Has OWS created the "Occupy Party" and are now supporting Candidates or is this a bogus group? If this Has Been created by OWS I think this is a Terrible Idea! We should be working on Issues Not endorsing Politicians, who we all know will say Anything to get elected! It is my understanding they the Occupy Party has endorsed a Politician here in Michigan. I have to tell you that if this Is the case, you couldn't have picked a worse candidate to endorse. If this is what will be coming out of the Occupy Party, I just can't stand behind this group. I think if you are going to endorse politicians in other states maybe you should contact the Local Occupy before making that kind of Decision. I and others in Our Occupy are Not happy that he is now being associated with Us Here. Now we have to send out a press release to let the people in Our State know that We Do Not support this candidate!

An Occupy Party???? I thought this was something that the OWS was completely against. In fact at the GA on 3 Jan they wouldn't even pass a proposal to support or endorse the Occupy Congress that is scheduled for 17 Jan.

What the heck is the Occupy Party???

I think starting a party from scratch is counter productive. The green party is the way to go.

Here's a page with their platform

http://www.gp.org/committees/platform/2010/index.php

Take into account that green jobs are the wave of the future. ;)

The only way green jobs will be the wave of the future is if we can produce the things needed cheaper than China does. The Chevy Volt is a miserable failure and the only people that can afford to live "green" are those who are making an income a whole lot more than most Americans.

"the only people that can afford to live "green" are those who are making an income a whole lot more than most Americans."

That will change if it catches on. Most technology starts out expensive. Also there is a growing demand for things such as organic farming and solar panels (inb4 solyndra)

I found absolutely nothing on this in several searches. Either post a link to the information or name the candidate, there is no reason to play coy if he has made a public statement and Occupy cities in Michigan are sending out press releases to refute this.

Well first I guess I have to say I don't think it's a good idea to name names. He is advertising that he is one of the "first to be endorsed by the Occupy Party" You can google it. @ ARod1993: This person has requested on a few occasions that we "endorse" him. The fact that we Have Refused each time should give you a clue. The idea that the Occupy Party can, and apparently Has, endorsed a candidate without contacting Local Occupy's in that State to get their opinion is just Wrong on so many level's! The First thing that should have been Done is to contact local Occupy's!! So this has been done without Consensus. I don't think Any of us would have expected that from OWS!

[-] 1 points by ronimacarroni (1089) 12 years ago

The problem is that the concensus requires a 90% majority and there are a few people who refuse to get involved in politics out of principle, which I think affects those who do see how politics can help enact real change.

I've also heard that the green party has shown support and stands for all the things we stand for. It could be our way of reforming the democratic party like the tea party reformed the republican party.

First of all, who is the candidate in question and why are you so up in arms about it? I'm not asking to condemn you, but I can't legitimately complain about the decision of the Occupy Party until I know more about what actually happened. Second of all, dealing with local Occupy movements is a start, and I would assume that it would be very wise for any Occupy Party to run its candidates by all occupiers in a given jurisdiction (city, state, congressional district, whatever corresponds best to the scope of the position for which the candidate is running) with the understanding that should a candidate receive the support of 51% or more of participating occupiers then the entire occupation in question is to put its full weight behind that candidate, no second-guessing allowed.

I think its great idea and hope it catches on.
