Forum Post: I love when people toss articles at everyone about the "Scum" in the Occupy camps

...as if this is going to turn myself or most Occupiers away. It may be fodder for those that already hate Occupy, but to expect anyone else to be shocked that a movement born of inequity has attracted the downtrodden is beyond absurd. If you want, I can show you the other side of that coin. I have reshaped the home page of my website to reflect my increasing participation and anticipation. Have a looksies http://richardkentgates.com

It has a very negative effect on it. The last thing "they" want is a movement that doesnt just get those that are politically active Democrats, but the indies and the biggest voting bloc- those that dont vote because they only see criminals.

I think it actually helps the cause because it exposes the fear and bullying clearly enough to get fence sitters standing up.

Its the exact opposite. Since the media stated doing that, around end of Oct, the numbers are down. This was a bipartisan, screw em all thing at the beginning. They accomplished what they set out to do. The numbers are down. The conception by those who have never attended has been made.

I warned everyone at Occupy Tampa that the biggest threat to growth was the media, and to fight it you must at declare what you are not. No one really paid attention, now the majority of the country could care less.

The numbers are down according to who? The site I operate is filled with contributions from Occupy supporters/protesters and that is simply not the case. This is the most active I have seen it yet. Adding to that, it is the aforementioned reason I chose to support Occupy and relinquish neutrality.

Im not talking about your website. Go to a camp. Ask them about before and now. There you will find your answer.

Have you been to Occupy Miami? If not, go and see how many were involved in Sept/Oct, and then ask them about growth and participation.

Ah, I see. So if Occupy isn't camping or doing what you're used to seeing, it must not be happening. Your reach to imply I was saying my site represents the activity of the movement is also a stretch, you know damn well I used it a a reference for information, obviously something you turn away from.

"The numbers are down according to who? The site I operate is filled with contributions from Occupy supporters/protesters and that is simply not the case".... "Your reach to imply I was saying my site represents the activity of the movement is also a stretch". ....

Rally attendance, and activity in the streets, is how you measure "movements"....chatting on the internet is a social event.

Im going off the people involved. Im not trying to hate. Actaully, Im quite discouraged by it.

Ok. Again, you said the exact same thing except prefaced it with my previous reply. Good job. The information is there if you are interested in actual information. I'm not going to entertain tunnel vision talking points.

PS, "going off people involved" exactly.

Who said tunnel vision? You are saying that the media's piss poor portrayal has helped.

Im saying numbers are down.

The numbers dont lie.

Where is the confusion?

Are you talking about the Miami New Times article about Occupy Miami?

If so, then why didn't you post it?

http://www.miaminewtimes.com/2012-03-22/news/occupy-miami-descends-into-drugs-and-chaos-in-an-overtown-apartment-building/

"It's like we live in a huge crack house now!" Odho says. She points a long manicured fingernail at brown smears on her apartment complex's yellow paint. "They poop on the walls," she says, stifling a gag as she steps over stinking piles on the pavement. "They poop in the back of the building and wipe themselves with socks... Who are these people? We don't know who the hell they are."

Welcome to phase two of Occupy Miami. Protesters call it "Peace City." Locals call it a living hell.
