this is where I am right now - co-ops and the like are going to have to be the way of the future ... I think we're too bright to live like the baby boomers did... we don't want to sacrifice our existence for a good pension or stuff - we want to keep our dignity and not be worked into oblivion - we want a balance between home and work... believe me I don't want to adopt my backstabbing co-workers as family though now I do spend more time with them than anyone else...it's depressing especially if you're honest and you don't like games... I don't want to prepare myself to go up against Kevin Spacey in House of Cards every day. Work that is meaningless turns you numb and bosses who love to subordinate you beyond what is needed to get the job done should be wrangled up and sent away to a Communist Regime where they would fit right in. We are all adults we don't need to be talked to like children, snapped at or manipulated. Honesty I'm ready to drop out of this 8-5 dreadmill ...please someone tell me how to get off the hamster wheel? I'm sure our generation is going to do things differently when we run the show - do we have to wait that long?

[-] 1 points by nazihunter (215) 10 years ago

No ONE individual can do it. There are countless people who would agree with you. They just need the courage to admit it. To the extent that they don't, the mistakes of the past will compound it, (aka, the boomers). What's worse is any counter-culture of the past that wanted it different have all rolled up and played ball, (Bob Dylan commercial, Superbowl). Very disappointing. Once you're 'suaded and jaded, you're useless. Just keep the diversions going in the meantime or you'll go crazy Also, you can pray a meteor will hit the next Bilderburg meeting. Hah! Peace out!

[-] 2 points by elf3 (4203) 10 years ago

Yes the banks and Bilderburg are running the show I agree - the question is what can we do here now to create our own self-reliance and subvert the system ... how can we get back to community and helping to sustain one another? People on this site all agree on this issue - we're being controlled by those with more power - getting away from that is operating out of their reach ... how do we do that? Crowd-funding... getting off the lending and renting mentality - creating our own self-sustained communities where monopolies aren't allowed to play ball. Boycotting - crowd-funding and nourishing one another. It can be done but we also have to fight to put the reigns back on multi-national monopolies and corporate culture. By their nature corporations are sociopathic - do we really want to live in a system ruled by and where we are reliant on sociopaths? I think we need to focus on creating jobs for one another - living off the grid so to speak - a community of individuals who refuse to play with corporate America and where we are forced to we fight to break their influence and hold. What can we do to make this happen? Communities built for us by us - antiPottersville a Bedford Falls of our own.

[-] 1 points by JGriff99mph (507) 10 years ago

".. how can we get back to community and helping to sustain one another? "

It all starts local, and the only thing you can really do is try to make sure you are doing your part to the best of your ability and still managing to take care of your family and self.

Alinsky broke it up into three parts: The haves, the have nots, and the have a little and dont want to lose what we managed to gets.

The haves have all the political power, every last ounce of it. The entire government structure we have here is nothing more than a corporate fiction.

The have nots are always there to get involved, but there isnt anything that is appealing to them right now.

If its not appealing to the have nots, its sure not going to appeal to the middle class, because they have something to lose if it doesnt work out.

So I guess first and foremost is what would the have nots really respond to? What is a plan of action that would spur excitement and expansion?

The only way to figure that out is to look at it through that side.

[-] 0 points by nazihunter (215) 10 years ago

I really don't know what the answer is. I mean, your ideas are good but they require consensus and the will. Take all the complainers on this forum and see if there's anything any of them can agree on I think landing someone on Pluto will happen first. You see, your idea would require some to give up something. That's when you separate the boys from the men, the girls from the women. In other words, that answer is very difficult. It would be the great subject for a book though!
